@HeyscottieHey3 жыл бұрын
I'm currently using the r6 with an Ninja v, and my advice for cages is to opt for the smallrig cage. The single biggest reason is for cable support. The r6 doesn't have a cable protector like the r5 does (a plastic cable clip that screws into the side of the camera body), and with the unreliability of the micro HDMI, having any kind of extra security to that port is important, especially if your recording externally. Smallrig has a cable mount specifically for the r5/r6 cage (SmallRig HDMI and USB-C Cable Clamp for EOS R5 and R6 Cage 2981). As far as I am aware 8sinn doesn't make anything like this so I highly recommended the smallrig over it.

Hey Scottie, Im using the R6 with the ninja V as well and no matter what i do (when recording indoors 22c, both internal and external recording) the camera overheats in 4K 60 after 22min consistently. Do you have the same issue?

With R5 I agree with you not using an external recorder- but the big difference with the R6 is that if you have a monitor plugged in, you cannot record internally anymore . Meaning when using an R6, if you want to use a monitor it needs to be able to record externally (ninja)
@Mufasa_Shabazz2 жыл бұрын
Really? I was going to buy the 5.2 shinobi $300, so when I connect it I won’t be able to record internally? Is that what you mean?
@sebvontas94462 жыл бұрын
@@Mufasa_Shabazz you will be able to use the setting where it mirrors your camera’s screen to the shinobi, and your camera screen will go black. The shinobi will only be able to have dirty-feed with all the canon UI items and widgets . If you try use the camera as usual with the touchscreen as well as a clean feed to the external monitor - that will disable your ability to hit record

Cool Vid! Our R6 is rigged with a Smallrig cage, top handle, baseplate, carbon rails and the mini matte box. Looks epic and works really well for us. One thing we're looking into is the external recorder or external monitor. We have a rigged EOS R too with an external monitor. Do you use the Freeworld LUT6 with the R6? The reason I ask is when we plug in the external monitor that we use on the EOS R to our R6, the R6 turns off the screen on the back of the camera and the camera says it can only record externally with an external monitor attached....which isn't helpful. Seems the Canon cripple hammer hit the R6. For that reason I want a Ninja V as I could do with an external monitor and it seems the only way to have one on the R6 is to use an external recorder.... unless you have another way around it. Cheers, J

Good review. My SmallRig setup is almost like yours. The difference is my handle uses 1/4 screws to attach to the R6 cage. Totally agree with you about being able to slide the handle to improve handling and weight distribution during use. Also, I use the Blackmagic 7” Video Assist 12G for my external monitor and recorder (also use its SmallRig monitor cage). The monitor suits the R6 video capabilities and records at ProRes 4K 60fps. The R5’s higher video modes are not supported. Both cages have the HDMI protectors. On the R6, it can make access to the flaps a little harder.

@@damiencooper Just got the NATO handle (1955) based on your review. Thanks for the tip. For anyone thinking of getting a SmallRig mount for the Samsung T5, make sure you get the 2245B as it uses 1/4" screws rather than M4 screws (which the previous version uses). It allows the 2245B to be attached to the SmallRig 2792 cage (rather than the handle) for the Blackmagic Design Assist 12G 7" cage.

Thanks for making this thorough video. I have a Lilliput A5 monitor and a micro HDMI cable from my other camera and I decided to try it on my R6...but am having a strange problem. The monitor in live view displays everything in photo modes and can shoot video in auto mode but when I turn the dial to movie the monitor only displays the settings (Like aperture and iso etc) but the screen is black...no live view. When I press record the movie records but the screen remains black. I cannot find any info about this in the R6 manual and have tried every setting combination. Not sure what is wrong. There are no special settings on the monitor menu itself...but monitor works fine in auto mode and on every other camera so must be the Canon R6. Are there any special settings for using a monitor just for live view?
@aaronw85253 жыл бұрын
Probably the Lilliput A5 as it is an 8 bit monitor...when the R6 is in 8 bit film mode the live view works. But I really don't get why since the Lilliput works on both my Bmpcc and Bmpcc4 fine and they output hdmi at 10 bit.

I came from a 5DMII and there is a learning curve regarding what type of focus setting to use. Still finding out what is appropriate to use. So far, two options stand out , "Tracking (face/animal) and Expand AF Area". I am not totally comfortable with both so I am learning to manually focus. especially as I use EF L lens that internal and external microphones pick up focusing noise during auto focus. However, the R6 is very good at focusing and tracking automatically. It is important to know what the equipment does.
