Thanks for the review. It's my favorite rain jacket. The only thing is that I have not alpine but normal version as I don't want a helmet compatible hood.

Hi Chris! first of all thank you for all your videos which are very useful and very pleasant to watch. Besides, I was wondering which in your opinion is the most breathable and windproof softshell between the Arcteryx Gamma Lt and the Rab Kinetic 2.0. To be honnest, after watching several tests of this Rab softshell, I understand that it is very breathable, windproof, very light and a little waterproof. So I wonder what its faults are compared to a jacket like the gamma Lt which is heavier and provides the same advantages without the waterproofing…

I wouldn't say the Rab has faults, it is just a different type of jacket from the Beta's. The kinetic is a softshell, the beta is a hardshell. The beta is going to be a bit more durable, windproof, and waterproof. The kinetic is more flexible, a bit more breathable and plenty windproof and waterproof as well. The rab is also "quieter" as it is a softer stretchy material. I think that if your main goal is durability, with wind and rain protection, then the beta is great. If flexibility and breathability are your priorities, than the kinetic will be great.

Euh.. actually I was talking about the difference between the RAB kinetic 2.0 and the arcteryx GAMMA LT and no between the RAB kinetic and the arc'teryx BETA

Sorry, Your right, you did ask about the gamma.... I don't know why I was thinking that you asked about the Beta LT. Probably just got confused with another viewer comment. Anyway, The Kinetic seems to me to be more waterproof and windproof than the gamma LT. The gamma is a great jacket, I would say it's a bit more durable, maybe better for rock or ice climbing. It can repel water fairly well, but that is only due to its DWR coating. It can help block some wind too, but it's not totally windproof. The Kinetic Alpine 2.0 is just more like a hardshell that is softer and more flexible, as I said in my last response. 🙂@@ambMoreau-fx8he

They are both pretty breathable, I would think that the gamma would be a bit more breathable than the kinetic, as it has a different fabric. The kinetic is however is one of the most breathable rain and windproof jackets out there

Any chance you can compare the Rab Kinetic 2.0 with the Arcteryx Kadin and Solano? I’m looking for something to block wind over a thin long sleeve shirt or fleece in cool weather. I know the Kinetic 2.0 material is advertised as waterproof, but how does it compare to the Arcteryx softshells? I’m assuming all of them are great at blocking wind. Which is warmer? Heavier? Noisier? More comfortable to wear over a thin fleece or Atom LT in dry weather?

I would say that the Rab Kinetic Alpine 2.0 is the heaviest and most rainproof and durable of the three. The Kadin and Solano are both made with a GoreTex Infinium a nice windproof material, but not as waterproof as a normal GoreTex membrane. I see the Kadin as more of a shell, while the Solano is more of a stand alone jacket, due to it's soft, thin, fleece lining inside. That's not to say that you can't layer under the Solano, you certainly can, but it's just better stand alone if you would like that. Therefore, I would say that the Solano is the "warmest" as it is the only one here with a light fleece lining. It is still a lightweight jacket though. But they are all good with a nice layer under them. My pick is the Rab, I just really like that piece. I guess that it just depends on what you want to do with it. The Rab is like a hardshell that is soft and flexible, but it is a bit heavier than the other two. I hope that helps you out.🙂
