The Race for Africa’s Tallest Building is On
Hello Displorers, Welcome back to another exciting video presented to you by Displore and thanks for watching. South Africa has always held the title for the African country with the tallest buildings and highest number of Skycrappers but all that is about to change because More and more African countries are beginning to catch up with the rest of the world when it comes to occupying skylines with exortic skycrappers. In 1974 the Carlton centre located in Downtown Johannesburg became the tallest building in Africa measuring 223 meters and 55 floors, it was designed American Architectural firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. The carlton centre held the record for the tallest building in Africa for 45 years and eventually lost the title in 2019 when the Leonardo was Completed.
Now, The Leonardo is a 55 floor mixed-use property development in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa that stands at a height of 234m , 11 metres taller than the previous tallest building in Africa. The construction o the building started in 2015 and was completed in 2019. The Building which was designed and Constructed by Co’ Arc International Architect cost 2 billion rand to construct.
Unfortunately, the Leonado might be losing that title very soon because three African Countries, Kenya, Morocco and Egypt are currently constructing what will be Africa’s Tallest skycrappers in the months ahead.

Egypt, Morocco and Kenya are currently on the race of constructing Africa’s tallest buildings.
Lets begin with Morocco
The Mohammed the 6th Tower - 250m, 55 Floors
Originally intented to be called the “Bank of Africa Tower”, the Mohammed the 6th Tower currently under construction in saleh in Morocco is a 250-metres and 55 Floors Tower designed and being built by BESIX, SIXCO, and TGCC. The building will be visible from a distance of 50 kilometres all round. With a total area of 102,800 m², the building consists of a tower set on a podium, to resemble a rocket on its launch pad. Inside, the 55 storeys contain a luxury hotel, offices, high-end apartments and even a viewing terrace at the top, all accessible via a total of 40 lifts, 23 in the tower and 17 in the podium. The Project which is expected to be completed by 2022 will cost a whooping 4 Billion Moroccan Dirhram which is approximately 415 US dollars.
The structure will be able withstand not only the usual elements, such as strong winds or seismic events, but also flooding from the neighbouring Bouregreg river. The tower is braced 70% by its concrete core and 30% by the structure of the steel porticos on its façade. In view of the apartments at the top of the tower, a tuned mass damper system to reduce oscillations will be installed in the last few storeys. The Mohammed VI Tower will form the high point in the Bouregreg Valley Development Project, which in turn is a leading part of the programme for Rabat, the City of Light, the Moroccan Capital of Culture. This comprises major structural urban initiatives, including the Grand Théâtre de Rabat and the House of Arts and Culture.
The tower’s south façade will be fully equipped with photovoltaic panels, while rainwater recovery and waste water recycling systems are incorporated in the building’s design. The hot water also comes from an internal energy recovery system. The building is designed to be certified LEED Gold and HQE, complying with the highest international environmental quality standards.
From to the Beautiful East African country of Kenya, we have
The Pinnacle Towers - 300m, 70 floors
Currently Under construction in Kenya’s capita city Nairobi is a 300m Pinnacle tower which will consist of 70 floors. The development consists of two adjacent towers. The shorter tower, at 46 floors will house the 257-room, five-star Upper Hill Hilton Hotel, the third Hilton franchise in Nairobi and the 50th on the African continent. The taller tower, with 70 floors, will feature eleven floors of commercial office space, nine floors of upscale rental retail space, and 46 floors with 210 upscale 1, 2 and 3-bedroom, serviced residential apartments. Other amenities include conference facilities, a gymnasium, luxury spa and an infinity pool. The Project is a joint venture by Hass Petroleum an East African petroleum products distributor and the White Lotus Group, a Dubai-based investment firm. China state construction Engineering corporation is incharge of this project which will cause about 200 million Dollars. The project wa originally scheduled to be Completed in 2020 But due to land dispute, It has been shifted to 2023.

What Makes South Africa outstanding is that: 1- Most of our skyscrapers are built and designed by South African construction companies n engineers (Not China) 2- Most of our Construction projects are completed on time (usually in 3 to 4 years Time)
