Moving properly is one of the hardest things in this game. Theres no guide on it because its too dynamic and variable. To try and give you some direction, start by exaggerating your movement. Rotate left and right a lot harder during your fights. If you're in a 2v1, rotate in a way that keeps the second guy behind the first, so the second guy can't hit you because his teammate is in the way. If he manages to catch up, swap and do the same thing but to the other person. Target swapping is a very powerful thing to do. This is one of the hardest skills to learn, so don't be discouraged if you don't get it very quickly. You're seeing about 9000+ hours of melee genre experience from me.

This just comes from experience. When you're comfortable with the game and the weapon, you stop paying attention to yourself and only pay attention to the enemy. When I'm playing, I never think about what I'm going to do, I just do it. This is why you need a lot of experience, you hammer this stuff into your brain until it sticks. I know how fast every weapon is, how long it is, where they can reach me from, everything.

I just realized, a way to maybe make defense a little more palatable would be to improve the AI of the Levy Peasants, maybe if they tempered the AI so they’re more of a threat it could kinda offset the one sided-ness of being offense vs defense without completely changing the game mode

Shields break and don't need to be used all the time. They give a huge stamina bonus when used, but they have low durability, break and when they break, they stun you.

Be aggressive and keep it simple, or use your superior range and bait an approach. It'll be hard no matter how you spin it.

1year late but you can use the shield for emergency situations and use it as a shield from arrows if you turn around to an archer(the 2nd situation is rare)

It breaks after 300 damage (200 for small, 400 for large). When it breaks, you get stunned and the enemy can hit you. It can be wasteful to use it when not needed.

Shield is as useful as it is a liability. It has limited durability and you get stunned when it breaks and when it breaks, you also dont have it to block projectiles if you need to.
