Insightful video. I wouldn't say they used him wrong. It has more to do with an unexpected fall off from Marcus Williams. Williams during his first 2 seasons in Baltimore was quite good. Last year, he had one arm and was effective. This year not so much. Hamilton was expected to be a chess piece again but his role needed to change as you said to stabilize the defense. Hamilton's versatility will land him a MAJOR payday soon.

Not sure if he was being used wrong. He was playing really well. They expected other players, namely Marcus Williams, to get back to the form that they paid him nearly $70 million for. He had played decently last time he was healthy. Add on Eddie Jackson playing awful, and that’s why the change had to be made. Less about Kyle being used wrong. More about the failure of those others guys to step up and look like starting NFL safeties

He inherited most of Mike McDonald’s schemes. Which had Kyle Hamilton as the wild card that we moved all over the field. He wasn’t overthinking. We had a historically great defense last year and returned almost everyone. Marcus Williams and Eddie Jackson were garbage. Williams was the worst rated safety in the league before he got benched. Glad we adjusted, and AD been balling.

Probably goes to show how important the safety play/depth chart was for the Ravens. Especially with how MacDonald used those guys with how he would flip coverage after the snap while keeping key guys on coverage like Roquan/Hamilton in position and watching the QB (led the league in pre to post snap coverage looks). Zach certainly couldn't run the same thing with the issues/injuries in the secondary and simplified things to make the secondary play more consistent while being able to play down hill.

They weren’t using him wrong, they just needed him to fill in for a complete liability. Kyle Hamilton might be the greatest nickel corner of all time, he is ridiculous there, he doesn’t just blank in coverage but he makes plays on the ball and in the pass rush constantly from the slot. He’s solidified the defense at FS but he is not impacting games as much as he would from nickel with a quality FS back there

This is so helpful. I really don't like our chances tonight, but it will be fun to watch how the Ravens use Hamilton and how the Steelers plan to attack that phenomenal defense.

Part of that was also rotating LBs to match with Smith Simpson was getting beat alot undermeath but Board has shored up the 3rd down coverage underneath

It was a bit more than moving Kyle Hamilton. Sure that was a part of it but really the change to Ardarius Washington, along with inside linebacker change from Simpson to a combination of Board/Harrison really freed up Roquan Smith. I also thin Orr has grown as a coordinator and using more white on the outside and Marlo in the slot. All things that helped the defense really sure week 11 and on.

I get it's just a title. But Hamilton is so much better close to the l.o.s.. The Ravens just didn't have a playable Safety. I think ArDarius Washington has played well also now that Williams and Jackson are gone. Nate Wiggins play has allowed us to move Marlon to Nickel. Trenton Simpson got benched because tho he's athletic he was a wild man out there in the bad way. The defense got simplified and the communication is improved. Not sure why Hamilton is getting all the credit but who cares. There's no doubt the defense is playing much better. But the Ravens haven't played a good offense since the Bye either. I don't think they're a great defense. But they don't have to be. It just can't be a disaster

Despite the title, Kyle Hamilton wasn’t being used incorrectly. He was doing amazing. It’s the other safeties playing so damn poorly that prompted this move. It hurts his stats to have to play like this, but the overall defense is more more cohesive. Roquan Smith elaborated that before he was moved back there, the communication amongst the DBs wasn’t good. That’s an indictment on Marcus Williams. He’s paid nearly $70 million to be that guy

Macdonald is now the Seahawks coach. Monken will probably be a head coach for another team soon. Not to mention all the position coaches that left to get promotions elsewhere. All the players in the that locker room love Harbaugh.Overall he and the ravens have been very successful. Sure he has bad challenges and makes mistakes, but every coach has their downsides. Coaching is more than just what you see on game day. By all accounts, Harbaugh is amazing. Also where Hamilton was playing could have been Zach Orr. We don't know how those decisions were made.

3:15 is way more the corners fault than the safeties. It’s very hard to split the difference between #1 and #2 when they are on different levels like this, which is why teams run this concept. 9/10 if a post route crosses the safeties face he has to run with or it’s open right now. Also in any zone defense the flat player runs with the wheel route, this is a well known rule. Also he was covering grass, there was no one in the flat for him to cover until the very last second so there was no reason for him to not sink underneath the wheel

No, they wasn't if he would have only played free safety he wouldn't be a 2-time All Pro in 3 yrs. That is all in his bag of what he truly can do, as he can do it all. Some of the scheme was changed but I wanted but safeties being able to play man, in the box, slot or safety and that is what Kyle and AD could do that has unlocked the defense like I told them it would. Then I also knew the guys were not communicating on the backend and one misread, you can make the whole team look bad, so it was simplified, use Kyle as a communicator with RO and it worked beautifully, RO had to much on his plate and it slowed him down too.
