It's even more surprising given people claim AOT is so bad and she loves it. Even her other tubers didnt like it at first and she loves it. Though i'll say she's better at acclimating to anime. People who resist it think American live action subtle emotions = best but sometimes AOT works. Also AOT later on is westernized for better or worst acting wise. Also happy she likes a season people hated, which is now reloved on hindsight. Sad the author had to truncate it just to appease fans as they hated this and it was all story and they called it filler.

Fun(?) fact, if you don't find out already: the couple with hot air balloon that got shot by MPs were Armin's parents. It got confirmed either in volume extras or in the artbook, with their designs being shown. Armin looks exactly like his mom, but with his dad's round eyes

@@danielcastaneda4975 I think this is the issue with AOT, it's not written to have a good and bad objective or subjective slide towards objective. It's the power levels of storytelling. Sure some points are clear but your not supposed to come out saying this was the good guy and bad guy. It's why i think people didnt get the ending (besides a few over stated and under stated pacing issues and well lets face it people are human and it was his first story good or great for that matter) People wanted something they were never gonna get. He developed a story about something humanity today still hasnt fixed. Even if every single ill willed person passed away in an instant someone would grow thinking they are better than someone else by nature and grow that hate. How do people think clicks and groups evolve in highschool a microcosm of life. We never leave highschool...but we can momentarily improve it. Violence, hate, etc. all fixed by love for each other. Something humans have trouble completely doing. The show explains some of this but it's obvious yet people miss it, since hey alot of viewers no offense are stuck in the forest of hatred

@@TheAngryMontagecould you expand on that? I get the argument that rod believed the royal family holding the founding titan was for the best, but it really doesn't seem like he ever learned any of the secrets the inheritors of the titan learned, based on his flashback where him and his brother tell uri to get rid of the titans. Also if this truly was his conviction, rod could've inherited the titan himself rather than forcing historia to bare the burden
@nathannava9699
@nathannava9699 4 ай бұрын
@@silverknight6262 The way I take it is that he saw his close family members(who all also wanted to wipe out the titans) inherit the First King's Will and the memories of the world, to then decide to keep the cycle going despite being so empathetic and down to earth. After following his brother and Frieda, seeing their omnipotent power and goodwill he starts to worship them and become religiously devout, and believes that they know what's best for humanity even if he doesn't understand or know what the memories contain. He doesn't want to inherit the Titan himself because he sees it as his duty as a follower to bring back God to guide him and humanity as a whole, rather than becoming God himself.
@silverknight6262
@silverknight6262 4 ай бұрын
@@nathannava9699 that's interesting, I agree with your first point but have never considered your second. I interpret rods actions as more selfish since he never had any concern for historia until his whole family was dead and he had no one else to inherit the FT. It's hard to talk about without spoiling s3 p2, but I think the true reason he didn't eat eren himself was partially because he didn't want to lose his free will to the first king, but mostly because of other potential drawbacks associated with it (if you know what I mean lol)

@acendiatmedia8747
@acendiatmedia8747 4 ай бұрын
I never see his personal life defended but it's valid to ask if he was trying to do good and if what he was doing would have had a better outcome. Clearly he cared more about getting the founding titan back more than he was a coward. He took the syrum after all and he wasn't wrong that he shouldn't become a Titan and it's unlikely he got that idea himself. It seams like he was passed over to take the titan. Seams weird that his father and brother where just fine with him dodging it. Many of the questions about Rods motives are directly from Kenny who doesn't really have allot of credibility or reason to know. Remember the end and ask yourself what happens with Historia as founder? No one in this story is a good person and Rods failings aren't all that egregious. Just because he in opposition to the protagonists isn't a very good reason to hate him in this story.
@ramzes2624
@ramzes2624 4 ай бұрын
@@acendiatmedia8747 I don't have strong feelings towards Rod personally. But he did run away while his family was killed, and he only ended up as a messed up Pure Titan because the way he ingested the serum, there's no reason to believe he was privy to any special information or that he was special and that's why he turned up as a messed up Pure Titan. So it seems to me he rationalized that he should not be the one to become the Founding Titan because he was the one overseeing the transition from host to host. But I think he only took this role because he was scared of becoming the host himself. I don't think he was malevolent and I think he cared about humanity, but I do think he is supposed to have cowardliness as a core character flaw.

There's a theory that says Rod turn into this hideous titan because of the way he licked the serum instead of injecting it, which can be related to Kenny's line - "If I don't do it right I'll probably turn out all messed up like him" but he might be referring to something deeper than that..🤷‍♂ Loving the vlogs keep em coming!

It is on purpose. Idk where its at in the manga, but in season1. Grisha says to Eren (in a flashback to that forest scene) "You must learn to master this power!" As he injects him and allows Eren to eat him to gain the "Coordinate". Thats not a spoiler, since its in season 1 and elaborated on here. Also I really wonder why no one seems to realise that Grisha is simply lying that "He doesnt remember" lol. Or even consider that possibility. He simply doesnt want to talk about who he is or where hes from. So the "i dont remember" is just an easy answer to tell people with prying questions.

Oh I love Freida too, she is the one who sings the first AOT ending. Her voice is angelic and powerful. And when people say we like Rod Reiss, I don't mean we like the current Rod Reiss but the road that led him to become what he is now. When he was young he and his younger brother Uri begged their father to kill the titans and free humanity but he refused them. Then Uri told Rod to count on him before taking the Founding Titan but he still broke his promise. THEN Freida promised him that she won't fall into the family curse but she also failed. Everything that happened in his life broke Rod completely he reached a point he gave up and accepted that whatever the king will is right and he was wrong to doubt him.
@alexinator-hh5fe

I absolutely loved that even though she isn't in this arc, Ymir's words are what gave Historia the will to rebel. She's always been forced into roles. Frieda loved her but she pushed her to become more proper and polite(Frieda became super aggressive and upset when Historia tried exploring outside the fence, which is definitely an allegory for not leaving the walls as people exploring and getting too close to the truth is seemingly what the first king doesn’t want), Rod forced her to become Krista, her mother rejected her existence. All the people who should've had her back either used her, didn't care for her, tried influencing her, or all of the above. But Ymir was one of the few people who gave Historia a choice. Who allowed her to be herself and genuinely made her happy. Ymir being so important to Historia is why I didn't like that the anime cut out Historia's breakdown after she was taken. As for Rod, he's definitely interesting to me. He's absolutely manipulative. But I really like the flashback Historia sees about Rod after dealing the final blow because that small moment adds a lot to his character. In the flashback we see that Rod was a lot like Eren as a kid. He was ambitious, and genuinely wanted humanity to be free from the titans. But despite his years of begging his father, nothing changed. Then when his brother Uri gained the power, he was convinced that he could do it, but that didn't work out either. And even Frieda, who genuinely looked like she wanted to fix things changed once she obtained the power. And Rod seemed to slowly admit defeat and just accept that that's how things were meant to be. He began to lose hope. Until he became a broken shell of who he once was. I do think a small part of him was hoping that Historia would be the one to help fix things, but he definitely was only telling her information that would be beneficial for himself. After so many years of people becoming like the First King, he accepted that even with all the power in the world, the Royal family was still bound by chains to a will they couldn't resist. And if that will thought it knew best for humanity, he would be there to aid them.

Personally, I really enjoy the rambling and more spontaneous, less refined expression. There is a lot of AOT content on KZbin, including some great video essays, but sometimes a more speculative initial afterthought, that rambles is more fun. I think it shows earnest and excited enthusiasm. I may be biased though too since I can ramble with some of my favourite fiction. Plus we have the other general overview videos too!! As far as Rod Reiss... I am going to address them in a round about way. So Attack on Titan for myself, I was a bit of a late comer as well, I started watching and reading around 2018. Incidentally it was around when S3 first aired. So I got to binge watch the first 3 seasons. I was intrigued and hooked on the premise of Attack on Titan, and its setting, and world state, and animation, sound track, so on, but a part of me, was also a bit skeptical... The show keep pulling me in though, since i generally like strong characters and character dynamics, and each season built up more of that, especially S2 and S3... I also think, and often overlapping with that, but not always, are interesting ethical and moral dilemmas, and situations. You can do great character work and character dynamics with such scenarios and dilemmas. Like in S1, I understand why a character like Jean exists... Many stories have that sort of jerk rival to the protagonist, who gives them some small side conflict, but eh... Like we are usually suppose to dislike them a little, and root for the protagonist, in this case Eren... Season 3, however has let characters develop to the point, that Jean is now one of my favourite characters, and I fine them really interesting. Moments where Jean, Armin are in conflict with the Military Police... and a member who themselves, hesitated when firing, which gave Armin the chance to take them out, and Levi talks to them... So S2, and S3 really started to impress me (I also thought S1 was very impressive, just for different reasons). The world and setting just felt like it was getting more complex, intense, nuanced and introspective too. Was surprised how much I started to like characters like Historia. Hange I believe was my favourite overall character at the time, Ymir was up there. Jean, and Levi and Erwin were fast rising in my eyes. Armin and Mikasa were my favs from S1 and remained as such (though I sort of wish Mikasa had more going on). Okay so Rod Reiss, well, sometimes with AOT, I personally find it easier to talk about certain ideas, by talking about how certain other variables can compare. Like say Kenny. Both of them were set as antagonists, but not necessarily one dimensionally evil villains. I do think that Rod Reiss, has some admirable qualities, in moments. Also like, Kenny kills way more people in person, by hand, and I am not really a fan of just "mindless killing", but to me, Kenny also seemd much more honest and aware about his moral failings and character flaws. Reiss to me, was more hypocritical, uses other people to do dirty work, and sometimes seemed sanctimonious. Now and then he would show some self awareness, but regardless was an upholder of the status quo, and he had a cushy life, and often showed a lack of appropriate empathy, or concern. Its a rather low standard to set, to have his character have moments where they were vaguely worried about "humanity", partially truthful, and so on. Like he did some very messed up and abusive things. Again, so did Kenny, but at least Kenny owned up more directly about being that way. How Rod Reiss talks about Historia, is a pretty good indicator... Especially when you again contrast it with Kenny and Levi, and Kenny isn't going to win awards either, but its kind of funny, that Kenny's twisted ideas seem healthier... Also don't get me wrong, I think Rod Reiss is a fascinating character that is great for the story, but I am surprised that some people will defend him. He isn't cartoonishly evil, sure, but I think he is framed to be on the unlikable side, as well as a clear antagonist. That he has some average or more genuinely broad good notions or desires, or generally honourable moments or motives, at times, isn't necessarily a sign that that character is misunderstood by others, rather that can be why some may be harsher on them in context with their more selfish, or greedy or just lack of's, like lack pf empathy, lack of consideration, lack of honesty, lack of transparency, lack of humanity, ironically... That will have people be more discerning and negative in their assessment of them, morality and ethics wise. To be clear though, I think there are a handful of AOT characters I think are more ethically twisted/challenged and "worse" morally speaking. Great video, really looking forward to the S2 part 2 breakdown. (Oh, and random, but i really liked Frieda, wished we got more of her, somehow.)

Merphy, the 2 hot air ballooners that were killed were actually Armin’s parents. This doesn’t spoil anything so it’s safe to know. Can’t wait to see your reaction☺️👍

There is no dimensions where Frieda communicate with Eren and Historia. They both had flashbacks of past memories that they forgot, especially Historia. When Frieda met with Historia, it was real, it was not a dream. She just made Historia forget. But touching Eren activatd the Founding titan and its memories. They all accessed the memories of past Founding titans, meaning memories from Frieda, Grisha and Eren....

Enjoying the vlog/video combos. This might be too much work to being asking for, but I wish you'd re-watch your blog clips or take notes on them before shooting the next one. You made a comment about the info dump being hard to follow in the manga and wondering if it was clearer in the anime (I'm an anime only, so I know that's episode 6 but I don't remember what chapters you said it was). I would have appreciated you finishing that thought thread, since you hadn't watched the episode when you made the comment about the manga. Looking forward to your season 3 videos. You're doing great.

There is slot off questions regarding Rod. While there is no disputing that in his persinal life he is terrible. When it comes to his big picture motives he is trying to do what's right. The question really comes in about why isn't he taking the founder ever? Well he says he can't and it doesn't seam like the other founder holders wanted him to. He in the end tries to do it so he actually is willing. When he does it doesn't work right and we aren't certian why. So we don't know if the other founders could tell that that is what his pure titan would be and that it would be a disaster. The show really is filled mostly with people trying to find the best solution within their means. When it comes down to big picture Rod was probably trying to do his best for humanity.

Kudos to you for bringing attention to a different opinion but Rod is only trying to "save" humanity in the way he alone believes, even over the will of everyone else. He is not good, he believes his job is to serve God and bring his will to earth which is not good for humanity. I dont think even he knows why the founding titan wants to keep them at the mercy of Titans. He just knows that is what the being with the memories of humanity wants for humanity.

I honestly don't understand how anybody sees this in his character. He was wholly selfish and self-serving and just manipulated and gaslighted people around him. He couldn't care less about saving humanity. He just wants to save himself and stay as the ruling family! That's why he didn't wanna become a titan himself, cuz it's essentially a death sentence since he'd end up dying in 13 years. He's a truly deplorable character in every way!

There is an argument for Rodd not being purely selfish when he tried to convince Historia to become a titan. But I think that is a spoiler at this point and since it didn’t improve my opinion of him at all I wouldn’t say it’s a good argument.
