Great video! I love the honesty about APBT's being dog-aggressive. So many people want to be "pibble mommies" and don't have a clue about drives or how breeding affects behavioral tendencies.
@chrisr56497 жыл бұрын
I have never heard the term "pibble mommy" but that is a great way to describe it. An owner needs to be a strong and confident leader. If people are in it for the trend or profile pictures, it is better not to have one.

I was so nervous to watch this video in particular because I had started with your other dog breed videos first and really enjoyed them and said to myself "this is gonna be the decider as to whether I subscribe and this dude actually knows what he's talking about" and literally within the first thirty seconds I saw what you were displaying and I said to myself "yep I'm on board haha". Can I just say I'm from Australia and the FIRST thing I was happy about was the lean condition of all the dogs you have featured in your videos not just the apbt one. I love to see FUNCTION over FORM and even your cane corso video featured some nice looking dogs even though I'm generally not a fan of those dogs (Australia has ruined almost EVERY pure bred dog PERIOD) structurally and I was very impressed at your overall choice of working dogs and what you choose to promote. Just wanna say MASSIVE shout out to you all the way from Australia bringing back EDUCATION and knowledge into the dog world and I'll be proud to drop this link anytime I need to lecture people about the real bulldawg and trust me I lecture almost daily. Thanks for being an actual dog lover and breed advocate not just for the apbt but for our dying population of working dogs. Much love ALSO keep repping them lean fit working dogs if I stop seeing them I'll be shattered! x

I have a senior APBT (Embark test came back 100% APBT). I've never owned a pittie before but have become a believer. There are so many pits/pit mixes in shelters and I hope people adopt, rather than buy. My girl was already 11 when I adopted her, found as a stray. I wish she wasn't so leash reactive with other dogs but on the whole is a sweet girl and good company. She loves being around people and children.

Yes sir, mighty fine video for mighty fine dogs. Just two things I would like to add. It is very true that these mighty fine dogs are very human friendly. It has been said that they are one of, if not the, most human friendly and trusting dogs, and that is because man aggression was, and is still, not favored in the breed. Folks actually do not put human aggressive ones in the breeding program. But while these dogs are human friendly and usually do not make for good guard or watchdogs, let's not forget that they will protect their master if he/she is being attacked. For while they love humans more than the next dog, they fear no man nor beast and will be one of the first dogs to come to the rescue whether their master is being attacked by a man or by beast. Something else I'd like to point out is that, even though their name is the American pit bull terrier, they are actually bulldogs whose job and function has always been as gripping dogs for animals such as bulls and hogs. They are not exactly terriers (earth dogs used to pursue quarry underground). I won't get into much detail, because I don't think I'm the man to try to explain it, but Dogumentary TV, being the amazing channel it is for all things dog, has given us a fantastic video sitting down with the man himself, Richard F. Stratton, in my personal favorite video on KZbin - "ALL ABOUT THE AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER WITH RICHARD F. STRATTON" which goes into detail. I suggest folks that want to learn more give it a watch, like, share, and subscribe to this great channel.

Well there are some real and i mean real apbt lines that are known to be human aggressive. CH Chinaman was actually known to be human aggressive to some degree. Though im not sure if that trait was passed down to his offspring.
@Swell_Character8 жыл бұрын
Matias N You're right about that, buddy. There are definitely some real bulldogs that are definitely mean towards people. Some of them are actually game (though it is a rarity to have a game one be mean towards people); however, folks would do well to remember that this breed is one that is generally said to be, and should be, human friendly. It is standard for them to be man’s best friend, and any bulldog that would show unreasonable/unjustified aggression towards man is not a dog that should be seen as standard or favorable. It is uncharacteristic for the breed. There were designed to help and protect man from other animals as he worked and be safe to break up or pull off of another critter. Breeding a man-aggressive bulldog is also looked down on generally. That is not to say that the pups from such a dog are definitely going to be mean, but the possibility of human aggression in those pups increase when one of their parents is mean. Breeding is a process of taking those with certain qualities (usually favorable) and breeding to another (usually favorable qualities also) to try and produce as many offspring with those favorable qualities as possible. Not all will be favorable, but when you breed two good, standard dogs, you are usually more likely to good, standard offspring.

This is one of the most-accurate, honest and right-to-the-point videos on American Pit Bull Terriers, and includes that fact that most ARE aggressive towards other animals and make lousy guard dogs, which flies in the face of both the "pibble moms" and the wanna-be bad-asses who think that an APBT is the ultimate guard dog. I used to breed real APBT's, out of Carver and Boudreaux lines, for catch dogs, and I finally had to give up due to people coming in my yard when I was at work and stealing my dogs, which goes to show what lousy "guard" dogs they are. They naturally love all people and don't know the meaning of "stranger". Unfortunately, there are so many mongrel dogs out there that are being labeled as "Pit Bulls", which look NOTHING like a real APBT to someone who is knowledgeable of the breed, that are people-aggressive, that it has led to the breed being vilified and blamed for so many human deaths and injuries. Most people think that they know what a Pit Bull looks like, but in reality, have never laid eyes on a real one and wouldn't recognize it if they did.

Thanks to Richard Stratton, she quickly became the most loyal and intelligent dog I've ever been lucky enough to call my own. I never looked back. I've owned more than a dozen since. I've bred and trained and have been completely consumed by these magnificent animals... Trust me though, they're not for everyone. This video is absolutely correct about the size of these dogs. However, I've had 35lb. dogs who thought they were 150lbs. They are fearless and full of energy. If you don't have the time for excersize, don't get an APBT. Get a German Shepherd instead...!

Good video, 2 thing wrong ...it is not aggressive towards humans...but it is going to check everybody who comes around family...to make sure is friend.it is not a great guard dog due to his size...but it is intimidating and usually that is good enough.it can break your leg...or hand but if not trained for guarding that's about it.cqn peel a coconut from its fiber and then break it...so yeah ...if necessary it will break your leg and die protecting you.second...it is not aggressive towards other dogs if it was not raised or if it did not had past bad experience with other dogs...but if challenged it can stand his ground due to the strength and agility (That what genetics is all about).but the character it is build by owner/it takes after the owner,it is a dog who tries to figure out what you want from it and that is what it is going to do.it might misunderstand so he needs help to be sure it understands...loyal trustworthy...i guess like any other breed.i have never breed mine...because it's perfect in every way...and I was afraid that puppies from him might get on the wrong hands. This breed will die...because of fear...lack of understanding and usefulness in our days....said they are mighty....but fear is the root of all evil. Better to disappear then being killed hated mistreated by us...stupid humans. I will never by another pitbull...it hurts to see how some people are looking at him judge him all the time,always has to prove that is nice...always...if small dogs attack he must endure...because if he responds he will be blamed...said.pitbulls first than Rottweiler, dogos and so on....and in 20 years no dogs...my dog is 12 years old...have him since 2 months old...did not cut his balls...never bit another dog...my kid 8 yo...that said....RIPA

That's not being not intelligent. That is the dog personality. Pibbles are very clownish. True APBTs are clownish. They born animal aggressive but you can mitigate that aggressiveness with a lot of effort. You need to make the puppy get accustomed to the animals it may attack if not nurtured. You must make your pit bull doggo socialize when it's just a pupper.

Pitbulls. I have one, a female puppy dog. With a steady hand, good education, a responsible owner and an owner knowing what he does, the pitbull is one of the best, if not the best dog a human can have. Any dog can become agressive, when not being socialized the right way. Agressivity has nothing to do with the breed, but everything with the way you raise your dog! Ones again; know what you do when you decide to buy a dog. The pitbull in general is very energetic, they have lots of energy. You do make a mistake when you don't have plenty of time left to raise the pitbull, then they can become your worst nightmare.

Tianna Halliwell here, in the Netherlands, we took, some years ago, several measures to reduce the number of bite incidents. One of these measures were that dogs like pitbulls, rottweilers, mastiffs had to wear a muzzle, so owners did. Guess what? The number of bite incidents between dogs and humanity stayed exactly the same as before those measures were taken. The measures they took some years ago, are withdrawn. Apparently you do not have a pitbull, probably you have had a bad experience with one. But if one dog has shown bad behaviour, does that mean all dogs do have bad behaviour? Sounds like one man has raped several women, so all men do rape. Or a woman with blue eyes uses crack, so all women with blue eyes use crack.... Or did I misunderstand? If so, please respond and explain. Thank you
@tiannadogs8 жыл бұрын
I LOVE APBT's. Been around many. Not one bad experience. Don't assume. I just know what they are, and how they are with other animals. It IS breed related when a dog is bred to fight, it is going to want to kill other animals. Why is that so bad and taboo to say?

The only issues I have had with them would be when owners don't manage them correctly and they have been allowed to attack other dogs.

But she will grow attached to you quickly. She will show you her personality and yes stubborn and hardheaded but she is emotionally Dependent too. Don't force her to eat. Just put the food there and when she's hungry she will eat it. Trainherto sit and stay. Remember she's a puppy. Have patients with the dog.she will be teething, so get some good toys for her to chew on. Do not abuse the dog but stand your ground when she starts barking . Show her u live her but yet show her who's boss. In fact at times u might wanna ignore here but be near her. My girl is spoiled , but we have a good relationship because I take her everywhere with me, I socialize her each day, she's only 8 weeks but good with kids. And people so far. Exersize regularly is very important for this dog.

Make sure u let her know ur the boss reward her for obedience not disobedience. If she don't want to come in and you're ready for bed for example , tell her to come a did she dose not just pick her up and bring her inside. A tip for training hernot to poop your carpet is to rub her nose by it and have her be by the door, It's pottytrainimg but don't beat the dog harshly when it's only doing what's natural. Igor to train the dog . She will be your loyal companion.

TheBeautyNotebook You can always try to MANAGE dog aggression in a dog but it can NEVER be permanently removed. Genetics will ALWAYS play a bigger part than training.
@mikethedon79846 жыл бұрын
Don't ever get a real apbt genetics play a big role you will never get a jack russell or patterdale terrier from chasing small game nor a golden or labador from retrieving u can manage it but instinct will kick in if left alone trust me

A lot of owners fail to do almost everything on this list, which is why the breed is as misunderstood as it is now.

Real American Pit Bull Terrier breeders don't typically have websites or sell to the public. They sell to insiders.
@redtalks44258 жыл бұрын
Wrong Patrick G it's very hard to find apbt breeders if you don't know the right people an they won't just sell to anyone due to risk of injury to other animals an lack of knowledge an education on the breed people I know wouldn't sell to just General public you have to know everything top to bottom on this breed origin bloodlines an much more alot gose into just getting these breeders to trust you an to get a pup from someone like Mr.Stratton or Mr. P.Colby or Mr.Garner is not just a honor it's the highest level of privilege an i personally an studying to be a American pit bull terrier breeder an I can tell you like many who I respect have told me I wouldn't sell to someone who doesn't have the knowledge that of Tom Garner an Floyd Boudreaux or any old tyme dogmen or women have I'm 3yrs in study of this breed an the Staffordshire bull terrier so really you can't just go out an buy one you gotta have experience with this breed an if these breeders don't know who you are or you don't have a sponsor or mentor chances are you'll be sitting with 1500-2000+$ burning in your pockets an in some cases you can get free pup but you got have your game on an have the knowledge but in this dog game it's shady I've yet to meet those I look up to an study an talking are two of the key elements to become a breeder or Dog Sportsmen it's called being Green an it's hell light night studying an reading pedigrees an talking with breeders an going to show around the country an other countries so really dont go to the websites of dog breeders an the chances of you or I getting American pit bull terrier is highly slim

They can be trained to not be animal aggressive. Proper socialization works wonders. Also, males can weigh up to 85 lbs., but it isn't typical.

Best breed of the k9 world, most of them are cuddle bugs and, the most loyal friend you'll ever have. My apbt is considered a cold dog, she loves to play rough with the big dogs at the park but has never engaged or shown aggression toward other dogs. I'm aware that there are still 'hot' game bred lineages out there better suited for hunting and catching hogs but in my experience, I've yet to come across a pittie that was showing agressivity towards human. Apbt's crave the human connection and are usually too people friendly and not enough wary of strangers too make them great guard dogs. They used to be called nanny dogs but, with years of propaganda and false narratives have managed to warp society's attitude toward that breed.

The weight thing is very debatable because their a lot of old dogmen that had various dogs over 70lbs. Not to say that's what they were breeding for but it is waaaay more common than what is told.and I have an old clip of a w. lighter breeding,the sire was @ 75lbs & the damn was @ 65lbs and he was back in the Colby days
