@@dmurphy1578 I think it was more a status issue. While Jericho had more in-ring talent and better mic skills than just about everyone, he was one of the many kept down by the older generation at that time. Status wise Jericho, as great as he was, was a tv champion aka 3rd tier, he was at the time in the same status as guys like Dean Malenko, Chavo, La Parka, Regal but was a fan favorite due to in-ring work and promo ability. Goldberg was up there status wise with the main eventers, the world champions, the 1st tier guys like Hogan, Flair, Nash, Sting, DDP. His rise was too fast for him to look at himself like the guy who should be doing favors to guys like Jericho then. He didn't want to work with him at the time when he could be headlining PPV's with Sting, DDP, Steiner, Hogan, Savage, Nash, The Giant, Hall, taking out entire factions in handicap matches etc. Was he wrong for it? Hell yes! But like it was mentioned in the video, there were lots of people in Goldbergs ear at the time saying he shouldn't be working with Jericho, which was most likely the same guys keeping guys like Jericho down. They not only wanted to be the guys working with Goldberg, but also the longer Jericho got the rub working angles with Goldberg, the more likely guys like Hogan and Nash would have to be working with him and sharing their spot with him as well. That would have actually been great for WCW, but those guys wanted to keep their own circle to draw money for themselves and keep main eventing.

This was so well done and not in small part due to Jericho's accounts. I think I will pick up his books. It can't be overstated how Chris Jericho is likely THE greatest wrestler of all time IMO. He has been able to reinvent himself over and over, maintain being interesting, integrate his various talents into wrestling for a better experience (ie: his music), and perform at a high level. I will argue that some of his best OVERALL work is in AEW and he brought me back to wrestling after bailing at around 2008. I remember the antics of Jericho and he was a troll before troll culture became an artform and not something necessarily reviled. Not to mention, he didn't get buried by the WWF. And if anyone wants to see what Jericho was just a couple years into his career, watch the pop for Jericho's debut in WWF. We all knew he was possibly going over, but we didn't know when. Then there he was. The only other pop so big was DDP unmasking.

He made the right choice but it would have been interesting if he'd stayed during the Russo era. He'd probably have gotten Jarret's spot and might've even become champion, although it was a sinking ship by that point so he'd have still ended up in WWE with the invasion most likely.

The fact that Jericho wanted to get Bill over by sacrificing himself in such a way shows U the kind of a man he is & at the same time shows U the kind of a man Goldberg is who refused just because he didn't do comedy matches even if it generated heat for his opponent & increased his popularity among the fans, should be an indication to why Jericho is a success & Goldberg isn't.

Jericho loves bumping. He's as good a bumper as a promo cutter. Remember his falls from the tall ladder in the 2016 RAW where the lunatic fringe climbed up Jericho's ladder while everyone else was getting off theirs, and gave Jericho a big punch to make him fall to the mat? That was when he just became mid 40. Dude still bumps in AEW in his late 40s and now early 50s.

What I'm probably left wondering the most about is this: Jericho went into detail about this incident, and while you pointed out his chronology is a bit "loose", it's also not entirely unbelievable. Goldberg doesn't talk much about it, because he doesn't want to talk "comedy" wrestling. (Nowadays it's more tragi-comedy, but that's another topic...) But with Nash being around for BOTH scenarios... has he gone into depth about it on any of his shoots? Kevin LOVES to talk like he's the coolest cat in the room, so him adding his two cents about this heated situation is not far from the Nash bag-o-tricks!
