OK! This comment is way overdue. I thought people would read the description more often, but I guess not. I've got a few things to address First up, I made this video when I had like 72 subs, I didn't think it would blow up! Thank you very much for watching! 1. My audio is bad. Yes, I realized. This is fixed though. I ordered one after my sacred seals video. All my video starting from my "best claws guide" uses the new mic. 2. Loretta's Greatbow/Loretta's Mastery is NOT affected by the glintstone staff (fml, the one thing I decided to trust the wiki and it comes back to bite me in the ass). I should've tested this myself, but I was like "oh, people aren't going to be bored enough to put this here if it wasn't buffed." Sigh~ (Yes, when I made this video the wiki stated that Loretta's spells are buffed by glintblade staff. It's fixed now). 3. Infinite mana physic! I did forget to include this! Thank you for pointing it out. It definitely makes Lusat's much more usable, but it only lasts for 15 seconds and imho doesn't make Lusat's that much better. 4. Talisman/"just get more mind" I will address this in my dual wield staff video. I didn't mention this, but these are actually points that make Lusat even "worse". 5. Talk more about dual wield staves. As per my description, this video is more about using a single staff rather than pure sorc with dual wielding. I will be making a follow up video on dual wielding staves. I didn't want the video to be 30min long! 6. Taking into account defense. Ok, this is a good argument for multi-hitting spells + Lusat's to make the damage % gain "higher" than 10%. However, defense isn't as punishing in ER as DS3, so the difference is usually not much. I didn't want to add 10 minutes to the video explaining defense just to give an argument on Lusat's. This will also be covered in the dual wield video. Here is the def calc video if you're interested in knowing more about split scaling and how defense works. I already simplified it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYXbgH2ao5ions0 7. Finally, overall, my opinion after trying Lusat's and Carian Regal is I still rather run Carian Regal over Lusat's. You, however, are not forced to agree with me. If you think the other youtubers are right or you're just used to Lusat's I'm not trying to stop you from using it. Just try giving Carian Regal a go. You might still think Lusat's is better and that means the damage tradeoff to FP is worth it for you! It just isn't worth it for me.

If someone is at 65 int for some reason, academy glintstone staff is still the best. PVE Consideration: Also, at approx. 50 int and you're choosing between radagon soreseal and magic scorpion charm? the scorpion charm generally gives significantly better damage than the extra 20 int basically (52->72 int). You may want to still choose the higher int for a specific spell/ staff bonus tho. Example: my stats are running thin because I'm using shield and I still wanna use a moon spell, I can use soreseal to sacrifice negation for more int (the shield offsets this).

In Dark Souls 2 the 2 "best" staffs people would use in pvp where longer than all the others, because spells came out from the tip of the staff, when facing a mage experience players would rush them so the spell would go over their head, when this happened to me I got the idea of taking a shorter staff that barely does less damage, but because no one else did that, other players would just rush at me not knowing it and would just get head shooted by a crystal spear. Edit: The Staff of Amana.

I know this is only about spellbuff and spell passives and all but another thing to consider about Carian Regal Sceptre for a mage is the unique version of the Spinning Weapon AoW, being a bit safer to use and the damage scaling off Int and Magic Scorpion for when an enemy starts closing the gap.

One of the things people also don't bring up when talking about lusat's vs regal Scepter is that a good opponent will put pressure on a mage and try to close the distance. The greatest opportunity to punish said mage is when they are chugging fp. So consuming more fp makes it easier to punish you since you will need to drink more often.
@monhi64
@monhi64 5 ай бұрын
Yeah good point but that mostly affects PvP which is a lot rarer than PVE. The other thing is I am curious about is Id think even with the insane extra FP consumption you should still be able to take out PvP opponents without any refill whatsoever. But that obviously depends on the spells you’re using and your base FP. Lusats is def overrated 11% more damage for 50% more FP is such a bad trade

Yeah, as far as I'm concerned, there should only be a "school" of magic that can be boosted if there are at least 5 spells associated with it. The stuff like Blood Sorcery that has exactly 2 spells in it (which is odd because blood magic is split between these 2 and then 3 incantations) shouldn't have so much gear associated with it when it's just 2 spells. Same thing with Bubble Magic and the Digger Spells, each of which also only have 2 spells associated with them. At least Death magic has about 5 spells and Gravity magic about the same. That to me is enough to theme a school around.

Just wanted to say, in case you’re a hybrid build (str/dex/quality- Ish)and you stop int at 50 since majority of AoW/somber weapons softcap there, the best staves are carian glintblade, at 263, you only lose 2 points compared to astrologier and 6 to academy, but you get a boost to all carian techniques that have floating swords to them, on the other hand, carian glintstone boost carian slicer, adula moonblade, piercer and greatsword, sitting at 257 scaling at 50 int, so it’s a good alternative if you’re looking to use those powerful sorceries!

12:27 Must be addee this info: Death Magic will not deal its full damage unless you are using an INT FTH scalign staff. If you use a nornal INT scaling staff. the Death Spells will only use 50% of the sorcery scaling as its sorcery scaling. So... if you have 390 sorcery scaling on your usual INT staff, and you use your usual Rancorcall, it will use 60% of the 50% of the sorcery scaling for its damage. But if you use Deathprince, and you have 45 45. Now it will use the 50% of the 373 sorcery scaling. So even if the staff says "Roughly 10% damage bonus" Its still necessary that your staff uses both. This is almost the exact same way Dark Magic used to work on Dark Souls.

Great video, I agree with your conclusions for your staff picks between 60-80 int for general play. At the early game- mid game I think meteorite staff is the best choice due to the sheer effectiveness of rock sling and is what I used until 60 int, however if you have the mats you can upgrade another staff while using meteorite and swap over when the scaling is better, in the case you're not using rock sling that much. I think there is a case when lusats is optimal and that is when using the cerulean hidden tear for infinite fp at 70+ int, using this combo in conjunction with comet azur or meteorite of astel can provide ridiculous damage and melt bosses, so is better to use lusats staff in this situation, as when you have infinite fp using another staff would just be leaving damage on the table.

Whilst most of this is true on paper, there is one thing that seems to be overlooked. I didnt really care about it before, so i basically skipped ovedr the Lusat's part when i first watched this video. Yes, if you do PVE, efficiency means stable dps and therefore probably higher damage per fp flask, so far so good. In PVP however, we do have one imporant facter which was overlooked. Motion value and the damage calculation. It is even more true after the patch that changed the PVP damage formula (note: the video was created much earlier than this patch was released) A higher initial damage / Attack Power of the spell means we have a far higher damage output in pvp. IIRC it's the same as it was in DS3, where if your Defense was 8x higher than the AR of the attacker, damage was reduced by 90% before negations (or something like that). You showed how it worked in your damage calc video. This means that the base damage increase from Lusats holds a higher value in PVP than it does in PVE, becaus it is more likely to break through the defenses of your target. 2 Staves of Loss + Night Shard and Comet will be the best bet in PVE. Also, the carian phalanx is the weakest spell in PVP, damage wise (good for controll and maybe interrupts, depends on the utility wanted) whereas the Greatblade Phalanx will have the highest pure damage in PVP (easier to dodge though). Due to the addition of SB on Lusats, the impact of buffs will be stronger as well, at least if the DS3 formula is still correct. Let's use the Glintstone Pebble as an example. If fextra is correct, it has a 1.52 SB multiplier. Lusats adds 430 SB at 99 int. If you add 15% of the cracked tear and 8% from the graven mass talisman, and we factor it into the SB, we receive a 430 SB. If we translate it to an AP value, we receive a 430 * 1.52 = 653.6 AP (power before reduction). At lvl 150 (99 int, 60 vigor) we have a magic defense of 202. According to the DS3 formula, I am in the second bracket, atk

I'd argue that the briar spells are intended for sorcerers who invested in faith just enhough to use those spells, but with the regular staffs. the staff of the guilty is actually for the reverse of that: faith builds with minimal intelligence investment to unlock low level sorceries, which can be cast at high spellbuff because of the faith scaling. golden order builds can get even more spells for their build, at the cost of less spellbuff.

Honestly the extra 50% FP consumption from the Lusat staff and 20% from the Azur staff is meaningless if you use the Physick Flask with the Hidden Cerulean Tear. It's only 15 seconds and with even faster cast speeds you'll probably get between 10 to 12 seconds of infinite FP. Doesn't sound like it's alot but in 10 to 12 seconds you can smash out alot of damage. Most mobs weak and strong will crumble in only a few seconds before FP use is any concern. I find running around with dual staves using the Carian Glintblade staff in my off hand and the Carian Scepter in my main hand is best for general use of playing the game since you get the benefit of boosed Glintstone sorceries which I use a good number of and the high sorcery scaling of the Carian Scepter. For boss fights I'll switch Lusat in my main hand for the extra damage and FP consumption is not a concern since I use my Physick Flask for 10 to 12 seconds of Infinite FP blast them with Comet Azur or Meteorite of Astel and almost no boss survives the first 5 to 8 seconds depending how much HP they have and how stationary or mobile they are. I don't PvP at all so I honestly cannot comment on the usage of efficiency how I run my build with dual staves. All I know is for the game itself PvE I have found the best way to dual staff the game.

I don't really care about PvP, but I know you also need to take into account how many casts it takes to kill an enemy. There were many moments in the game where lusat's was enough to 1 shot an enemy where my other staves would take 2 shots. At that point, lusat's is better. For bosses, I just take lusat's on my first try and see how much of the boss' health I can take out with my full fp. If it looks like I will need more fp, I'll take a different one on the next try.

Kinda gunning for the rare scenarios in complete disregard for everything else. Sure some enemies could be one-shot when they would otherwise be two-shot, but does that really justify the 50% decrease in effectiveness everywhere else? @@trutyatces8699 not a rare scenario in my experience. Besides, it's not hard to see which is gonna be more effective just by, you know, casting a spell at the enemy. There's plenty of smithing stones as well. You really don't lose anything by having multiple staves upgraded and in your inventory.

Long story short: Keep in mind that this guy's info is focused on single staff usage, and not dual-wielding staves. Some information was supplemented by personal experience. I did this because, if nothing else, I know my attention span won't be existent long enough to re-consult the video. I know (some of) my own flaws. :p At 10-30 int: Demi-Human Queen Staff Astrologer's Staff (req: 16 int) Glintstone Staff Meteorite Staff (req: 18 int) At 40-65 int: Academy Glintstone Staff Carian Glintblade Staff Carian Glintstone Staff Azur's Glintstone Staff Astrologer's Staff Glinstone Staff At 70 Int: Carian Regal Scepter Carian Glintblade Staff Carian Glintstone Staff Azur's Glintstone Staff Crystal Staff Academy Glintstone Staff At 80 int: Carian Regal Sceptre Crystal Staff Azur's Glintstone Staff Academy Glintstone Staff Arcane > 60: Albinauric Staff (Int + Fth) > 144: Prince of Death Staff Glass Cannon/One-shot: Lusat's Crystal Staff Off-hand Staves for Dual-wielding: Staff of Loss Meteorite Staff Carian Glintblade Staff Carian Glintstone Staff Other staffs were listed as earlier alternatives, in case the others weren't collected. The basic Glintstone and Astrologer staves aren't special, but they're still decent. The Crystal Staff can be an alternative to the Carian Regal Scepter if it is, for whatever reason, unobtainable. There is also a reason why Lusat's Crystal Staff is only listed as use for being a glass cannon. The FP costs outweigh it's usefulness in nearly every scenario, but if you intend to obliterate Mohg out of existence with a single laser beam, then that's the one really good utility for Lusat's Crystal Staff. More recent testing with the Meteorite Staff has me saying it is pretty decent for low-mid intelligence builds. It also doesn't require upgrading (since it cannot be upgraded at all). Basically, the Meteorite Staff is optimal until around Altus Plateau - by that point, your intelligence stat makes other staves significantly better, with the application of some upgrades at a blacksmith. If you prefer extreme simplicity over optimization, then here's a short staff progression system: 10-28 int: Glintstone Staff Astrologer's Staff (if start as Astrologer) Better staves for 10-28 int: Demi-Human Queen Staff Meteorite Staff (requires 18+ int) 28+ int: Academy Glintstone Staff Yes, anywhere at 28 int or above, the Academy Glintstone Staff is a good lazy option. It performs very well and has no penalties. However, it also doesn't benefit from any special boosts.

Lusats in my left to get the bonus damage (don't ask me why, some spells do more damage off the left hand, like the moonblade one) and then azurs on the right hand for the casting speed damage. I will then switch from azurs sometimes to get a damage boost and to slow down my attacks. Mixing up attack speeds and changing damage etc. There's a lot you can do offhanding staffs, just keep changing them. You can even have them all equipped at once and just cycle between them. Remember that an Optimized Dueling build isn't always the same as an Optimized Invasion build too! In my experience, if you want to burst some fools down in Invasions by lobbing sorceries from a long distance, the damage boost from Lusat's is super worth it. My Glass Cannon build catches people off guard pretty frequently, since they aren't used to someone at my level pumping all the way to 80 Int and setting up Hyper mode.

I'm gonna go ahead and play "Blood star's advocate" with the staff of the guilty. After the buff, Briars of sin is absolutely worth building a whole character around, especially in invasions. Briars of sin now has buffed damage, buffed speed, and most importantly, massive hyper armour, and due to it being a chain cast of 3 stages, you can combo 2 of those out of a quick Carian Slicer. The 3rd hit of Briars of sin rollcatches very well, and the total damage you can get with CS -> 2 Briars is often enough to kill anyone who hasn't pumped their vigour high enough. The 2nd briar can be seamlessly transitioned into projectiles in case a host or phantom starts to run. You can either run 14 int to save for stats or 15 to use icecrag, but both icecrag and glintstone pebble's 2nd cast transitions into a briars of punishment. This has always been there but its still not a bread and butter so back then it was absolutely not worth building around but with Sin in the picture, I'd argue its very much worth it. How you should be using these spells, is as a finisher when your opponent isn't even aware they're in range to be finished. A weapon like a scythe can easily get bleed buildup even when dodged, and a good mix of glintshards and pebbles can get a little of your opponents health down, just high enough to where they don't wanna waste a heal over it. This is where you bait everyone into being aggressive, space a good safe slicer, and boom, briars of sin. If it doesn't kill the host it almost always will kill the phantom and vice versa. TL;DR after the patch Briars of Sin is so strong in invasions I would wholeheartedly suggest building a faith caster around the 2 spells we have.
@xuanathan
@xuanathan 2 жыл бұрын
As a quick follow up, I mentioned this before but 14 int is a magic number, allowing you to use a lot of low int staples, such as Carian Slicer, Magic Glintblade, Swift Glintshard, and Glintstone Pebble, the real trade of the build is exchanging spells like Comet, which I'd argue could be worth it. As a side note, I like to use weapons I'd typically not expect alongside a sorcerer, like a Flaming Strike Grave Scythe or even Black Flame Tornado for a strong punish.

38 mind with a full buffed cerulean flask grants a full bar. If you have a mix of melee and ranged magic, most PvP players dont instantly engage when you ahve soace. Especially if you are agressive in playstyle. Ive found its easier to heal and refresh the more agrressive you fight. As they usually need to heal themselves. Giving you a chance to recoup. Glintstone, meteorite, and loss staffs will all be offhanded. Lusat at mainhand. Swap to each spell round youre going into. I found that putting spells in order of their type, can give you a set of spells to put consistent pressure on your enemy helps consoderably. Youd be surpised the cast synergy you can work out with enough practice. I should mention that the Primal Glinstone Talisman gives an effective 112% increase to FP cost versus the 150% Lusats gives you on its own. You lose some health, but if youre a pure mage, you can actually drop 60 Vigor, 38 Mind, 16 endurance, and at least 80 intelligence -up to 99- for 200RL builds. Theres actually a LOT of people, especially now with the difficult DLC, at 200RL for PvP.
