Until I actually purchased a couple Case XX knives, I didn't really realize just how much more durable and heavy they typically are compared to Rough Ryders or Frosts.

My Case trappers are solid, but the Copperlock feels very light, especially compared to this Rough Ryder. I can't speak for many other models. Which ones did you notice it in?
@KandaJE8 ай бұрын
@@rustyminer The handle of the Changer alone feels heavier than the Gerber 350st exchange with the biggest flat top blade in it. The blades are thicker and heavier. The sheath is heavy wide thick leather compared to Gerber's 600D nylon sheath. To be honest, I wouldn't wear the Case XX every day like I did with the Gerber for over 20 years! Only camping. Don't have any trappers yet. They have yet to arrive...

@@rustyminercase trapper will have more weight and feel solid because it’s a dual blade and will have more brass liners than the copperlock fullsize. But does the copperlock feels cheap for it size weight wise? Planning to buy the richlite copperlock

Three great knives. Maybe I'm just too partial to case but I really love that copper lock case. The rough rider is a close second in my opinion. Have a wonderful day today brother

The Case is the best of all three in my book, unless you want "hard use", then the Rough Ryder feels more sturdy, but I am not going to put that Large Copperlock to work. Not hard work anyway. Maybe it would hold up great though. I have heard they have a reputation of breaking at the tip.

@rustyminer broken tip sounds horrible. However case dose have a wonderful warranty

Great video and great comparison. Personally, I wanted all three knives; the Case as an obvious first choice, but I had to desist because I would like a large model and they are difficult to find. Then, of course, the cost. Since it is imported, it would cost me a lot of money! I discovered the Frost, and for what I was looking for, it suited me very well. Then I saw the Rough Ryder, I was going to buy it, but I read on other reviews that the first models have problems. Then aesthetically, it doesn't come close to the Case. It remains by far the most beautiful. Result: I didn't buy any of the three! Patience, I'll wait until I have enough money and one day I'll pull the trigger on the Case. Greetings from Italy🙂

Nothing wrong with patience my friend. Yes, Case is expensive. But, consider this, Case knives were selling for half the money 20 years ago. I see Case Trappers listed at $35 in 2000. Some of those will bring at least the $35 if not $65 - $70 and even $350 for the right ones.

@@rustyminer Thanks. Yes, I understand what you mean. I'll wait, no problem. See you next video, Rusty. God bless you.

Nice comparison! That Rough Ryder is hard to beat for the money. I do think that Case does a great job with the bone. Case jigging is the best on bone handles and I don’t see others with that kind of jigging. Thanks for showing them to us. 👍

You are welcome. I bought the Frost last fall to see if I liked the pattern, then, I really wanted a Case Large Copperlock, but did not want to spend the money. Then I watched as Copperlocks on eBay continue to bring the same money or more, so I figured, "Why not?" When Rough Ryder came out with their 30th anniversary Black Reserve, I was excited, but, they had really raised the price. This one is one of the lower priced ones, so I figured "Why Not?"

Nice to see all three together! It’s the Frost for me - $20 is my max. Thanks!

Great comparison. I love the Frost jigging & its nice & slim. The RR has the nicest blade IMO. The Ganzo is a great knife for price. Great video buddy👍

@@rustyminer I have a couple of mini copperlocks . I have a small case collection maybe 10 ish, my favorite case lockback is my tribal in burnt purple jigged bone "I was lucky & got a good one" This week I have been carrying a case 00156 small calibre lockback & it is a great little 5th pocket user with a nice hollow gring, it is small & light & useful... I do like the look of the large copperlock just never pulled the trigger on one, you did well finding one.

Thanks Mike. I usually feel like I could do better after I watch my own videos. The lighting, I need to slow down, I need to wear my glasses so I can see better, but, in the end, I will never be 100% satisfied, so I usually try to do it in one try.

The RR Reserve models probably have the bet fit of any production knives out there except GEC. The finishes tend to be generic and unrefined and they struggle with some design points, but really great knives for the money. Of course, made in China so they will never hold any value, but good users. Case really should step up their game a bit, though still my preferred choice.

The Rough Ryder feels really well built, but is a new model, the Case has been around since 1998, so has some history behind it. Real quick I am taking a break from social media. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and commenting. I will drop a few videos between now and October, but have plans for many videos this fall/winter/spring
