Awesome, had a list like this, with topor orb and bringer of days, hunted horror et al - it was rally fun to play. Not so much for an opponent when you get wrecked by a 26/26 BoP

You could try going Sultai for some cantrips, such as Thought Scour. Or maybe Jund for the discarding. E-wit might also help you get those Varolzes and whatnot back from the 'yard if that happens. In the Jund plan you'd have access to Kolaghan's command for that too, which is nice. These plans might be complimented by Stinkweed Imp or a Life from the Loam, for the dredge and in case you mana screw through self-mill.

have you tried tainted strike or glistening oil to make scavenging death's shadow lethal in one turn? You could also run flesh//blood to give you another way to scavenge shadow even though it's not good.

I actually have a Varolz EDH deck with Phyrexian stuff and selfmill shenanigans. I know a guy who plays that one Abzan commander who lets you cast doods from your graveyard who uses Varolz, and tells me that I should do the same, but I tell him that I'd sooner remember his commander's name than betray the best GB commander like that.

using things like Grizzly Salvage in the GB build it could be interesting using the new Emrakul as he could be really cheap if you put a 3 drop Nissa in there to give you 1 more card type. Not saying it is the best but could be interesting as a new top end after sideboard.

Singleton Jarad's Orders. #1CardCombo It's not GOOD, but it's SWEET. I like the list and I'd like to see some tuning. Ballista Varolz is sweet. A more serious suggestion might be Hardened Scales and lean a little more into the counters thing.

+Dennis Crenshaw I used to play a Jarad EDH deck for a few months, it had the Varolz engine in there with a DS and a Lord of Extinction, and I played Jarad's Orders. I fear it would be too slow in the current super-speed Modern.

7000% too slow yeah, haha. I'd rather run more Grapples than that thing. I honestly think the mana dorks can go for more interaction and creatures with +1/+1 synergies like the Abzan Scales/Abzan Counters decks. You are a Rock Deck with a sweet combo finish, don't go faster, just grind em out and slow things down to your pace. More pushes, more synergy and just grind em to dust.

This build is really sweet. You always have a spicy brew here. There is one thing that bother me though. I think 16 lands is way too less. I know you have a lot of mana dorks but you opening hands much be really bad most of the time. I probably cut the mystic and hangerback and play about 21 lands.

With 8 manadorks and 6 X costing creatures, and dead Death's Shadows when on too high a life, Company would be a little weak potentially. There is certainly a build out there I'm sure. I joked about it to John, that it needs company. He dismissed me because his heart is full of hate.

i saw a jund version at my locals like a month or 2 ago it was more aggressive no ballista, but it had vexing devils and goblin guilds so the cards were solid on the own but they had high synergy with the scavenger
