the fact that peeta really was not supposed to survive that, he only survived because katniss care for him, because of the feelings that will eventually become love, but more than that its about her humanity.. its just so poetic the way it highlights katniss's strength in her compassion as well as the bond she shares with peeta, which was only possible because of katniss's compassion and humanity

It was so intense, I was like 11 reading it and I couldn’t fully process how scary and bizarre it all really would be

honestly would kill for a rated R remake of the Hunger Games series, that doesn't cut out any of the more gruesome parts of the books

I can understand being frustrated about it, but as you said, they mainly reduced Peeta‘s trauma which I deem an alright choice. I wouldn’t have minded Peeta losing a leg but it’s not all that important for the plot of the other movies, it would mainly serve the purpose of showing more physical consequences (cause they already do have plenty of nightmares and trauma). The only thing they should’ve kept was Peeta being kinda deadly injured so the game makers would know that he’d die for sure whether he takes the berries or not and Katniss showing the determination to die too - which wouldn’t be all that surprising as she has already volunteered for the deadly games, which is usually a death sentence especially for district 12 people. But all of that would work even if Peeta wouldn’t lose his leg. I think they mainly wanted to keep it marketable for teens and maybe they felt like the whole ending would’ve been too much. But honestly, to me Hunger Games aren’t really teen movies, there is so much I only managed to appreciate after I was older and knew more. E.g. my bf comes from a country with very recent, very bloody communist history (and currently a defacto dictatorship) and he liked the movies because they very accurately portray these things even the subtle parts of it. Like, it’s not too on the nose. Anyway, the movies are great nevertheless, I think most people can agree on that

Yeah, I agree that Peeta loosing his leg wasn’t necessary for the movies. Like, he and Katniss are minors; we don’t explicitly need to see any more gruesome gore and torture, because the point is already made at multiple different moments that the games are barbaric. I also think the uncanny effect of district 12 fighting Cato in the dead of night, only for the arena to quickly shift to daytime when he dies, is a good visual for reminding us how unnatural the arena and the games are. It reminds us that all of the loss was a sick machination by the Capitol for their own enjoyment.

I'm mad they magically fixed Peeta's leg too. I know they have to edit things down and shorten sequences for movies but there was no need to cut that out. It would only have taken adding in a moment for Katniss to realise during the interview and lift his trouser leg to show the prosthetic.
@laurenm314824 күн бұрын
Yes! I would have loved that prosthesis visibility. An easy inclusion.

It would have taken only a moment to add in the first movie, but the injury would have consequences in the follow up movies, which they didn't have to deal with. Just another reason the books are better.

First movie they left out a lot of great details, like Madge. Thankfully the second movie is a lot more accurate

Yeah I was disappointed they didn't show Madge, such a great character

They also wanted to give Katniss breast implants while she was unconscious and Haymitch flipped and wouldn't allow it, which is a bit of foreshadowing for Finnick but I get why that was cut from the movie way more than Peeta's leg.

And she was 16 iirc. The movies don’t show how young these kids were

Also that Katniss fully lost her hearing in one ear and had to get an implant

Wait why am I just realizing he died 3 times within a year. Holy heck. A few questions: - Why do we think the Capitol resuscitated Peeta after the Games when they could have let him die a hero & buried him? - Do you think Haymitch died after his games? Like he was convulsing on the ground VERY close to death. It makes sense they’d resuscitate him coz he was the only one alive & they “have to have their Victor” ^ lowkey I’m just realizing Peeta saying this bleeding out would have also been so much for Snow 😮 & by that I mean movie Snow coz he says this LOL.

Ya Peeta went through it 😭 I think the Capitol resuscitates him because it’d be even more embarrassing for them if he died. It seems extremely common the victors barely survive the games themselves, and the Capitol makes sure they live. They need victors to add meaning to the games, hope to the district folks. When the Capitol shows how they can save victors on the brink of death, it makes them look powerful too.

The fact that Peeta’s heart stops three times in give or take nine months (twice in the 74th games and then once during the quarter quell. I’m not sure if my math is accurate, but it’s my best guess) hurts me so much.

I had a friend defend the ending of Mockingjay because she beloved that Prim was a more important character than Peeta. I mean are you kidding me? I'm glad I read the book instead.

Fun Fact: I counted she had 1 arrow left that wasnt in Peeta's wrap so she could have killed Cato earlier😀 Also not to meantion Clove's more brutal death!

I just watched all of your Hunger Games videos, they are amazing and reminded me of how much I love this trilogy (you also seem to really love Peeta as much as I do, which I appreciate haha). I didn't enjoy The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes on the same level because I'm so attached to the Hunger Games' characters emotionally (especially to Peeta and Katniss). But when Sunrise of the Reaping comes out I'll be reading everything again and giving it a new chance (because I recognize it is a well-written story even if I didn't find it as enjoyable as the trilogy). I'm excited for the new book and I hope I get to listen to your takes on it as well! ❤

Thank you! I'm so glad you like the videos! I have similar feelings about Ballad also. It's definitely a good, interesting story, it's just such a huge shift going from being in Katniss's head into Snow's. It was hard for me to connect with the other characters since I had to see them through Snow's selfish, cold, apathetic perspective. The trilogy (and Katniss & Peeta) have my whole heart, so the prequels have a lot live up to! I have much higher hopes for Sunrise though since I love Haymitch and am so excited to get his POV, and get see what life was like in Panem around the 50th games

I totally agree! And yes, I really like Haymitch as well and I think he's a very interesting character, it'll be fascinating to see things from his perspective aaa I'm excited!!
