Don't forget Australia is contributing to that $1.7 trillion also because it's a 'joint' program. Canada pulled out of the deal years ago, they were smart enough to see the writing on the wall, and don't have to fear a Chinese invasion. Then Australia pulled out of a French Submarine deal, opting for a 'theoretical' US submarine that's still on the drawing board and 20+ years away, if at all. All decisions made by a 'Republican' Australian Government at the time. Glad I am an old dude, the world's gone mad and common sense no longer exists in the generational gene pool.

Actually, after rejecting the F-35, and considering replacing our 1980's vintage CF-18's with Super Hornets or the SAAB Gripen, the Trudeau government reversed itself in March 2022 and is now committed to buying around eighty-eight F-35's for a projected cost of between $15 billion to $19 billion (Cdn), with a total life cycle cost put at around $77 billion. No one in their right mind thinks those cost projections will be anything close to the final figures.
@lukewise1227
@lukewise1227 Жыл бұрын
And another thing.... It takes four Super Hornets and a Tanker to deliver a payload of the same weight, at the same distance, as one F1-11C (Ardvark or Pig). For a fraction of the cost we could have commissioned a fleet of new F1-11's with modern avionics and materials from McDonnell-Douglas and still had change left over for some more Hornets or F-16's. We don't even have an aircraft carrier or Fleet Air Arm anymore. So why do we need a VTOL?

The F-35 is very expensive, but at least 10 American allies have purchased it. So, hopefully some of the costs will be offset by foreign purchases. This fighter jet will have to serve for at least 30 years. It is intended to replace 4 older, obsolescing fighter jets currently in use. Israel will have to use a fleet of f-35's to attack the Islamic Republic of Iran. We have to meet both military and social needs. Unfortunately, we have enemies and need to offset their military capabilities.
@ENDtheFED-it4bo

While I agree with the sentiment, the F-35 is the most advanced aircraft in the world and hundreds have already been purchased by other countries. This video does not demonstrate holistically that the program is a failure. It actually doesn't present any information as to why what we saw happen happened. Maybe that was a test of a prototype, maybe the pilot made a mistake, etc.

In all good truth we are a Military Nation. Likely this was a training maneuver. Our men do need quality training. Remember, they are your sons, daughters, husband's, wife's, our citizens! But the "kid" help DOESN'T help everyone. I've raised mine, no help from the government. No help for college either. Kid help at work as reported afforded more tattoos, drugs, drama lessons, new dogs and registered horses. I and many others just got to pay our taxes while the United States gives money to Isreal and Ukraine while we still purchase our own health care. Health services are private sector. You no a pay you no a have!Now that's a REAL American problem! Make more kids people CAN'T AFFORD.

Failed? The F-35 is currently one of the best fighter jets in the world. Also look at all the technologies that go into a project like that that have to be created and refined and everything else those advancements can be applied to. Advancement is expensive and it needs to happen in order to keep our families and friends safe from those who would wish to do us harm.

What an uneducated viewpoint. What "values" do you want promoted? Going to assume worshiping the flag is up there on your list. Why should we support our military murdering innocent women and children instead of actually defending the country? The military keeps expanding to increase MIC profits for shareholders.

This is because of the lack of leadership and parental guidance. Child tax credit does not solve anything but encourage more bad choices. Talk about shame when you here of a 7 year old bringing a gun to school. Talk about shame when you hear about a 16 year old shoots and kills a innocent 5 year old. Talk about shame when you hear how many of these kids are being sexually molested in the home by a family member. Maybe it's just me. But ejecting seemed a bit pointless, and more dangerous than staying in the failed jet. Esp since it had pretty much already come to a stop. They could have just waited a few seconds, and simply walked away from it. Mind you, knowing how much of a screw-up this plane is. They may not have had a choice, it may just have spat them out because the software decided it was a great idea.

The child tax credit isn't going to do garbage. Stop trying to subsidize poverty and start changing policies to help those in poverty to get good jobs.
@y_fam_goeglyd

The jobs need to be there in the first place. It has been shown time after time that all the "top down" crap doesn't work - _ever_ ! And that's exactly why there are so many ultrarich people running the country behind the scenes - getting personal tax breaks worth millions! - and poorer families in areas where there is no money for investment in jobs are going without heat, food and shelter. From what I've learnt from American friends and family, the US social security system is a bloody nightmare. Those who run it are even more incompetent than our own civil servants, and that's not easy! As someone who, despite having a working husband (I'm disabled to the point where I can no longer go out to work, much to my annoyance, putting it mildly - since I was 35 and something went wrong with my back when I had my 3rd child. And no, proving it would have been nigh on Impossible and I couldn't afford a lawyer just to find out if I had a case. This was before the "no win, no fee" thing), would have gone under if our country didn't have child tax credits. Ironically, we would have been better off with hubby not working if they didn't exist, because getting them pushed us just over the financial edge to the point where we could just manage, partly because of the credits and partly due to his not brilliantly paid full-time job (salaried and in education; not him as a student, it is his job. Unfortunately it's only 40 weeks a year, so when the kids were young, holidays were impossible because he got approx 7-8 times _less_ during his enforced breaks). Mercifully, now the kids are grown up and all bar one have left (he's staying with us partially because despite a good science degree, he can't find a job, and partially to help us because we're both now disabled), and we're no longer entitled to any such child credits, we do get a small amount of working tax credits because of his pretty low income and our disability benefits. We're better off now than at any time during our 36 years together. Not rich by any means, and I rely on my benefits as my sole source of income. Back then, without those few extra pounds a month making the difference between us feeding the kids _and_ us, or just the kids. Before they came in, he and I often went hungry. This is the choice being given. Stuff yet more money into non-tax-paying billionaires' pickets, or directly help those who need it (the credit would help with the cost of the kids, leaving more for the adults to be able to go to work and pay the bills.) Yes, some people will abuse the system, but you can't tell me that they're any worse than these "tax free bosses".

You need child care affordability with jobs. Daycare runs over $25 k a year. We can do both by eliminating the tax breaks to multi millionaires, billionaires, and trillionaires. We can have the jets and save the kids, and let moms be moms at home. Kids that have stay at home moms grow up less likely to be involved in crime. Crime costs our country billions.
