The real Kevin Rudd: a man despised by those who know him, who spent three years undermining Australia's first female Prime Minister, Julia Gillard.

The tragedy of Julia Gillard is that if she had been more patient, and let Rudd run his natural course in politics, she may have ascended to leadership with more public support. What happened was a mystery to most Australians at the time.

Kevin would always be remembered for being a very popular PM backstabbed by his own party, the same party that later begged him to save them from annihilation in 2013. Labor lost in 2013 but even Kevin's worst enemies admit that under Gillard it would have been disastrous. If only they would have reinstalled him sooner - or better - never removed him in the first place.

Kevin Rudd wasn't perfect but this country would be in a much better place if we had elected his government in 2013. No budget emergency, no new taxes and stupid cuts, gay marriage would probably be legalised by now and the renewable energy industry would be doing marvelous.

Understatement ;) but then they ran (“alllllegedly”) Rapey Bill Shorten at the last fed election, and knifed Ruddy with Comrade Gillard, and have a half-wit trade unionist as their current Opp Leader. Labor’s choice of leader has always been bizarre. “Same old Labor”, really :p

On budget night 2012 Wayne Swan began his speech with, “The four years of surpluses I announce tonight” turned into an $18 billion deficit on budget night 2013. Twelve weeks later the forecast budget deficit has blown out to $30 billion which shows Treasury is in disarray under Labor and Rudd is still out there making commitments worth billions of dollar which he doesn’t have. In short, the Rudd spendathon is out of control.

@qobti123

I strongly believe if a person is so bad as they mention, no way he will have followers such as Ferguson, Albanese...etc. Yes he is a cranky person, he is unable to control it better. However, how many people are worst in anger and treat people badly. The problem here is that those like Smith , Swan,Peter what ever his surname who once our school gave him a present for his participation in farewell the students at the end of the year. He stayed just 5 minutes, received the present and left it on the chair and he was the Education Minister. But the press does not say that about this arrogant man. Kevin was entitle to his anger, but at least he was working hard, the others want to work just mediocre , just to see them doing something but receiving the big money and claiming here and there. With Kevin they could not. Whatever it is said Kevin was a prepare person , what it was his bigger mistake to allow the others to dictated on his policy. Everyone knows that he just has to abandon climate policy as a result of Julia and Swan. He never was able to get their unity to his program, whether Kevin was beside them when they passed the Carbon Tax. So before trying to rip Kevin think this " The Giant is not follow by pigeons unless he is a gentle giant" The answer here Kevin did have important people following him, he did have the respect of the world leaders.

I'd say that Kevin Rudd is a sociopath, his obsession with retaining power and trying to claw at anyone to stay on top is evidence of that. Julia Gillard's time in government was (and i'm being nice) quite embarrassing for her, it couldn't have gone any worse in my opinion, and my guess is that Kevin orchestrated it, all the way, which shows what a treacherous character he is.

I think he was a perfectionist and didn't like handing over control for fear of a subpar job being done. He really overworked himself in the end and became super anxious and manic. He was grinding his teeth in parliament. 4 hours a night is not enough sleep. Hats off to him for trying his best at being PM. At least he's not a snotty, catholic, school boy bully like Tony Abbott.

From all personal accounts of the man I have heard he is much as this video suggests. It is the power of public charm and charisma and it is omitted from the public. The trouble is many have a very devout belief and trust in the assumptions that they make of some one early on and it is hard to change or challenge those beliefs.

The Australian people want an end to this period of Labor government to come as soon as possible. Any party that has had as much leadership instability and policy failure as the Rudd/Gillard governments’ must not under any circumstances be re-elected. Labor is presenting a united front solely for this election. In government the instability will begin again in earnest. What is needed to restore credibility in Australia’s government is to elect Tony Abbott with a thumping majority in parliament.

Keven Rudd isn’t up to the challenge of running a country. We know this from his track record; in 2007 he campaigned on a tough, “turn back the boats” position but in office he said the Pacific Solution was wrong. Now he admits he was wrong. In 2007 he called himself an economic conservative, but then saddled the country with $300bn debt. And today Bowen is promising to return the budget to surplus in three years and thinks we’re going to fall for that one again.

2. i might add , the minimum for any party politic should be to - A. remember that politicians work for the benefit of Australia and Australians, not to further party or union agendas. B. full integrity and honesty with the people is the minimum requirement. For Australians to change the behavior of this rabble they need to not be bribed and when a party is misleading, vote them out in a landslide, or we will continue to have the worst government that we probably deserve.
