Kody has a distorted definition of loyalty- where was his loyalty when he conned Meri into a divorce, when Isabel had her back surgery, when Christine was in labor with Truly.Where was his loyalty when Janelle wanted to pay off the property and build her casita? Most especially, where was his loyalty when he neglected his previous 3 wives in favor of wife #4?

There were two things that stood out to me in this: 1. Kody was never really in love with these women, and he simply saw this lifestyle as a way to be unfaithful to his wives and the wives somehow find his infidelity as spiritually acceptable. He gets bored easily and has the attention span of a gnat. 2. Kody cannot accept responsibility for any of his failures. This lifestyle allows him to never face consequences, never work on any issues, never deal with the unpleasantness in life such as bill paying, raising kids, arguing with a wife, etc. When he decides someone is trying to make him accountable for ANYTHING, he simply has to fling his hair, walk out the door with a flourish, and allow the "misbehaving" wife to stew at home and think about her failures, as she imagines him in the arms of another wife receiving gentle kisses and back rubs as he unloads about how awful the other wife has been to him. More often than not, the errant wife will finally take full blame for Kody's actions and apologize to him for her "bad behavior." What a way for a narcissist to never have to look in the mirror and see who he really is.

Something to keep in mind - about 10 years ago scientists completed a 15 year study of urban coyotes in the Chicago area. They expected to find considerable opportunistic infidelity, basically, they expected mated pairs to covertly cheat to increase gene diversity. The reality they found was the absolute opposite, the only pair raising offspring not directly related to both was a mated pair that was raising a sibling’s young. Something had happened to both adults and the sibling coyote took in his nieces and nephews to raise with his mate. When one elderly coyote lost his mate of 10 years, he left his den to one of his grown children, moved out of the area and formed a relationship with a widowed female coyote. The level of dedication to family surprised the researchers and demonstrated how close coyotes remain with their children and siblings, even later in life. Coyotes cannot raise their young as single parents, the survival rate of the pups is minuscule, both a mother and father are needed to safely bring a litter to maturity. Sad that a male coyote better grasps paternal responsibility than Cody is able to.

I read a book years ago, (Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat,) a naturalist who went off into the wild to study wolves. One event he observed was that when a female died, her widowed mate apparently negotiated an adoption with another male, whose mate was lactating. The two males carried all the babies to the other den to be nurtured by the female. That was the story as I remember it. I might have the details wrong as I read it in the 1970s (it was first published in the 60's)

@@judybentley4666 narcissistic personality disorder often co-exists with ADHD or other cognitive defects, but many narcissistic personality disorder patients are perfectly normal cognitively. Some of them even out-smart in the society. The origin of NPD could usually be contributed to terrible family environment in which children are grown up. Kody, in my opinion, is a typical example. He has a very cruel and perhaps also narcissistic father and a mother who suffers in the environment but does not protect her children. He has serious daddy issues (and also admitted once) and is very insecure about his masculinity--these indicate severe childhood trauma and emotional neglect. People become narcissistic because they cannot get secure attachment and necessary emotional needs satisfied. These people's true self often stop to develop at teenager years (in some severe cases even at early childhood), and all the manipulative and harmful tactics are mostly used to protect their fragile self. Narcissists truly feel they are the most miserable and unhappy people in the world and it's all other people's faults.

Kody never starts from the foundation of the problems - the way he treated his wives who stayed with him through abject poverty. Even if he fell in love with Robyn and felt his feelings towards the others changed, he could have ended those other unions in more humane ways. He wanted them to sit there, and sacrificed the rest of their lives to make him look good, to spend their money, etc. He is heartless and cruel. For Kody, loyalty is: to always agree with him, even when he is wrong. Other's opinions and feelings don't matter. He is way too immature, narcissistic, and obtuse.

I think the timing of Robyn coming into the family is interesting. Kody and his other wives had been married about 15 years and the oldest kids were teenagers. After 15 years of marriage the newness has somewhat worn off and people have gained maturity and aren't as likely to gloss over things that bother them. The kids are beginning to have their owns thoughts and opinions and are beginning to see their parents with less adoration and more understanding that the parents are just people, and people they don't always agree with and whose behavior they don't always approve of. I think things would have been different if Robyn had come into the family when there was only, say seven or eight years of marriage between Kody and the other wives. I think Kody was trying to recreate that feeling of adoration he once had through a younger wife and more children. I also think Kody uses "the family" as an excuse for his behavior. For example, on the anniversary trip he and Christine took with their therapist, I don't believe he misunderstood the rock building exercise. He used the "big family picture" as a barrier to having a meaningful experience with Christine. He used Covid to distance himself from family members who had differing opinions with him or who gave push back to his rules. He used Ariella's inability to be without Kody more than one night as the reason he couldn't accompany Isabel to her surgery. It seems that to Kody loyalty equals adoration/agreeing with him.

From what I've seen, it's seldom genuinely about the faith I have come to believe that many individuals are drawn to a particular faith tradition because it supports their internal personalities or desires. Domineering, abusive men resonate with faiths that support patriarchy. Violent men are drawn to fundamentalist groups that supports holy crusades, war behaviors, physically enforced theocracy, and literally interpretations of old testament punishments. I also think some women are drawn towards these faith traditions as well. Perhaps the lure of having parental and family relationships with their children for all eternity, often the desire for support in being a SAHM. I think it's often more a matter of the individuals choosing a faith culture that supports the drives and desires they already have.

Started with the fact that she was in the rotation before they were married, the wedding dress mess, she knew she was going to have Kody pick the dress, but pretended that it was a bonding experience for the ladies. The Honeymoon, I know the tab was picked up by TLC, but they could have said no to 11 days, and opted for a shorter time period, especially since Christine had recently given birth, and Kody Robyn both claim that he cannot be away from his younger children for long periods of time.

I think the therapist probably said that his wives wouldn't have been any happier with his behavior or with him as a husband even outside of polygamy. That his performance as a husband was the problem, not polygamy or something along those lines. But of course Kody won't hear it like that.

Dr. C - very interesting analysis. The only thing I would add to your comments is the background concerning how Robyn came into the family has shifted over time. Was she the hot "Diesel jeans" model who had her pick of the entire polygamist community (divorced woman with 3 kids and a lot of debt, no career, no real education), or did she come hat in hand asking to join Kody's family? I think the truth is that from the beginning when they met one another, they became monogamists who were willing to pretend to be polygamists to make money on reality TV...they may not have clued the other 3 wives in on that, but that's how it's turned out.

I just saw a clip he was talking about Janelle and he said he wanted to reconcile and she did not, and he was disappointed because that's not what she promised or what she agreed to when she came into polygamy. Like WTF. He did the same to Meri and didn't care about his promise and he basically ran Christine off. A really he ran them all off including Janelle. Then he also had the nerve to say, maybe he will try again to get with Janelle and take it serious this time. He's an a$$. He also wrote his sister off for daring to criticize him. He labeled her as Not Loyal. He is the worst🙄🤦

Was it last season’s “anniversary lunch” where Janelle was told by Kody that they were pretty much only friends and didn’t have a real marriage? And now he wants to reconcile…what exactly? The only thing he wants back is her monetary contributions to “the family” and to keep her away from Christine because everything that has ever happened to him is clearly all Christine’s fault 🙄 Christine, in my opinion, was brave to leave, and Kody blames her for showing others that there is indeed a life without Kody.

Meri - Meri has mentioned in the past how she and Kody were the ones that started their family. I think for her to emotionally leave is terrifying for her. She has these selective blind spots when it comes to Kody and just plain Martyrdom in general. Like you said today - the women believe suffering brings them closer to god. I think this has to do a lot to with Robyn’s victim mentality as well. Martyrs. In the beginning only meri knew kody was courting Robyn. Meri had said on one episode that she was more jealous of christine coming into the family then she was of Janelle because K and Christine had an emotional relationship. I always felt Meri encouraged Kody to marry Robyn to gain favor with him BUT also to slight Christine. K and Meris relationship was difficult at the time and I think she wanted Christine to know what it felt like to bring in a new wife.

Despite 3 of 4 wives leaving him, and the majority of his children refusing to talk to him, it’s quite interesting he doesn’t have the ability to see anything he did as contributing to the mess he’s in. He has come up with many theories - it’s because of Covid, because Christine didn’t like polygamy, because Robyn wasn’t accepted by the family, and because of the TV show - but not once has he said the truth - that he fell madly in love with Robyn and managed to carry on an affair with her for 12 years while slowly ignoring his other families more. If he’d admit it, and say he should have admitted it 12 years ago, it would have saved the wives a lot of pain, and could have possibly allowed him to continue his relationships with the kids.

It’s my understanding that Robyn only wanted Kody because everyone was aware that TLC would be putting out the Sister Wives show. She needed money and a husband, even if Meri had introduced them, hell I don’t even know the truth of this program anymore - I really believe TLC has done a huge disservice to women who are stuck in polygamy. I’m a descendant of an old LDS family. I was told that my gr great grandmother ended up drinking herself to death, and this was right after the Federal govt came in, sentenced the polygamist men to prison and were subsequently ordered to legally marry the woman with the youngest children upon their release. People say stop watching the show. Yeah that’s on me, I just want TLC to pull the plug on this little man’s dishonest platforms, which are ever changing and very tiring.

1) I could see a therapist asking Kody (after one of his patented remarks) Do you honestly believe that they wouldn’t be happier outside of this marriage than they are now within it? I can see based on his warped listening/understanding skills how he would twist this to his fit into his universe. 2) Janelle and Christine got only a 2-3 day honeymoon and like you pointed out were more like road trips, no plan no romance involved. 3) Big point: Kody, Meri and Robyn deceived Janelle and Christine by hiding Kody’s initial courting of Robyn from them. After always assuring them (and stating it on the show) that unless all wives agreed before hand, he would not court another woman. 4) Janelle and Christine had not kissed Kody prior to their spiritual marriage, in accordance with their ‘church’s’ rules. Not only did Robyn and Kody kiss prior to their marriage , but Robyn ran after Kody to kiss him as he was on his way to the hospital for Truly’s birth. There are many more instances, but I’ve run on too long now.

21:25 I like the new intro. Good segment today. Another reason that the audience turned against Robyn was the demand for an 11day honeymoon, while Christine was caring for a newborn. Even though I suspect Kody pushed for the long honeymoon along with Robyn, it had to be extremely depressing trying to care for a newborn and five other kids, while your husband is having s$$ with a new young woman and having a great time. Sorry Kody, that broke the audience and turned them against you.

He never should have put her on a that kind of pedestal over the others. But truthfully he has allowed her to do a lot that is just for her, and infringes on the others. In my opinion, Kody is so enveloped by his “ME” mentality, that he is not capable of even beginning to relate to the way others feel, or why they feel that way. He is the poster child for dysfunction. That has imploded his relationships with three of his wives, and will, I believe, eventually implode his relationship with Robyn too. He simply is not capable of looking beyond his “ME” view of the world, and that will not work in so far as long term relationships go.

If you go back and watch the old episodes they treated him very well and clearly respected him. His relationship with Meri was strained by her insecurities. She did not enter into her marriage with Kody as polygamous, that came later and I think it was hard on her. In recent seasons, the wives complaints were that he wasn't 'present' on the days he was in their homes. For goodness sake he only spent so many days per month with them and he completely left Christine's bed. The other three wives got little from him and when they complained he turned it around on them, blaming them. I think he ran Meri, Christine and Janelle off because he found what he wanted in Robyn. But like a jerk he couldn't own up to wanting his freedom, he wanted them to chose to leave.

I think Robyn is good at feeding Kody's ego. I think SHE told him she had numerous offers of marriage. She was making herself look more desirable to him. Almost, like when you're a child and you aren't interested in a toy until another child is playing with it. Kody said on the show that initially Robyn gave him the "ick" factor. So, i dont believe he was that into her until she somehow convinced him she was a hot commodity.

Interestingly Robyn - the “hot Diesel Jeans model” wanted to get into Kody’s family because she’d heard rumours that they would be getting a TV show. So she didn’t marry Kody so much because he was the best choice of a husband and had a great family, but because she was a big old narcissist like him, and wanted fame and fortune. Today with her weight gain, thyroid issues (her big swollen neck) and scary eyebrows, I doubt many men would fight over her.
