When you said that there are people who don't believe in HIV, I cried a lot, I'm a 57 year old man, who lived in the 80's, I saw many of my friends die of AIDS. traumatized until today. a lonely death with a lot of shame. I feel sorry for these people for not knowing the truth

The people who do not believe in the virus is living life through their own ignorance. But the amount of people that believe that is so small then you shouldn’t allow their ignorance to upset you. AIDS is a horrible disease and no one deserves to suffer from it. In the 80s and 90s so many talented people suffered from a debt that was way too early. The best thing you can do is rest a sure that you know the truth and they do not. Stay strong and positive

Omg so sorry for that, it’s really sad! I have hiv and luckily I found out right in the initial acute phase, so I’ve never had my immunity depleted, not even close. Recently a friend of mine who already knew about my condition almost died because of neglecting the signs of his weakened health and for rarely getting tested for stds. When he was admitted at the emergency his cd4+ lymphocytes were close to 0 and I met him after some time and a few initial treatments, when he came to my city for a first appointment with a specialist so to initiate the antiviral treatment. It was really difficult to see him totally swollen yet very thin, strangely sick of the stomach and upset, bloated, taking a lot of pills to defeat the opportunistic infections and asking me if I thought he would die. I knew he could get better, but still there was actual risk of death with such bad immune figures. I cried alone, took care of him, he chose to live and in few days surprisingly he was a bit better and could go back to his town and work. He’s fine now, still a low cd4 count but feeling well, although at the time it was painfully scary. So I feel it must be tough for you and your husband to remember your stepson’s last months, his last decisions and wonder “what if we did or said” kind of stuff but it really wasn’t up to you to choose… For we as individuals have this right to choose, he made up his mind and that’s probably because somehow he knew what would happen next and felt there would be no dignity in dying slowly on a bed or being a lifeless unresponsive body supported by machines right before your eyes. I think in such situation the outcomes are just for the best, as much more suffering could be the result if something was done differently. May the creator help you both in finding peace in acceptance, and by knowing he did what he felt was best, even though it can’t seem reasonable, maybe not yet. Best wishes.

Minor correction, but Kaposi's sarcoma, a deadly cancer, is NOT caused by HIV. Both Kaposi's Sarcoma and Burkitt's lymphoma are common in AIDS patients and caused by different viruses (Kaposi's sarcoma herpesvirus and Epstein Barr Virus, resp.). By depleting the immune system, HIV eliminates its ability to destroy cells that are mutated or infected by viruses in a process called immune surveillance. The scary part: you are all almost certainly already infected by one or both of these cancer causing viruses.

It’s really sad how we treat animals. Seems the root cause for a lot of human death & suffering starts here. But we never learn. One thing I’ve never understood…I grew up on the 80’s when AIDS was treated as the great unknown. Seems like all of a sudden the only way I find out how far we’ve come in the fight against it is from drug treatment commercials in the US. There were no huge celebrations within the gen pop when AIDS treatment had improved so significantly. I do not understand why. It used to be attempted murder to knowingly sleep with someone without disclosure. Now new drugs and undetectability seem to have changed this completely. Anyone who knows, interested, please write back

Your beautiful voice is proper ASMR I tells yuh… thanks for this very informative video…. I worked as a volunteer in the late 90s at a sexual health clinic and my main role was to support and befriend HIV sufferers… these individuals had no one as at that time HIV was truly feared and even the doctors and nurses are certain hospitals wouldn’t go near or want to touch these patients… I would go visit them in hospital and for some individuals it was clear they were not going survive the illness… I’d bring them things to give them some comfort ie snacks fruit reading material and such then I’d sit with them for a while hold their hand and just be a friend to them… some of them looked so frightened and the stigma they faced from hospital staff was so tragic… I’m glad we know better and more info on this terrifying virus… I feel huge empathy for all the sufferers of HIV and hope that one day a cure that suits all will be discovered…

I truly appreciate your insight and knowledge on the topic of HIV. I was very curious to know how and when SIV crossed (Zoonosis) and mutated to HIV. Thank you for that answer. Now I'm even more courious about the ancestry of this Lentivirus. I wonder when SIV Zoonosis to primates and from what species? Primates are believed to have existed for 50 to 55 million years. It is amazing that the version of this Lentivirus (HIV) is just 100 years old, since Homo sapiens have been existing for 330 000 years. I am also wondering if you consider viruses, like HIV, to be alive? Where does HIV fit in the definition of life?
@Sciencerely
@Sciencerely 3 жыл бұрын
I'm glad that you enjoyed the video! I just read more about the ancestors of SIVs. SIV particles have been observed in many different monkeys/apes. However, they mostly do not cause any symptoms which is important as these SIV forms can evolve with their host for a long time with a lower risk to become exist. When we want to know how old a virus is we can compare how many mutations have occurred between two viruses. If we know how rapidly the virus mutates in general, then we can calculate when the last ancestor between both viruses was present. What also helps is if we detect viruses in organisms which have been isolated from other similar species. SIV has been detected on Bioko island which helps scientists to conclude that SIV is at least 32.000 years old. Lentiviruses were also detected in gray mouse lemurs and might therefore be at least several million years old since Madagascar and Africa have been isolated from one another for at least 14 million years. It's no coincidence that so many human-specific bacteria/viruses have evolved in the past centuries as we have become way more people who live closely together - that might explain why HIV formed in the 20th century. Regarding your second question I can only suggest you to read "What is life?" by Paul Nurse. I once covered a video based on his book and he also refers to another book by Erwin Schroedinger. I don't want to spoiler you too much if you want to read the book or watch the video but viruses can or cannot be considered alive depending on if you are a physicist/biochemist or biologist. Hope that answers your questions! Here are two related publications: "Island biogeography reveals the deep history of SIV" "A transitional endogenous lentivirus from the genome of a basal primate and implications for lentivirus evolution"

I have it, I know many who also have it and despite the apprehensions related to it we’re going fine, as long as we have free treatment from our public health system (at least in my country people are living more and healthier, at least the ones who stick to the treatment). Viruses in general are tricky, but hiv is trickier, waaay trickier…

HIV probably started in Africa. If there is any valid documentation that HIV was seen in the 1920s I’d like to see it. Immunodeficiency itself is not HIV. I would like to see valid documentation of cases before the 1950s outside of Africa. Yes I agree this may be very difficult to find. But making claims about early HIV before the 1950s outside of Africa…. I’d like to see it

Siv is over 10 million years old. The hiv virus would have been in close contact with homosapiens as apes carry the genes from a virus that we dont. The jump didnt happen spontaneously from ape to human, that took thousands of years until a specific gene mutation in the virus (after constant exposure to human cells). The rna replacement infection type is also not recent in terms of modern humans. Ofc we will never know the actual origin, just that it was first documented in Africa and spread to the world.

Only a small % of people have breakouts and skin lesions.... Everyone is studying to understand why people have breakouts.. Many people say they feel a tingling in thier lips... Several days earlier from breakout... They say using lemons or limes like lipstick will prevent breakouts.....

Its very interesting that suddenly exploded in the 70s after being around supposedly since 1920s. I dont believe it was made in a lab because it took health organizations globally years to figure it out. I grew up in the south and I vividly recall it being called the wraith of god. I was just a kid but i was at the north Carolina school of the arts and it was a crazy time. The one thing that i wish would be more, i dunno..explained is this 10 year thing. Yes, in some people it can take that long but it can also be only 4 years...to just stick to 10 years i feel is a disservice some how. I remember seeing people with very low body weight and KS spots. It was terrible and terrifying. It also angers me we have meds that are so strong that it can reduce the virus to non detectable levals and yet it can not globally be knocked out. In Germany they have cured multiple people. Dont get me wrong. Im extremely greatfull for the (life boat drugs). But my god we are so close and my view we already are there. I lost friends to this..im 50 years old now, i was 8 when (grid) was new...there's no excuse for ignorance on this. It kills no matter who you are your background...in USA we have access to medications. But in 3rd world countries no. Its still heartbreaking.

FINALLY, a sensible video on the origins of HIV. I read of this in "Spillover" and it makes sense. We know zoonoses exist--we're dealing with one right now. It's my understanding that the virus made the jump to a human around 1908. Given its long incubation period before symptoms show, the date c.1920 that you mention in this video does fit. Thank you for uploading sense in place of the usual misinformation and conspiracy theory.

I never knew anything about the importance of gut bacteria balance and how it helped the immune system. The core immune system happens to be in the gut. Trust me, i had no damn clue until someone educated me 12 years ago. I learned that the most harmful thing to the gut is antibiotics since they not only kill the harmful bacteria that's causing the infection, but it also kills the beneficial bacteria.. Pharmaceutical meds and vaccines aren't natural.. Pills do more harm than good.. I am not a healthy person. I am overweight, i drink and smoke. What i don't do are pharmaceutical 💊 or vaccines.. I am not afraid to get sick.. When i get sick i try to eat healthier and cut back on alcohol.. I recover. My mother lived on numerous prescription meds. Always on antibiotics. Eventually developed kidney failure. In the end she died from sepsis... Death by medicine.. I would have never believed what I am telling you unless i didn't apply what i learned.. Please watch this very informative video on Candida.. The day that i met a very astute individual, i was told to watch this.. Plus i had a bacterial infection that worsened while on antibiotics.. @@bradcampbell5766 Sure. Look at india for example. During the big covid wave the healthcare system collapsed. They gave patients cortison, which is good because your cytokines have a tendency to fry your body otherwise. The problem was that hey couldnt afford the very expensive anti fungal medications which is a necessity since you weaken the immune system. As a consequence you had a ton of cases with very heavy fungal infections, often lethal. But those people still had a normal microbiome, antibiotics arent part of the treatment for covid. In fact in india the majority of people have a way better microbiome than in western countries. And yes you can literally look at the fungus under a microscope. And the virus, there are even pictures of it (electron microscope), not to mention that a qPCR can prove it as well.
