Like many other shows, the writers come in and screw up a popular format. People liked watching Rick and his crew transform unique items and bring them back to brand new condition. It was interesting to watch and their work was impressive. Then the writers come in and say we need to write a bunch of story lines for this show. We need to write in drama and conflicts between the characters because that’s what we think people want to see. Nope. We wanted to see them do restorations. You can keep your fake drama stories that are only meant to justify writers being attached to the show.

Many years ago before American restoration. Ricks business restored a original red Ryder wagon i got in an auction. He was referred by a place in PA. I mailed it out. It came back a few months later fully restored and with a refund and letter explaining it didn't take as long as projected and he's returning the balance. That's honesty. I sent a few small things there since. Amazing amazing work, a bit expensive but the quality of workmanship is there.

I can debunk the theory that Rick’s restorations was not a real business. The first location originally filmed at was a home in pool in a front and the sharps and the paint bays were originally stables. It was on an acre and a half out on North John’s. When it comes to the refurbished antique world, such as cars, coke machines, and the list goes on…. Most of the time it makes more financial sense to buy an item that has been restored versus having an item restored. People have to understand that individuals who are paying for a restoration are not only paying for that specific item to be given life again, but are also preserving family history or personal memories, which is why they are willing to pay more for an item than what it is actually worth. Skilled labor is not cheap. Rick’s restorations did great work and Rick was fun to watch. He is a true American, which is why the show was famous around the world.
@steveclark..2 жыл бұрын
So true, nothing is that cheap anymore, parts alone for my 80's motorcycle can add up, I couldn't afford to pay someone else to work on it. Some home/hobby builders of my make & model do make me laugh though, when they do decide to put the bike up for sale, the price is so high, it's like they have added all the hours/time that they have put into it.

I liked this show. It was a lot of fun to watch the restorations and I was always amazed how much money people were willing to throw at Rick to get stuff restored. My theory for why the show was cancelled is a lot simpler and more than likely closer to what happened. Rick asked " Pay me more money per episode, please." The shows producers said" nope "; we don't need Rick. Rick said " Good luck with that" and the rest is history.

I think you're right on the money. Although I believe that Rick just plain old got greedy. Some of the quotes he was giving people were astronomical. I watched one where a gentleman came in and wanted to get his father's antique gas saw restored. It was a small item maybe a foot by two at best and Rick quoted him fourty five hundred dollars for the job. Fourty five hundred. That's beyond ridiculous and the guy ended up walking away. Smart man.
@peterlucas29982 жыл бұрын
Tell me about, one item sticks out for me was an art deco kids tricycle with fully valanced wheels, think Indian motorcycle. It was not in bad shape. Needed paint and chrome work plus new rubber on the wheels. Rick quoted some insane number and the guy just paid it. I just shook my head and laughed .

So many times, the "wise TV guys" decide to "tweak" a series and kill the series. A few times the tweaks are to head off a ratings slide, but too often its because the network decides to show the actors up. It rarely seems to work like the network expects. But network bosses are among the most out-of-touch rich people on the planet. And they don't bither to gather data, they just axe shows and move the survivors around based on personal preferences, forgetting that they are running a business.

Yeah some stuff seemed high but it takes a lot of time if you want to pound dents out of metal and not just fill it in with bondo, hand painted lettering. Then finding original parts you might need you gotta pay ur employee to find the parts, they might need to drive far to get them and every hour ur employee is working even if they are on the internet searching for a part you have to charge the customer for that time. It’s very expensive to run a business much more then anyone would think. As a business owner myself in New York If you pay someone 20 bucks an hour it costs the business close to 25 bucks an hour to pay them 20 by the time you pay for Insurance’s, pay roll company fees and that doesn’t even include benefits like health insurance or retirement plans. So many stupid bills come up that you would never even think of. I just had to pay my yearly insurance audit fee $800 and some stupid yearly payroll fee $500 that’s 1300 bucks this week for literally nothing everyone has their hands out when u own a business. You can have a great month made a ton of money then an expensive piece of equipment breaks down and now all the money you made last month is paying for that equipment, then a few months later u open the shop up and ur air compressor breaks down there goes a few more grand, then the next year you need to put a roof on ur building it just doesn’t stop. People see all the money coming into a business but don’t understand what it really costs to run it. My business is a auto repair shop, it’s just me and one employee and sometimes I will have a part time guy helping out so it’s a small business and only been open just over 2 years. I’ve had a month where I profited 16,000 bucks but the 3 months prior I broke even every month, then the next month was slow so it pretty much evens itself out and I can’t pay myself the 16k profit because I don’t know what’s going to happen so I need to keep the money in the business account and just pay myself the minimum that I need. Many business owners that aren’t good with business will pay themselves all the profits them make when times are good then when the slow season comes they don’t have enough money to keep the business open or something comes up. I had an employee complain to me that I should have paid him more the one month that I made a lot of money so I told him what about the 3 months where we made nothing? When the country shut down I was paying you out of my personal pocket because the business barely made enough money to pay rent and bills so when that happens should I pay you less money? I paid you the same money when then shop wasn’t making anything you were getting paid to sit in a chair waiting for the phone to ring or a customer to walk in the door then we have a good month that made me catch up financially and I should pay you more because we actually had to work? Get out of here. I could have laid him off and in the situation he was in he wouldn’t have gotten unemployment so he would have made no money, I didn’t even need him working for me because there was nothing to do but I felt bad that he wouldn’t get unemployment so I kept him employed which nobody would have done it was a bad decision on my part to pay an employee when I didn’t need him, had I laid him off my shop would have stayed profitable not much but would have. But customers and employees for the most part just don’t understand any of this they just think of ur a business owner ur rich and for the most part that’s just not true many of us make a regular amount of money, I made more money working for someone because it takes years to get the business to the point it’s making real money plus I’m putting a lot of money back into the business buying equipment and what not. And for what it’s worth when a business owner has a business that is making some good money they should be making good money because of everything they had to deal with getting to that point all the sacrifices they made to get to that point. People think the word profit is a dirty word for business owners it’s so annoying I hate when people talk down about their boss behind their backs saying stuff like they got it easy and make so much money yeah well if you want to do that you can too. Took me many years of basically working 2 full time jobs at once saving money living like I had no money to be able to have enough money to open a business and I had to do this twice because my first business I was scammed and lost a lot of money, plus all the years I spent learning what I need to know. For 5 years all my friends were going out all the time having a great time, everyone was always asking my why I don’t go out anymore. Then I open a business and some friends say stupid comments and I tell them yeah you remember that 5 plus years when I never went out partying with you guys? Well that’s how I got this business! I didn’t have a rich family member or anything I had to make it happen for myself. Lots of people think it’s impossible to be able to save up the money I had to and many others have had to so they can open their business but it’s not you just have to have the drive to do it. Everyone wants the easy way out well it’s not easy! The easy way out is to just work for someone ur entire life and not have to worry about anything.

@@peanutbutterisfu I had a lawn service and the only year I was full time was 1994. People in church were congratulating me and talking to me like I was making good money or even rich. I was telling them “no, I’m barely keeping up with my bills. I have a lot of competition in this town and the average in town lawn goes for about $17 per mowing”. The episode I remember him quoting a woman $5,000 to restore a pedal car. It was a rather small one very rounded shape with no doors. So there’s a shell, 4 wheels, axle, 2 pedals, 2 connector rods, steering wheel and front steering system. Maybe the writers told him to quote $5,000 and told her to agree? I saw in another video that the network dropped him after complaints from his customers that he was paid and not finishing his work. People can complain to state attorney general offices and if a business gets enough complaints that are not resolved they get shut down.

There is something seemingly threatening to upper management with a process that is successful, especially if they did not dream it up. The reaction is: kill it. Should bring it back. No frills just good old restorations.

To me, the real mystery was why season 7 was the way it was. Love from the Philippines.

I liked the show when it was Rick's Restoration! When it switched names and went to American Restoration and had different companies I didn't like that and quit watching it. I wish they would bring back Rick's Restoration and I would watch it again!

I really enjoy the big reveals of old stuff young people have never seen before or bringing back a childhood item. Please bring it back to it's former glory.

It started well for me with the spin off from Pawn Stars. I was fascinated at how things that looked like scrap could be restored. It developed into silly stories revolving around Rick's son and his brotheer and very little restoration being filmed. It did not hold my attention for long.

Just from my little spot in North Wales, I loved watching this show. Just for the Americana that turned up on each episode. Was a great way for me to learn about American culture, that I could not experience first hand by visiting. Great video..

This video completely missed the fact that Rick moved to a new location here in Las Vegas in 2015 before shutting down again in 2019 to pursue his newest endeavor. His son Tyler has his own hot rod building shop now. I know this because I delivered parts and equipment to both of them for years before I switched shipping contracts with my Truck.

I would think without the backing of a major network Rick just wasn't able to afford the overhead to ran/ staff his business. When business was slow and had to scale down his operation by laying of most of the staff. To eventually having to close up his shop. I was a fan of the show when it was on the air with the Rick Dale crew.

I'm glad I saw this video because I was without a clue as to where one of my favorite shows went. I just tuned in one day to watch and a whole new crew were on. Still don't have all the answers but it's more than I had before seeing this. Thank you.

The real possible reason the show was cancelled was because if his wife Kelly. Really, cannot prove it, however I'm really, really good personalities and attitudes. Spent my entire carrier in sales, business to business and business to induvial (one example of a business to induvial would be working for Schwan's home services, the other example would be selling both super high-end cars to selling new Fords) Anyway, if one was to pay attention to Kelly, it was obvious she had a attitude, probably got the producers face many times. I do think Rick truly loves Kelly and seemed easygoing and would put-up with her attitude (s) , most likely also had a big head as well.

That's the whole problem! At one time things were made to be fixed. Little mom and pop fixit or repair shops were once a cottage industry that dotted the landscape.
