It sounds highly plausible, there is something about Voldemort that already attracted the phoenix feather once, so maybe it is this same presence that attracted the second feather? From the sounds of it, phoenixes don't shed many feathers that can be used in wandcores, so it might have been prophecy... The feathers of Fawkes would always choose Voldemort and if Voldemort wouldn't have attacked Harry and infused him with part of his soul by accident, the wand would have remained ownerless for eternity (after all, it likely remained ownerless for more than 50 years). As only one wizard was worthy of the core, nobody could claim it. Unless they were Voldemort's equal. Voldemort marked Harry as his equal, by making him part Voldemort by accident so the wand would be attracted. It also would fullfill the "marking of an equal" in the prophecy even better. Voldemort made Harry his equal enabling to gain the loyality of a wand so equal to his own... Which in turn worked with the rest of prophecy as Harry was the only one who was able to withstand Voldemort and with cores of equal origin, it made Voldemorts wand less effective to Harry. But there is also something else, over the years, Harry did tame the wand and gained its loyality, mostly due to Harry's own loyality to his wand, compared to Voldemort. There is an interesting difference between how Harry and Voldemort treated their wand. Once Voldemort realized that his wand was less effective against Harry, he abandoned it. The first time, Harry's wand retalliated against Voldemort using a different wand, by giving him a taste of the magic he used to produce with the brother wand and later Voldemort tried to tame the Elder Wand, over his own wand. Harry however could never abandon his wand. Even as the rightful owner of the Elder Wand, he only wanted to be able to use the wand he had bought from Ollivander. He used the most powerful wand in the world to repair his old one, who couldn't be fixed by another wand. Harry showed loyality to the wand to such a degree that it no longer mattered that he no longer had a piece of Voldemort in him, the wand was now fully loyal to him.

Independently of the feather, Fawkes assisted Harry in the chamber of secrets. There was an affinity between Fawkes and Harry and, on the surface, it was a reward for Harry defending Dumbledore, but it could run deeper than that. Harry had to arise from the ashes of his early abusive childhood and also had to rise again after being struck down by Voldemorte in the forest in the deathly hallows. Fawkes likely saw a kindred spirit within Harry and his destiny.

Harry's individual greatness is constantly at odds with his connection to Voldemort. In the beginning, one could say Harry was only significant because he was "The Boy Who Lived"; but after finishing the story, one could hardly say that Harry was not great of his own accord. He mastered multiple spells, conquered many enemies, and showed bravery unmatched by any other at his age. But above all, Harry gave love despite his life being filled with pain, death, and hate. It is this act alone that proved his greatness. When his love persevered against all the evils in the world, he achieved the pinnacle of character.

I think its a mistake to assume wands look for "good" or "bad" people. Ollivander is an extremely good example of a true neutral character. Yes he is terrified of Voldemort, but he also shows awe at Voldemorts power. And ultimately Ollivander is most interested in wands and their magic, no matter who the wands choose. Every bit of information he gets expands his knowledge. He is truly dedicated to his craft. Ollivander is in a way, a personification of what wands are. They are true neutral. They are a mystery how they work yes, but the wands themselves are drawn to specific types of personalities, strengths in magic and types of magic. They don't care about good or evil. If they did, wouldn't all evil characters never get a wand choosing them? Also the series talks again and again about how similar yet different Voldemort and Harry are. They are both orphans, they don't have real family, they have known cruelty, they both called Hogwarts home, and despite Harry's connections with Voldemort, he is truly a very powerful wizard, and it is reflective of his heritage and the spells he casts. So I think it's safe to say the wands chose the two of them due to the internal characteristics that make up the young boys, and the potential they have. Not necessarily based of any potential to be good or evil, but more so based off personalities and the magical powers within themselves.

@IshayuG
@IshayuG 2 жыл бұрын
The book is very explicit about this. When Voldemort tried to kill Harry he made Harry the one to fulfill the prophecy that would lead to his doom. Had he chosen another, such as Neville, that person would be the one to fulfill the prophecy and therefore, most likely, have had the phoenix feather want - and Harry, meanwhile, would probably have had a wand similar to that of his father or mother. Given that, it is very clear that the wand chose Harry because it senses Tom Riddle, but it is also clear that, by the end of the books, the wand had long since changed its allegiance from Tom Riddle to Harry himself, as it embraces him fully after being repaired with the Elder Wand despite the fact that Voldemort's Horcrux was no longer in Harry; why? Because Harry proved himself great in his trials against Voldemort, earning the wand's respect if he hadn't it already.

I have always figured that the reason why the wand choose Harry was because He lived through the killing curse cast from Voldemorts wand. As the two wands are brothers, Harry’s wand chose him because he bested Voldemort. Following the wand lore of the elder wand, that wand Aligned itself to Harry.

I would agree. The vid was very good but in a way contradicted itself. He said that as Voldemort the wand would not have chosen him. It chose him as Tom Riddle for his potential and power. The parasite in Harry was Voldemort not Tom Riddle. The wand would have sensed that Harry was touched by a powerful dark curse but was alive. It would have sensed power in him and potential as well. Harry is also descended from Ignotus Peverell so why wouldn't he be destined for great things? We know he's one of the prophecy choices, and becomes the Chosen one *because* voldy chose him and not Neville. Multiple times Harry performed magic that was above his age level. I really can't agree with the dark side of why this wand would have chosen him. He was the antithesis of voldemort. Good against evil. Selfless against selfish. Powerful and yeah, heroic. Ultimately, in this story good triumphs over evil, and that wouldn't have been possible if the wand chose Harry for wicked reasons.

My head cannon was that when Voldemort tried to kill him with the wand and failed, the magic kind of punished him for his hubris and in the same way Lily’s love protected Harry from Voldemort’s killing curse, his willingness to leave behind his humanity lead to his wand’s brother wanting to protect Harry from him. I know there’s no like evidence or anything for that but I always thought that the wand chose Harry because it knew it needed to protect him from its brother with the whole priori incantatem thing just cause it sounds cool

My theory has always been this: Phoenixes are detached from the mortal realm. it's said as much and confirmed by JK herself. Apart from the fact that Harry’s personality fit the type of wizard a Phoenix feather would choose, I think destiny played a role. The reason Voldemort went after Harry was because of the prophecy. So, perhaps the wand also sensed Harry’s role against Voldemort, and chose him knowing that when they finally battle it would be harder for Voldemort to harm Harry with his wand since the wands are brothers. If that makes sense.

What I want to know is, was Voldemort's wand always so sinister looking? It's hard to imagine some young orphan boy going into Ollivander's and then getting a wand. A wand that's looking so well, frankly, evil. I'm wondering if Voldemort's wand originally looked more "normal" and much like his own body slowly transformed into the more sinister looking wand as Voldemort performed ever more increasingly dark magic. Perhaps its a topic you could discuss in a video

Voldemort’s wand changed in appearance along with him when he made his Horcruxes. The more Horcruxes Voldemort made, the more his appearance changed. This is because making Horcruxes (as we know) split the soul apart and it had negative affects on Voldemort’s appearance because he’d split his soul so many times.

There are 2 major points against the idea that Harry Potter was only great because of the piece of Voldermort's soul inside him. 1. his mother is one of the greatest potioneers Slughorn ever had the privilege of teaching. and was both talented and POWERFUL with magic beyond potions. there's a reason Harry is attracted to Ginny. Just 1 single Reducto curse from Ginny brought down the Hall Of Prophecy. Lily Potter's sacrifice was powerful enough to protect Harry from Voldermort's Killing Curse. I think Harry is attracted to Ginny because her power is familiar to him (because Ginny's power is comparable to Lily's power). 2. he is a Potter. his father was excellent at Quidditch, but even more impressively... James became an Animagus without being guided thru the process by an Animagus... as a child! fully grown and fully trained adult wizards with Animagus guides have had terrible accidents when attempting to become Animagi. it's just that difficult. All of The Marauders were exceptionally powerful, not just because 3 of them became Animagi as children, but also because the 4 of them created the Marauder's Map together. That map is essentially on par with most ancient magical relics and icons. Extremely impressive. Harry and James Potter are NOT the only impressive Potters. Their last name has an origin. Linfred of Stinchcombe AKA "The Potterer" invented many medicinal potions including early versions of Skele-gro and Pepperup Potion. ...emphasis on regrowing bones back... Fleamont Potter, Harry's grandpa, was also a potterer and invented Sleekeazy's Hair Potion (sure, less important than a potion that regrows bones, but still impressive). Between Linfred "The Potterer", Fleamont Potter, and Lily Evans... I'm beginning to wonder if Harry would have been Outstanding at Potions even before getting the Half-Blood Prince's book if Snape had not mistreated him. Linfred's son, Hardwin Potter, married Iolanthe Peverell... ...the granddaughter of Ignotus Peverell, who either created The Cloak Of Invisibility (while there are other invisibility cloaks, all of them lose their ability over time... except this one), or received it from Death personified... after besting Death personified... the point of all this is that Harry has power and greatness from both his mom and his dad. remember that Voldemort can't produce a Patronus. Harry's fully formed and powerful Patronus (as a child!) is NOT because he has a piece of Voldermort's soul inside him. it's because he is the child of 2 very powerful magic users. all that being said... I do believe Fawkes' feather chose Harry because Voldemort chose Harry. If Voldemort has chosen Neville, then Fawkes' feather would have chosen Neville. but NOT because of the greatness that a piece of Voldemort's soul imbues... ...but because Phoenixes represent death and rebirth. Voldemort is death. the one he chooses to mark as his equal is rebirth... death's undoing... the Phoenix's first feather chose Tom Riddle... it did not choose Voldemort... the other feather chose Voldemort's undoing... to right the wrong... ...to bring life where Voldemort misused the first feather to bring death.
@Bruced82
@Bruced82 2 жыл бұрын
Harry was pretty talented in his own right, his teachers said so, and he was way above level with certain difficult spells like the patronus charm. The part of Voldemorts soul did probably play some part, but the phoenix wand stayed his, after Voldemorts defeat. I might also be that the very balance of magic was upset by Voldemorts abuse of (dark) magic and it put Harry and the prophecy into being to counteract, with things like the twinned wand cores and Harry being the polar opposite of Voldemort.

Even if Harry was only chosen because of the Horcrux, the wood plays a part. If both yew and holly are symbols of immortality, yew (Voldemort) is viewed as a symbol of doom and holly (Harry) as symbol of evergreen, everlasting life and rebirth. Add to the equation loyalty to Dumbledore. It would be interesting to know if both wands were twins made at the same time or if Harry's wand was made later on as a "counterevil" to its brother.

Remember Malfoy never had his wand choose him, his mom bought his wand for him. After Harry wrestled Malfoy's wand away it started serving Harry. The problem is Malfoy's wand had a unicorn hair string core and stay very loyal to their original owner yet it switched allegiances to Potter. Because that wand was never truly Malfoy's, it was Harry's from the very beginning. Now however Malfoy himself became a very talented wizard despite using a wand that was never truly his.

I think it’s just that the fact the phoenix feather where only 2 where made The difference is the wood and and length and flexibility I think the wands in question where always opposites One craved power and was more prone to choose someone who can change the world by any means hence the yew wood given its a wood that looks for someone over life and death and length being 13 meaning it looks for much character in someone As for Harry’s wand it was more humble more or less equal to its brother but didn’t seek power or care for it and choose someone who has a journey based on spiritual path and good intentions Hence the holly wood description, and the length being 11 inch means it was looking for someone of decent character And probably choose Harry cause it now knew what’s it’s brother did and sensed Harry was it’s target Choosing harry to protect him just as it would have if longbottom was though off as the chosen one instead Both would be set on a spiritual journey with good intentions and both had decent personalities It wouldn’t choose harry based on harry being a horcux given the other aspects of the wand suggest otherwise

You said that you believed older Tom/Voldy would not have been chosen. The part of Voldemort that is inside of Harry's scar wouldn't have been chosen by this logic. It could also mean that the Fawks that gave the core to Voldemort may have a different personality to the Fawks that gave to Harry.. Voldemort’s core was from Fawks who maybe valued power more than Harry’s core, and Harry’s core values love more… I hope I summoned it correctly…

We know that Nevil could have just as easily been "The chosen one" because he met all the same requirements of the prophesy. So if Tom had chosen Nevil then he still would have been defeated and I think that the wand that chose harry would have chosen him instead because the wand turned out to be a very important part of the whole puzzle. It follows then that yes, the wand likely was pulled to Harry only because of Tom's splintered soul embedded in him. I think though that it was likely attracted so it could help "the chosen one" to defeat the other wand and redeem the folly of the choice made by the other wand.

No, he wouldn't have defeated him because Voldemort wouldn't have given Neville's parents the option to survive. What really caused Voldemort to be defeated was Harry's mother's sacrifice. Snape asked Voldemort to spare her and because of that, Voldemort gave her the choice to survive but even so she chose to save her son's life, this protected Harry and caused the killing curse to ricochet. Voldemort had no reason to spare anyone in Neville's family, so Neville would have died even if Voldemort had gone after him. The prophecy could only have referred to Harry.

People say this because harry thinks it in a moment of reflection and sadness.....but its DEFINITELY not true though. You're totally ignoring the fact of the ONLY thing that saved harry from the curse was the ancient love sacrifice magic from his mother when she refused to step aside and actively chose to give her own life for his. You're also forgetting about snape.......think for a second how crucial snape was to dumbledore, the resistance, and the success of dumbledores plan with harry. He was in love with lily, and the moment he learned of her murder (despite his begging for her to be spared) was the moment voldemort lost him forever. Snape gave dumbledore crucial intel, played the role of double agent and then later when voldy came back played the role of triple agent. He kept both harry and dumbledore alive at different points (think how he counteracted quirrell or saved dumbledore from the curse). He swapped griffindores sword out for a fake and guided harry to the real one to finish destroying horcruxes. He took the unbreakable vow to kill dumbledore in malfoys place and informed dumbledore of everything...which lead to the misinformation that voldy believed snape was master of the elder wand instead of draco....and on his death he provided harry with the final pieces of the puzzle to know what had to happen next for dumbledores plan to work (ie the same ancient sacrificial magic lily made for harry, harry had to make in the forrest, which was why harry was able to come back and why voldemorts magic was no longer as effective anymore.) Neville simply didnt have these circumstances surrounding him. Snape was not in love with alice. He was not begging for alice's life and vowing to destroy voldemort on her behalf...voldy was never even giving her the option of choosing to sacrifice herself because of that...there was no snape (his favourite) to ask this. Starting from the premise that the wand chose young Riddle but wouldn't have chosen adult Voldemort, you could speculate the wand served Voldemort less willingly than it had served Riddle. Then, suppose that when Voldemort tried to kill baby Harry, the wand sensed in Harry what had bonded it to Riddle in the beginning, and in a way facilitated the soul transfer that made Harry a horcrux, in a sense making Harry another young Tom?

It still wouldn't work as the part of tom soul in harry is still evil (which shown in Chamber of secret, that all of Tom souls was evil), so really it wasn't Tom the feather/wand sense but Harry himself, if we go by HP theory, Also HP theory forgot that kid Tom wasn't innocent as he started down the dark path in the orphanage, as he stole things, hurt people and things like that, so even if Dumbledore try to help Tom the boy was actually at the point of no return when they met. Remember Tom don't know love, as he wasn't born out of love but more like faux love as his mother use a love potion on his father, now the one soul of Voldemort that came close to know anything about love was the one in Harry and as we saw in the deathly Hollow, it was on the verge of death because it got hit with the killing curse, however it was also small and frail probably due to that fact it wasn't used to the amount of love that Harry have and had been given, after all it because of that same love that Voldemort couldn't possess Harry.

Here is my theory, I think the Phoenix wands are both good spirited initially, they saw in both Harry, and Voldemort wizards who would rise from ashes and achieve greatness, and have their name forever known however I think the wands wanted this to be for the greater good, but voldemorts wand slowly through corruption and dark magic seeked only power and due to a dog like loyalty (which phoenixes though independent seem very loyal as seen why they stick around Dumbledores) allowed corruption, while the brother seeked the same but had a loyalty to good that was not corrupted, if the wand favored Voldemort despite the horxcruz I don't think it would choose the boy who may one day defeat him, I believe Harry's wand never became corrupted such as riddles wand

I like the idea of Harry only being as great as he is because of Voldemort. That he isn't this inexplicably great-at-everything anime type protagonist, but that he was merely what he was because of his nemesis. It makes both Harry and Voldemort unique from other heroes and villains, Voldemort having put his own end in motion and being the root cause of what he so feared.

Honestly I always kinda had that theory in my head too. The only reason that the Phoenix feather wand chose Harry was because of the piece of Voldemort inside of him. I feel it goes back to the prophecy too. Like the wand chose him because Voldemort chose his family in a way. Which means if you ask me if Voldemort went after the Longbottoms instead and Neville’s mother did the same as Harry’s and sacrifice herself to save him… Neville would’ve lived and HE would have a the Phoenix core. In the end Like you said the only reason Harry or Neville would have been a huge deal is because of Tom Riddle.

Perhaps my theory is that the brother feather chose Harry because it sensed its wand was the best way Harry could duel with the other feather owner. So in a way, since the other feather was possessed by Voldemort, its Brother feather chose Harry because Harry's counterpart had its counterpart. That way the wand chose to help Harry be on equal playing field as much as it could

We learned of the prophecy & Voldemort’s soul inside Harry & that cemented my belief that Harry got the wand due to his connection to Voldemort. Your views that Phoenix chose both Voldemort and Harry because they were both exceptionally great wizards and would do amazing things and also the other view that it only picked Harry because a piece of Voldemort was inside of him I disagree…the real reason is because Phoenix knew the future in that Harry would need that phoenix feather in order to defeat Voldemort it protects him as they have the same core It chose Harry for a reason and that reason is to fight evil with good to defeat Voldemort by having the same wand core

I love this idea, and Fawkes affinity for Harry would even make sense. If he can sense Harry's devotion to Dumbledore, could if have been partially because of Harry's wand? Dumbledore himself kinda tells us the only reason Harry is important is because Voldy chose to believe the prophecy, and the prophecy does say that by marking Harry he will give Harry the tools to defend himself... So the wand would be one of those right?

I have a couple of theories for you. One has been said a few times in the past, but I've only seen short one liners about it. Voldemort, Snape and Harry are like the three brothers..... I would expand it to say they are not just like the Three brothers but ARE the decedents of the three brothers. Voldemort being the first brothers descendent, Snape being the Second Brothers Descendent, and Harry being the Thrid Brothers Descendent (As we already know he is do to the cloak being passed down through the generations of the thirds descendants).Look at how similar they are to the three brothers. First Brother and Voldemort are both Combative men, willing to go out of their way just to best someone that has slighted them in the past. Second Brother and Snape, Both lost their great love, lived on and eventually died thinking about their love, Why Snape asked Harry to look at him so he could look into Lilly's eyes as he died. Third Brother and Harry both just want to skate under the radar not wanting Fame or anything like that but to just live a long and normal life. Voldemort and Dumbledore are actually related. We know Tom Riddle is the last of the Gaunts or is he? Isolde One of the founders of Illvormorny was the daughter of a member of the Gaunt family, Her Mother. Isolde later had two daughters, one was a Witch and one a Squib. Her Squib daughter married her best friends brother, a Native American. When Harry sees Kendra's Photo he says she looks like she could be of Native American decent. If she is then why not have her mother be the descendent of Isolde, making Dumbledore and Voldemort related. This could also make him a descendant of the first brother and would explain his love for power as well.

Your theory is interesting and highly possible but I have another I want to share. When Voldemort heard about the prophecy (well part of it), it could have been about either Harry or Neville. Voldemort chose Harry probably because they were both HB Wizards and marked him as his equal. So because he marked him as his equal, Harry was chosen by a wand who has is equal in a different Wizard. And I think that had Voldemort didn't choose Harry as his equal, than the two may not have twin wands. Maybe if he chose Neville in a different timeline, and Neville haven't got his dad's wand. Instead he would go buy his own and he would receive the twin wand. And now for an interesting question I have- Wand cores. How exactly a wand core is getting to the hands of the wand maker? What do you do for getting Dragon's heart string? Maybe Dragons are slained and they get a piece of the heart every time. If it is the case it's horrible. Because getting a feather or a hair you can get the approval of the magical creature. Horn is another thing that you either wait for the creature to die, or you are taking it by force/killing it for getting the core. Now I am not saying wand makers do this themselves, but if magical creatures are slaughtered for getting a core it's horrific. And it's equal to animal abuse in our world. What do you guys think? Am I right?
@limiv5272
@limiv5272 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think most of the magical animals used in the making of wand cores get to 'approve' of much. I remember Ollivander saying that there was a fine unicorn that nearly killed him when he plucked one of its tail feathers, possibly this was mentioned in relation to Cedric's wand core but I'm not sure. Either way sounds like unicorn tail feathers are taken forcibly. A dragon would obviously not be alive do donate part of its heart, but the process of getting it might not be as sinister as you suggest. It could be that heartstrings can be taken from dragons that died of natural causes. Since there seem to be many preservation and concealment efforts by the Ministry, they'll probably have knowledge and access to almost any dragon that dies, and since dragons are big maybe each heart can be used to make many wands so a dead dragon once every couple of years could be enough. The only exception might be phoenixes. I can't see wand makers successfully cornering intelligent creatures that can fly and even vanish instantly often enough to make a business out of selling their tail feathers. When Ollivander talks about phoenix tail feathers he always says the phoenix 'gave' them. I think that might not be a figure of speech, phoenixes might actually give feathers to wand makers of their own accord.

@@limiv5272 Thank you for the information. And I don't remember but if what Olivander was saying is in the movies it doesn't count. Only if it's in the books. And as for what I said I was just suggesting a possible way to think. I didn't say it is proven I just find it interesting to know how exactly the cores are taken. And it's true the ministry wants to protect magical creatures. But I assume that like in our world there are Poaches who kills animals for personal profit. It might be happening also in the Wizarding world. Something to think about. But great answer.

After the first two they started deviating too much from the source material, making the characters too different, and I was too annoyed to continue watching. I found the bit about the unicorn, I remembered right it was about Cedric's wand core: “Very well, very well, it’s in fine working order,” said Mr. Ollivander, scooping up the flowers and handing them to Fleur with her wand. “Mr. Diggory, you next.” Fleur glided back to her seat, smiling at Cedric as he passed her. “Ah, now, this is one of mine, isn’t it?” said Mr. Ollivander, with much more enthusiasm, as Cedric handed over his wand. “Yes, I remember it well. Containing a single hair from the tail of a particularly fine male unicorn … must have been seventeen hands; nearly gored me with his horn after I plucked his tail. Twelve and a quarter inches … ash … pleasantly springy. It’s in fine condition. … You treat it regularly?”

I assumed that when a dragon died the parts could be harvested as their body parts are a valuable commodity. They are protected and cared for and on reservations so hopefully poaching is prevented. I wouldn't rate anybody's chances though. 😉 All the students require dragon skin gloves at Hogwarts so parts of the dragon are available. When Aragon dies Professor Slughorn takes some of the venom with Hargrid's permission. So there may be some rules on obtaining magical ingredients etc.

I tend to think of the magical item in a wand the way one thinks of DNA contribution to a child. A wand doesn’t become semi-sentient until it is combined with a magic wand wood. I image that this combining is something magical rather than just cutting a hole in the center of a stick. Otherwise, there would be more 11 year olds with broken wands. Once a core is combined with the wood, it becomes a semi-sentient object separate from and only partially like its “parent.” It’s also important to realize that while the wands share a core they do not share woods and those two woods have very different affinities. Two puppies that have the same father can be very different dogs and like very different people. There have been criminals that had loyal pets. Wands aren’t more aware of the goodness of a person than a pet just if it likes the witch or wizard holding it. The snatcher’s wand doesn’t like Harry, but Draco’s wand does. Who knows why really, other than ‘the wand chooses the wizard.’ Ollivander and Dumbledore are fully sentient beings, so why given what they know do they do what they do? Dumbledore is easy, he believes in second chances, gives them where many others would not. He doesn’t write off Tom at eleven as incapable of good and he doesn’t write off Snape who is a death eater at the time. A better question is why does Ollivander make a wand (Yew & Phoenix feather) with such an affinity for a powerful dark wizard. I think ultimately it’s because Ollivander is a neutral academic character. Before this Ollivander (sorry forgot his first name), people could come into the shop with an object they wanted used as a core or demanding/refusing a particular wood. Ollivander considered this to be “unscientific” wand lore and was willing to do some experimenting with wands and their owners. There is some indication in GoF that Ollivander may be the only wand maker insisting on letting the wand choose the wizard. We know at the time of GoF, some wand makers still make wand cores of other things than Ollivander’s chosen three. Ollivander makes the Holly wand because it is an “usual combination.” He makes the Yew wand because he knows it will be powerful but doesn’t really believe the ‘old wives tales’ of it’s ease of being turned to dark magic until Tom becomes Voldemort. Those are my thoughts. What do you think?

I feel that since phoenixes are a symbol of death and rebirth, Harry's phoenix feather may have been looking for someone to be the light against Voldemort's darkness. Like it was trying to "bring balance to the force" harry potter style. Life(harry) and death(voldemort), light and dark, good and evil, yang and yin. It even goes down to their wand wood types. In ancient druidic traditions, Holly wood(Harry's wand) was associated with life and growth, while Yew(Voldemort's wand) is associated with death and resurrection in Celtic culture.

It's just that Voldemort chose to revenge and conquer the world, while Harry chose to protect. 2/Maybe both wands are like Yin and Yang. The phoenix produced both wands, knowing that one of it will fall into a hand of a villain so the other wand has to fall into a Hero's hand.

I kind of agree, but differ slightly from your conclusion. It was not because of Voldemort exactly or precisely that Harry was destined for greatness. It was the prophecy that was made by Sybil Trelawney that did that, but only because Voldemort acted upon her words that was relayed to him by Severus Snape, remember the conversation dumbledore has with harry in the HBP, in the Headmasters office. "He did not hear the full wording of the prophecy, and thus did not know there might be danger in attacking you, or risk transferring some of his power to you, which indeed happened". This last part is the crucial part of what Dumbledore said, "or risk transferring some of his power to you", it is perhaps this power that the core sensed and chose Harry, although this part of Voldemort's magic certainly was powerful, it was not inherently evil. But this was not the magic sensed the phoenix feather sensed, it felt something much much more powerful, Harry had very powerful ancient magic of his own, that was passed on by his mother when Voldemort killed her, so powerful that it could resist the lure of power of Voldemort, this magic is so powerful that Voldemort could not even touch him without being mortally wounded, and that power is love, greater and more powerful than any magic that Voldemort had ever produced, and that is why Harry was destined for greatness.

There's one thing that instantly disproves this theory. It's that when the horcrux was removed from Harry and the holly wand was repaired, Harry was still it's master. Whilst the Elder wand changes master to whoever beats it's previous ones, phoenix wands are more loyal, so the fact that the Holly wand's power didn't disappear with the horcrux means that you've gone in the wrong direction. I think it would be more suitable to say Fawkes is a bit like Dumbledore. In its early days it chose power and glory - Tom Riddle. In it's later days it chose love and compassion - Harry.

Maybe it had something to do with the prophecy and the wand being drawn to harry because of the horecrux that voldemort had laid inside harry (scar) as you mentioned. Honestly plot set aside, i think mostly that it was the fact that the wand was "destined" to be drawn to harry being that him and voldemort shared the connection that harry would need in order for him to fulfill the prophecy. If it wouldn't be for that spell that comes out from the wand when two "brother" wands tries to attack the other harry surely would've died at the graveyard meaning he couldn't fulfill the prophecy. there's no way that what wand harry got was chanced being that harry was prophesied to vanquish the dark lord for good. so all in all, The wand chose Harry because of the connection between him and voldemort (the horecrux) and because he was prophesied to vanquish the dark lord for good. There is just no way that harry comes out alive from the graveyard withouth the help of that spell when two brother cores attack eachother, hes what a 4th year student vs the infamous dark lord voldemort who swept with terror and fear through the whole wizarding world during his reign before he "died". Even when he's gone people fear speaking his name, that says just abit of how he was during his reign. iirc. Olivander said something along the lines of "strange, curious that this wand would be drawn to you when the twin brother of this core did terrible but great things" when first meeting him in the wand store.

There are things greater than power. Greatness can be shown through love, loyalty, bravery, knowledge, ambition. Harry was not born great, he chose to be great just like he chose with the sorting hat. He learned from the love of the people around him and proved his greatness by trial. Yes, Voldemort was powerful and great in his power, but Harry was great in a power that Voldemort knows not. The Phoenix gave an opportunity, the opportunity of choice is beyond power.

I think it chose Harry to save him from voldermort as we see right upto the last book when it shoots the golden fire and breaks licius's wand

Dumbledore found brought both voldemort and Harry into the Wizarding world. He also is the owner of fauks. He also is was a very cautious wizard whom knew many other powerful wizards. Maybe he was told by a seer about the events of voldemorte and Harry, and while not entirely believing that this was destiny, he would be cautious enough to plan for the worst. Hence he gets the Phoenix to donate 2 feathers. Gets olivander to ensure that both characters recieve said wands. Etc. Etc.

Due to the prophecy that stated before Harry’s birth that the one who would take down the Dark Lord would be born as the 7th month dies, it would seem that Harry was already destined to play his part in relation to the life of Tom Riddle. We should remember that albeit distantly, Harry and Tim Riddle were related and Neville was not.

The connection as you stated makes sense. I came to that same conclusion.

I like your final point. I’ve always thought the part of Voldemort within Harry influenced the wand somewhat, but how much? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Harry might not have been ‘great’ without Tom because he would not have been the Chosen One without Tom’s choice. however his uncanny ability for selflessness is nothing but great. my question is- did that selflessness come from his childhood trauma caused by Tom or would he have been this selfless if he hadn’t been grown up in the same circumstances? Either way, the empathy and loyalty Harry possessed must have had an influence on the phoenix feather

So that theory would mean, that if Voldemort would have chosen Neville and therefore making him the chosen one, the phoenix wand would have picked him? But Neville was given the wand of his father when he went to Hogwarts and got a new one just after the events in the ministry of magic. So the story would have been a lot different, because if we assume that Neville would have participated in the triwizard tournament, he wouldn't have the phoenix wand to ''protect'' him. I mean of course the events would have been different because Neville is of course another character than Harry, but this is just what came to my mind after hearing your theory (which I actually agree with).

The one thing I’m unsure if people remember is that Harry and Voldemort are so alike but it was one choice that made them different. To love… or to hate. Voldemort gave into fear and sought power to to make others fear him. He was alone. Harry chose love and friendship and because of that was never alone once he found Hogwarts . I think the wands saw the potential they both had but it was the choices that made them different. However we also have to remember that Voldemort chose Harry. It easily could have been Neville. But Voldemort went after Harry and his parents. He marked him as his equal and that changed the way everything played out didn’t it.

Yes! Yes! Yes! This was the very question I have about the previous Olivander wands video!!! It's "How did the first years get their wands during Voldemort's reign? Why were they sent to Hogwarts?" video... Did the second feather chose Harry Potter because of Harry Potter? OR did it chose Harry because the feather sensed Voldemort in Harry since the first feather chose Voldemort (Tom Riddle)?
