Olenna Tyrell was an observer and judge of character. Not only did she saved her grand daughter from the cruelty of sadistic Joffrey. She also protected her grandson from killing Joffrey and plunging the realm into total chaos.

Olenna gave Sansa a hair net encrusted with small jewels. At the wedding feast, Olenna fussed with Sansa’s hair net. Later we are shown an image of the hair net with a jewel missing. It’s believed the poison was hidden in the hair net and this scene is where Olenna removed it so she could put it in Joffrey’s wine cup. So I believe Olenna did in fact poison him directly. 😊

I love Olenna Tyrell, the Queen of Thrones. I wish she were alive today. I can think of 4 folks she could take care of for us in 2024. Joffrey was hated, but I can think of 4 more just like him.

You can see her put the poison in his cup right after she makes her comment about paying for everything in the episode BUT you can hear it too if you're watching with earbuds

She’s SUPER slick when she pops the poison crystal off Sansa’s necklace in the first place, too.

Joffrey had to go. He was so evil that he wasn't useful, even to other evil and greedy people.

I still remember the first time I watched Joffrey die. It was one of the best moments of the entire show up to that point, and I would argue perhaps in the entire series.

But it was Olenna that poisoned him. The jewel on Sansa's necklace had poison in it, didn't it? Olenna had the Jester give Sansa the necklace. She wore the necklace to the wedding. Olenna removed the particular poison jewel and put it in the wine, or at least I think that's how I remember it going.

Jack Gleeson played the character....King Joffrey....so good it was reported he said in an interview people couldn't separate him from his character to the point he stepped away from acting for awhile. For a long time, J.R. Ewing from the 1970's Tv. show..."Dallas"....was always voted the number one character people loved to hate....now, it's King Joffrey

Frankly, Joffery deserved what happened to him..he was cruel, and uncaring. How can a King justly rule his people when he treats his people with tierney...

Geoffry takes after his mother. Not his father, like his siblings. In the books Jaimie is way better, far away from his sister.

Assuming that Olenna actually DID poison Joffery (which does make sense to me) that was A good move on her part, for Margery's immediate sake. However, where Olenna failed in it was not fully factoring in Cersei's dislike for Margery, as well as her favor towards Joffery, her resources and the lengths she'd likely go to. It was as if she didn't take Cersei seriously enough as an enemy.

In the character of Olenna, I see elements of Isabella of France, Lucretia Borgia, and, mostly, Eleanor of Aquitaine. You see, Martin was borrowing a lot from history, and those that know that history of Europe in the Middle Ages, GoT (the TV series, at least) was very predictable. Although, I can't decide if the Targaryans (don't care if I spelled it right) were more Hapsburg or Ptolemy?

The actor that played Joffery was great in this part! Like the actor that played the Malfoy kid in the Harry Potter series. They will always be remembered for these parts. But also they probably wont be able to work in anything else again.

The reason Joffery was an asshole is because since he was air to the throne, his mama didn’t see him as a regular son she may have loved him, but he was also a pool through which she could authority. This dynamic, I believe. Warped, Joffrey.

I knew Lady Olenna did. It was the moment Joffrey sat his cup down on her table while belittling his uncle, she had enough time to slip the strangler poison in it.

Joffery's character and actions had led to very bad karma aligned against him. Lady Olenna and Little Finger were simply the ones who handed down the sentence.

I still remember the scene where Joffrey talks to Tywin in the throne room. He was worried about Daenerys and her dragons and Tywin just dismisses the whole thing. Joffrey may have been a sadistic little creep but he was right about the biggest thing of all and no one listened.

Obviously since Joffrey was murder I would say his death wasn't tragic. I do think that many missed the point of him and his brother's rule. Yes Joffrey was the extreme aggressive but they also showed the extreme passive with Tommy. Do you think that Joffrey would ever let the Sparrow get away with what he got away with. I think what Martin was trying to show was you definitely don't want someone like Joffrey as King but a weak King is also bad. Thought good illustration. But that maybe just what I took from it.

The real reason that Olenns killed Joffrey was because he needed killing. The boy was absolutely evil. Not a redeemable quality in him.
