I totally support Ruth Wilson for quitting a series where she was made to feel very uncomfortable! Ruth Wilson was one of the best actresses on that series and she deserved to be respected and listened to! The Affair was one of the best series I have ever seen and I really wanted it to continue past season 5! I agree with the many comments that the tree seen between Noah and Allison seemed more like a rape! I am surprised that her character did not leave and charge Noah after that scene because to me it was a rape! Kudos to Ruth Wilson for quitting the series!

I did not feel that the show was about sex, or about affairs. To me, it was about people, and life. And about how individuals handle stuff, and about how to take responsibility and how to be happy. Watching seasons 1-4 on Amazon prime, I thought several times that the people making this show think showing sex is way more important than than it is. Good show, and storytelling. @@bluecollarlit I thought the same thing. I was watching it thinking this looks like a man wrote it because everyone is defaulting to sex and everything is sex. I get that her arc is that she is using sex to numb her pain, so she is promiscuous, but every sex scene doesn’t need to be full on graphic. You can allude to her having slept with a guy without having to have a drawn out sex scene. This is what people (including the actress) means when she says it isn’t organic to the plot. They were just throwing in full on nudity in every sex scene just to do so. Certain moments it makes sense like the first time we see her with Cole or Noah or if there is a particularly charged scene, but every time they sleep together doesn’t need to be graphic, nor did we need to see that with her sex scene with that creepy guy. That was another pointless scene.

Unless you have the contract to review and you were there during discussions about what role Ruth would play, you do not have the information to determine whether Ruth is right or whether she is wrong. Is it possible that there were discussions about the sexuality Ruth would portray that weren't detailed in the contract or were too lengthy to have in the contract? Is it possible that the producers of the show said one thing to get her to do the role and then tried to turn the tables on her to make a more carnal, titillating show at the expense of real, meaningful story development? All I can tell you is that I've been promised things by employers and supervisors in my career that were never delivered and asked to do things that were either unethical or unsafe. After much thought... even with no pressure from anyone & even if everything was copacetic on set.. I don’t think it would be unusual to feel uncomfortable with so much nudity. And when your a woman with so much obvious acting talent , a woman always has to be wary , in most any job really, that all you’ll really be valued for, is being sexy & not taken seriously for your other attributes & contributions. Yes she is beautiful , but at the end of the day, if she didn’t have EXCEPTIONAL TALENT, sexy only takes one so far. I can’t fault her for jumping out , no matter what did or didn’t go on behind the scenes. All & all tho, great show!! I didn’t get to see it all until 2019. I just now binged whole series and my persistent thought was: “just too much unnecessary graphic sex scenes.” I am Not going to say they were irrelevant to her character because her arc is that she is using sexual experiences to escape her pain so we have to see her being promiscuous which means yes, she will be having more sex than other female costars, but does every scene need to be graphic? You can allude to the fact that she had sex without every scene having to be a graphic full on nude sex scene. It was so obvious it was there just for titillation and ratings and not storytelling and if this many people noticed it was “too much,” that means what they were doing was transparent.

You forget you are watching a show and lose yourself in the show, forgetting about where you are and what is happening around you. This is why you become an actress, to have this powerful an effect on the audience. Suing your fellow actresses is wrongful and spiteful and says everything that you need to know about that person.
