An example of ‘this is why we can’t have nice things’. People took the configs way too far and they had to do something else this game would have become an absolute dumpster fire. I started playing Apex in season 4 using a controller and learned MnK on it because I didn’t want to play at a disadvantage. At that point it was the superior input in every way. No tap strafing yet and no Steam. The only advantage controller players had were the strike packs and aim assist, and no one thought it was overpowered. Today, controller players have gained a huge reputation as cheaters because of these types of exploits. I agree that tap strafing should be available on controller but going further and building these types of macros would have destroyed the competitive integrity of the game and it would have further added to the issues people have and finally affected EAs bottom line.

I used to play controller and now mnk, tap strafing should be allowed for controller. All the other ones are so annoying and mnk users abuse them like neo strafing. The thing i dont get is how Respawn says configs in comp is not allowed but casuals its all good. You can also tell who uses them as configs are too fast

I switched to pc from ps5 and can tell you that once you do it you won’t come back. The input lag on console is bad. One thing I will say is you’ll have to get used to timing super jumps and super glides because if that.

Agree to disagree. I play both inputs pretty well. Controller still op when it matters. All the movement tech MNK players use doesn’t translate as much in games when it matters. The only thing I think is broken is AA. Hence why I stuck with roller. If it is slightly nerfed, that would be a better balance between both inputs kind of link what the finals did.

It’s a good thing they got rid of it for controller. Controller gets aim assist for inhuman aim, keyboard gets movement for movement not possible for controller. Balanced as it should be.

From what I have observed the commands are still being sent by the controller but are being ignored in the game client; like if I just stand there and press in and up on my left thumb stick you can see the player lurching forward. My hope is that this was the only way they could quickly implement a stop-gap to mitigate the abuse that has been plaguing Apex, and that more nuanced measures can be put in place that will curb abuse but still facilitate advanced movement techniques for both inputs. I'll be attempting to wait patiently in hopes of good news on the matter from Respawn in the near future.

4:50 if you are playing on console, you don't have PC player enemies. If you play on PC and decide to purposfully use controller, you are accepting to sacrifice movement for aim assist. If you choose to play on controller instead of MnK when you're on PC, because you want BOTH then you're just greedy and a cheater, since this is basically cheating. Press a button to consistently do multiple actions perfectly without any effort like neo-strafing, super glides, tap strafes, 180's etc.

I heavily respect you for your last comment, that you are not giving up the game. We do not know if things will change and as an MnK player, I am curious to how this will effect my games. Even with the CFG's getting removed, still think aim assist is still broken af and I feel nothing will change in my lobbies. I can do the super gliding and tap strafing and still get one clipped by a level 20 player on roller with no CFG's. But I am curious to how this will play out. The only people this will really effect are streamers, pros, and top ranked players. 90% of controller players do not use CFG's at all, so nothing changed for them.

Respawn absolutely could. Theyre a decent developer as far as their capability is concerned, think of how difficult it must be for them to code all the aiming mathematics, all the movement math, and all the variables that happen in pubs matches, ring closures, storm tick damages, different legends abilities, limited time modes etc. They could implement code into the game to have a basic tap strafe bind, kinda how steam used to allow you to do, but they do it on their end... after all, steam is a third party software. Theres nothing stopping them from implementing it into console, as respawn would have total control and moderation over it by default, seeing as you literally cant have 3rd party intervention on console. Makes me wander why they havent done so to be honest!

while I am new to this topic on tap strafing (I'm an Xbox player) I can say that in general from the movement ability of mnk vs roller is extremely different. mnk usually has all the advantages here especially since roller players cannot tap strafe, while tap strafe is not needed it's a good mechanic to use from both sides. and we can't forget aim assist, aim assist in its own isn't needed but is extremely helpful since from my experience it is a nightmare to aim without it and I think a lot of people could agree with me, also with this I won't deny that aim assist can be a bit broken and is broken, if there is a way to lower it should be done to find a good in between to better suit the player with the mind set that's it's actually them aiming the sticks. From now they should have added a way to use tap strafing in the game menu. it would help with controller players and most likely get rid of a lot of the configs and other methods of getting the tap strafe.

I use steam config to enable Gyro on controller+pc. The change didn’t seem to affect my layouts so not super sure what they actually did here to remove tap strafing.

Hot take: screw tap strafing and just give is regular air strafing instead. Better compatibility with mnk and rollers, smoother movement and less jerky motion going from mantling to super speed to an instant 180. It’s not fun to fight somebody who isn’t bound by pesky things like “acceleration” or “weight” and it’s way more accessible for all players.

Personally i enjoy aiming with roller but I usually dont use aim assist either im weird that way Apex have rather slow sensitivity on roller 500 degrees per second but The non alc max sens is slight higher but lower than 700 degrees needs further testing tho Anything lower than 500 dps sens ins unplayable for me even on linear

I’m a controller player , just wanted to say this season has been BRUTAL. I love the new changes with armor and everything, but there’s no casuals in pubs anymore. I always get squad wiped by 3 stacked masters and end up not being able to play the game. Doesn’t help the fact that everything about controller gets nerfed and mouse and keyboard remains unchanged

I’ve played controller forever switch to mnk recently and it is a big change I did config superglides because it is impossible to be consistent on my cheap keyboard because of how it reads inputs and that is gone now the most I dropped in damage on controller was just above 6k and the most I’ve gotten on mnk is 3.5k it is not as easy as many would think their are ups and downs to both inputs but strafing on a controller is much easier while having aim assist so I believe it is at a fair point that players need to choose their play styles or make the switch unfortunately but neither are just a pick up and play especially in apex

But really think abt it mnk players created everything that we use we are literally using their own moves against them and somehow we are the problem they created jitter aiming tap strafing mantle jumps super glides everything that the steam config uses I mean yes aim assist is broken but let’s be fr it don’t even work half the time u actually gotta move the analog so it’s not just pure aim assist I feel like apex should bring it back because atp us controller player are out of luck we have so many disadvantages it’s crazy this game is ruined now until this is fixed I don’t wanna hear no mnk players complain

Wait, I thought the whole point of controller having aim assist is because MnK can tap strafe and move and loot, so if controller with aim assist can do tap strafe and move and loot with configs, ahhhhhhhh .... now I know why even casual players were switching to roller.

Configs were changed for both mnk and controller. The controller specific change was to lurches, which was hopefully just made while they figure out how to deal with neostrafing without removing tap strafing for roller.
