There's plenty of friendly wrestlers and strong men at circuses back in the day you don't have to pick anti heroes and heels from the 90's. Norman Smiley, Bret Hart, Bruno Sammartino, Hulk Hogan all wore trunks. They wore a lot of bright colors, too. Whatever his reasoning I'm glad we got them!

It should be noted that back when Superman was created, the undies were supposed to be a sign of strength. But eventually, the meaning got lost.... So they no longer have the same weight. So it's understandable that some people won't like it.

Snyder is a lot more realistic. Heroes are meant to be viewed as godlike beings. I mean, they have super powers for god sake. But in the comics, social views of heroes are non existent. I don’t know how it would translate well on live-action.

But what James Gunn wants is an unrealistic version of him where people sees heroes as part of their day to day lives. Snyder explored the possibilities of the many complications of having superheroes that can threaten human extinction. When they destroy properties, they are held accountable so to speak.
