Obi Wan wouldn't have had time to kill Anakin before Palpatine arrived? It would have just taken a quick swish of his light sabre. Obi Wan spent about 30 seconds or so talking to Anakin after cutting off his arms and legs. He could have dispensed with the talking and killed Anakin immediately. Whatever the reason Obi Wan didn't kill Anakin it wasn't because he didn't have time.
