It's clear both of you see him as an action star but didn't once consider the possibility that he's trying to do more serious roles. Suggesting he won because he's getting old and might not get another chance is absolutely ridiculous, he's in his fifties for christ sake. You could be 84 and be favourite to win an oscar. If anything the older you get the better your chances are.. He's clearly doing more oscar bait'y roles these days. He's been pushing for a while. Not because he's irrelevant or getting older, but because he wants to do more serious roles. If that slap wouldn't of happened he'd be getting many more nominations because clearly, he's trying to put himself forward to prestigious films more, Denzel style. Great analysis. I found the bit about going deeper into the dysfunction really true. It seems to go beyond relationships, like also addiction searching for the end of the tunnel by going deeper into the pit.

I always found it weird as to why the Academy would care about viewing figures for an award show. Award shows are inherently not very interesting to watch and all anyone cares about is finding out who the winners. The Oscars are important as they are supposed to be recognition and sometimes a spotlight for real talent or accomplishment in film making. It is important to recognize the best that is out there and should never be tied to pop culture. I don't really care what is the most popular I care what is regarded as being the best and you find that out from critics and awards. It's how laymen can learn and gain an understanding of what is good rather than simply enjoyable. The Oscars should realistically either stream the event worldwide for free if they really care about getting people to watch or just not care and focus on the awards. But yeh, the slap happened too I guess.
@Rooney872 жыл бұрын
It's true even the Grammys have halved it's viewership over last 10 years, people just don't watch as. much tv as much anymore. It's seemed like a ABC call to change it all up. The show odd, starting with a grammy type performance, having 2 opening monologues, the weird fan voting award, the 8 categories in the first hour edited in to main show, and other weird things. All to save time, which didn't work anyway as it was the longest show in years. They ended up trying to appeal to a greater audience that doesn't want to watch and alienate the audience that does want to watch.

Look up how much adverts cost for the Oscar’s. In 2020 they made $129,000,000 in adverts alone
@BlueBloodPenn2 жыл бұрын
@@isyt1 They shouldn't care. An awards show should not be about making money or at least that should not be the driving factor. And if they are getting that much for adverts now when the viewing figures are low then why care about them cause clearly it doesn't matter and they make bank from it regardless.
@isyt12 жыл бұрын
@@BlueBloodPenn of course they shouldn’t care but this is America. They’ll monetise everything. And why turn down 100 mil when it’s there on a plate
@BlueBloodPenn2 жыл бұрын
@@isyt1 But my point is if they are making that money now when everyone knows that the viewing figures are low, why do they care about the viewing figures and try weird things to improve them? They are getting millions regardless of what the viewership is.

To my understanding the Academy was created for people in the industry to recognize itself and fellow working artist to be nominated as outstanding in the field. .... It wasn't supposed to be made (I've read) for use of Entertainment to outsiders initially.
