Quite a few old videos being shown by Heat Geek - It would be nice to have a date of filming in the description. What would be even better is if there was a 5 min update tagged on the end to highlight points made that are still ultra relevant and any updates/changes - like that legislation that never happened or has been repealed etc.

Great discussion and really interesting but when was this filmed please? It would be really useful if you included when it was filmed so we can relate to the events in that year etc. A lot has changed in the past year for example with energy prices, government, policy etc.

This looks to have been filmed around October 2022, with progress from then (52p per kWh!). Probably this should be highlighted in the video description?

Brilliant video. Totally agree on the Keynesian point. It is a no brainer.

Best argument for any country to switch to renewables regardless of what the biggest economies are doing, is that because of economies of scale, every country that switches makes fossil fuels more expensive ultimately for the ones that don't. Eventually if the demand shrinks enough it won't be economical to build new refineries and it will get very expensive for just the US or China to be still dependent on fossil fuels.

If there's a paper written by this guy that hydrogen boilers aren't looking good, are these guys going to the government with it? Surely they could spare some of this gas pipework money (that probably won't work anyway) go to increasing the bus grant and putting it to other better uses

The worst thing that happened to UK energy was politics, and in particular an offshoot, privatisation 30+ years ago, ie the market.... I'm not going to criticise Richard's understanding of how the market operates leaving open the suggestion wind energy providers are raking it in when demand goes high - I suggest he talks to the small producers, as it is patently untrue - Their production prices as well as standby are fixed, so where are all those billions in profits going ? - Perhaps someone at No 11 Downing Street might clarify ? As for importing Norwegian/French gas/electricity, have a close look at the map to see where ALL of it goes, SE England... Scotland is smothered in Electricity and Gas and can't get rid of it, and SE England can't get enough of it at prices which would make a Nun blush in the south and pull on an extra layer in the Highlands of Scotland.. The 'market' and it's politics are rotten to the core if it hangs on a map of production and consumption from over 30 years ago, and never lifted a finger aside the middle one to re-balance... However amusing it may have been to post this under 'Heat Geek Uninsulated', might I suggest bolding Uninsulated ? My energy bills have decreased year on year though insulation, 80% at the last count on a new build 11 years ago. Just sayin... 370 quid on gas heating down to -16c outside for the last year, but 270 this year will be a peach..... It does rather eclipse the "tariffs" talk

Another great video content. Failed miserably to Quote 24kw boiler instead of 35kw to customer. Customer thinks bigger is better and pays £500 more. Blame manufacturers or government? Lover to see A 10minute video that Silly Billy customer can digest on bigger size boiler. A video for dissecting gas price.

Wind has "no running costs" ???

He actually meant that the marginal cost of producing one additional kWh is zero. Once the operator has invested the capital, there obviously still are operational costs like maintenance. But those operational costs do not change when the wind turbine is producing at 10% or 100% capacity.

There is no such thing as free energy millions are being spent trying to supply it and we are paying those millions.
