From having the same LBZ for 10 years, buy AC Delco idlers and belt especially if it has dual alternators. I've never had any luck with the parts store house brands.

This is so adorable. My mom's 99 tahoe threw its belt about 15 miles from me ...with 300k miles. Told her to take it easy coming down the mountain to my house. Changed the belt and pulley and she was on her way.

Yeap my idler pulley locked up about 6 months ago on my Lbz , lost brakes and everything , lil spooky driving an 8500 pound truck that won’t stop , also fun loading on a trailer with no brakes haha

For future reference if you do a belt or pulleys have someone else watch the belt when re-installing belt as it goes around without starting the truck to avoid damaging the new belt or anything else

I just replaced both idler pulleys on my LBZ duramax. Just put a built duramax in my race truck, both pulleys sounded a little on the "rough" side when I spun then, so replaced them.

Fun fact about a 6.6 duramax…a slung belt won’t cause it to over heat because the water pump is gear driven just like a cat 3406…

I don't watch much tv at all either, lots of working. However, my wife sucked me into watching the whole Chosen series. It's a much watch. I'm traditionally a cummins guy but as of a few minutes in it's a belt not the motor. Next new pickup will be whatever brand doesn't try to hose me on 40K over MSRP.

Man I recently swapped my alternator and replaced the belt due to a slight squeal and that belt is a pain in the ass to replace. I checked my idler pulleys and tensioner at the same time and they all felt fine I'm assuming they had been replaced when my mom had the alternator last replaced at a family friend's garage.

Why you're there, it may not hurt to replace both idlers and the tensioner. I had a similar thing happen on my 05 LLY. Luckily I caught it before anything major happened. One of the idlers was nearly seized up.

Way to go Jake, you heard something! You recorded it! And now you, you fixed it! With tension on the old belt, while making noise, you would have had trouble locating the problem. An experienced tech might have caught it, if in the shop and apart, with the truch together, running or not but tension on the belt ,a lot of drivers would not have found it. Things wear and break. N.B.F.D. WAY TO GO JAKE!
