Today is the first installment of my Spooktober series! I did this last year, and decided I needed to do it this year as well. This isn't a true crime video like the ones I've done in the past, but it's a topic I wanted to talk about. It's the disturbing story behind Alice in Wonderland, which is in my top 3 favorite childhood stories.

If you're curious to where the 99% statistic comes from (with the reps making little to no money)here you go:
That statistic comes from a report done by Jon M. Taylor PhD called "the Case (For And) Against Multi-Level Marketing" which the FTC studied and verified. The report in entirety can be found on the FTC website (which I will leave linked below for you). The report is 40 pages long so if you are only looking for the statistic skip to Chapter 7: MLM's abysmal numbers. His statistics were independently verified by other experts prior to being given to the FTC as listed in the appendix. Other experts such as Robert Fitzpatrick have also done their own independent studies and came up with the exact same numbers.

This is fascinating, I never knew this stuff. Great video 🥰 And I loved Alice in Wonderland too. One of my favorite parts: “Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?” “That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,” said the Cat. “I don’t much care where-” said Alice. “Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,” said the Cat. “-so long as I get somewhere,” Alice added as an explanation. “Oh, you’re sure to do that,” said the Cat, “if you only walk long enough.”

The Alice and Wonderland book that I read was a modern edition with the history of the author. The book goes into detail about how he tried to marry Alice and the parents were so disgusted they ran away from him and never spoke to him or about the incident. They only know this due to found diaries. The reason why this is a hidden history is due to cultural impact and the Disney version being completely divorced from most of the original text.

i thought that him trying to marry Alice was a theory and there was no evidence of him actually doing that. I could be wrong but I remember there not being any proof.

@@monicahayworth same. I'm glad to hear someone else at least will bring into the conversation that he may not have had an unnatural proclivity. So many are set on just that one theory. Whatever he was, he was terribly imaginative.

I didn't want to accuse him of something this serious without more evidence. That's why I added all of the other theories into the conversation along with people who have accused him and people who have defended him. I hope he wasn't a p-phile. You're right though that he was terribly imaginative.

I would think that there is a possibility that Alice would have told someone if he had behaved inappropriately towards her or someone would have noticed something and there would have been more documentation in someone's diary or something? There was a lot of stuff that was acceptable back then that is definitely not acceptable now so who knows 🤷 I think it's a strong theory that he had an affair with her mom and maybe even the bit about wanting some of the royalties.

@@sasamafrass I think anything is possible. I just really didn't want to accuse him of something so serious with just theories from people. Because really, any of the theories I've seen could be correct.

I remember there being an internet kerfuffle a few years back, supposedly the "map" community had a thing called "Alice Day" where you were supposed to wear pink to indicate you were part of the "map" community or something, and it was called that because they believed Lewis Carroll was a p-word and that that was a good thing. I think that might have been a fake scare to get people to be paranoid about anyone wearing the color pink on that day, though.
@monicahayworth
@monicahayworth 2 жыл бұрын
I didn't know about that, but that would make a lot of sense. I truly hope he wasn't a p-phile but I'm not going to accuse someone of something so serious without more evidence. I can't believe maps tried to take advantage of this though. So disgusting.

@@monicahayworth as my father used to say "those who are quick to judge must have some sliver of experience at what they are judging, calling someone a thief means they know how to steal, calling them a creep means they have creeped themselves, and calling them a pedophile means they themselves have admired children in an unholy way" and i trust his words i suffer from developmental issues due to poor health as a child and spending my first 12 years of life in a hospital room hooked up to machines and drips, as such, i prefer the company of my neices and nephews to that of my own twin sister, im not a creep but someone who didnt have the chance to be a child and simply wants to enjoy watching children be children so that i can at least witness what i lost out on. i always felt that carroll may have had something similar. i have been falsely accused of being "that" because i paint my neices and nephews, nothing creepy, i paint them being themselves, such as when they were at the dinner table having lunch, or just watching tv in the living room, i enjoy painting the "normalacy of childhood" simple things we take for granted as adults but to a child is as important as breathing, and the more i paint, the more i feel like a real human being and not someone who spent a third of there life hooked up to wires

Plot twist, what if Charles was really gay, and that's what he meant when he wrote about him asking God to help him for his "sinning ways"(because in the old days for them that was one of the biggest sin that certain people hide), or what if he was bisexual? haha. What if he was comfortable about being with girls and women because he feels like he is just a little girl inside. LOL I don't know these are just "what ifs", we really don't know. I know for a fact, that for me, as an artist, I paint and draw naked people and don't feel any sexual urges towards the subjects, as artists we often may just see the human body as "beautiful" like the same way we look at a boquet of flowers. So even if pedophiles do exist out there in the world, a lot of them pedophiles don't take pictures or do photography. Also, many photographers and painters who even do naked subjects never feel sexual attraction to their subjects, we see beautiful people like we look at beautiful pets, or a beautiful sunset, or a nice river, wanting to immortalize the view or picture that we see, because we know beauty is fleeting and artists always desire to find the beauty in everything, trying to capture the elusive and fleeting. Just a thought. Sorry for the long read.
