The place was also known among a handful of expats based elsewhere in SEA, Asia and further afield, who would pop in whenever they visited Bangkok. Lt Cmdr Edward Lin's case is very interesting (from both sides). Lin worked for the FBI and NCIS for a number of years before he was accused of spying. During his time as a FBI and NCIS contact, his was required to maintain contact with specific Taiwanese and Chinese governmental personnel. During his trial, the US government prosecution had pretty much no evidence of spying / espionage and attempted espionage. Lin eventually plead guilty to mishandling classified information and not reporting foreign contacts. He was eventually sentenced to a nine-year sentence with the last three years suspended as part of a pre-trial agreement with the government. He was also given a 646-day credit for time served in pre-trial confinement. As part of his sentence, Lin was dismissed (the officer equivalent of a dishonorable discharge) from the Navy. Lin went through a General Court Martial.
@2degucitas8 ай бұрын
Was it ever revealed what the classified material was about?
@GigOne8 ай бұрын
@@2degucitas Shortly after Lin was picked up (at the Honolulu airport in 2015 on a flight to China) he was interrogated by the NCIS. Lin confessed to telling a recently retired Taiwanese naval officer and several others of "highly classified details about the U.S. Navy's weapons programs." This included the Long Range Anti-ship Missile under development, the high-speed rail gun and the Laser Weapon System being tested in the Persian Gulf. That retired Taiwanese naval officer (Justin Kao) resides in the US and he was questioned. Kao denied that Lin told him anything. Keep in mind, Kao was assigned to the unofficial Taiwanese embassy in DC. So, if Lin told Kao and Kao admitted it, Kao would be considered a foreign spy and would have been arrested on the spot. Kao admitted that Lin showed him a small fragment from a test target or the so-called "rail gun." Lin told him it was given to him as a souvenir. The government has evidence of Lin sending two "secret" emails. There was a big problem with the Navy's case. There was very little evidence of any espionage by Lin and there was growing doubt that the government could prove that Lin was a spy. Even with Lin's initial admission that he was running his mouth about US secrets. The government couldn't prove or show that Lin was receiving payments for providing classified information. They were trying to tag Lin as a spy, which would sent him to prison for life without any chance of parole. Lin's defense was that his admission of guilt was coerced. Even the Navy admitted that the initial interrogation, where Lin admitted guilt, was extensive and intense.

Hey Eric, if if we set aside some of the more out-there elements to Ashton's story and just go as far as a lithium battery fire on board, how about talking to an aviation expert or aviation accident investigator for an opinion on what that does to an aircraft? What's the damage to the controls and/or airframe and how far can it fly? My limited experience with aviation tells me not very far, but there should be some folks right up the road from you would could answer those questions. Then maybe we can entertain what happened next. A fire is certainly plausible, but they shouldn't have been flying all over creation after it was discovered. Airframes aren't designed to sustain much damage at all and stay airborne for very long. The #1 priority has to be getting the plane on the ground, and it would seem MH370 had several opportunities to do that.

@@TraceElliot42 no, if you're in an emergency, you can legally land where you feel it's suitable, trying to make the less damage possible. The procedure and the safe guards put by air traffic controllers will be exactly the same as if it's a simple lost of communication procedure. If it's on a runway with a tower control or even a simple traffic information manager (not separating trafic) there is a procedure to clear the path even without radar control and ensure the airplane has priority. It's simple, after a short time if the communication is lost, the controllers consider it already as a loss of communications and the procedure is lauched. Pilots learn that during the first courses and train for this during the first minutes of practice. It's the same for Air Trafic Controllers. A former private pilot. Friendly

Experts and specialists in aviation, on crash investigations, communication systems, etc are still investigating very seriously. Sadly not all countries involved continued but there are both official and independant investigations from people who are experts in that. Sadly the media are more interrested in making the buzz and talking about crazy theories, people make contents, sell books without any respect to the families and some try to drag some victims family with them to make fame and money. ALL experts have found the same FACTS. We know how long the aircraft flew, in which zone, which switch has been turned, at which moment, which systems got off and on and even the temperature in the different areas of the aircraft. We also know when it was flown manually and where it was with automation. We have a more defined area where we know where the aircraft is. We don't know exactly if it was flown to the sea manually (ditching) or out of control. We know it did not explode. But even with that the zone to search is huge with a deep ocean floor with currents having done their work for a decade. There are two plausible theories: - There was a rare chain of event with fire and other incredible malfunctions and decision leading to make the aircraft get away from every thing. - Someone with a very good pilot experience on the Boeing 777 made all to make it disappear as his/her culture does not accept the blame of suicide on the family and the Captain met the criteria of this pilot with a recent mental breakdown with this kind of culture and knowledge. This is the work of hundreds of experts who have dedicaced their lifes to aviation accidents and 10 years of carreer to this mystery. I read the investigations reports. I'm a former private pilot from Reunion Island where the flaperon has been found. I respect the work of these professionals. Sadly as they are not entertainers and good vulgarizers, BS in the medias are more taken in account than the hard work of honnest peoples. I've already lost some colleagues in crashes, it happens when you're in aviation during all your life. I know the importance of finding what happens to get closure. Believe me. Pilots are human. They get mental breakdowns as anybody, they can go crazy. They're not superhuman and a plane this size with this kind of system can still easily be lost in the ocean today. We are not that powerfull. Accidents and crazy decisions happen without an extraordinairy reason behind. Friendly

On a big jetliner one can hide 5 to 10 stowaway or high jackers inside the electronics bay or it can be open inflight and turn off whatever equipment transponder, ACARS you name it OR fiddle with parameters disable this and that, the possible battery fire in the cargo bay is a good one, but say the CEO lied about for something the CEO does not know, CEOs are into NUMBERS they dont know about payload or type of cargo if they are classified as this and that OMG thats toooooooooo much for me

Using ACARS data and the 777 manual (load, fuel usage, etc.) chart from the RAeS lecture (on YT - but I disagree with them. Just using their ACARS data and 777 chart): The ACARS data shows the fuel usage at (once altitude has been reached) 700kg/5 minutes, or 8400kg/hr. Now, looking at the estimated weight/altitude/fuel usage chart, it may explain why the pilot did not question being at FL350 (instead of FL370). The plane was simply too heavy for that altitude. The ACARS chart shows the gross weight at 492,520 lbs. which equals 224,000kg. Now, going back my original calculation of 8400kg/hr fuel usage (4200 per engine), and looking at the chart, it equals 270,000kg gross weight at FL350 for that fuel consumption level. So, if you take the 270,000kg minus the ACARS reported gross weight of 224,000kg = 46,000kg or 100,000lbs of extra weight not accounted for. And, at the 8400kg/hr rate starting from 17:06 UTC (FL350 achieved) with 43,800kg of fuel remaining, it only allows for 5hrs,12 minutes, of flight time, or 22:18 UTC.

Don`t confuse acars with the FMC flight management computer , as you say the FMC gives all the figures for fuel /load / altitude etc , the ACARS is a reporting system that is used to the airline operator control office , flight planning and clearances , no one has mentioned that ACARS also gives out position reports maybe every 20 minutes to the airlines operations ( not ATC ) ,

@38:15 or so, slow the playback down a bit and watch those orb-objects as they circle the plane. Notice the smoke trailing from the plane shows up on the infrared, because it's still heated by the battery fire. The trails being left by the orb are instead, dark, meaning they are leaving a cold "contrail" so to speak. That's another reason I believe Ashton's theory is pretty close to the explanation that makes the most sense.

Re the rubber band comparison (from 1:05'20") with Maxwell's equations and "scalar physics" which are correct for normal use, but when the original 20 equations were reduced (by Oliver Heaviside) to Maxwell's 4 equations, we lost the "scalar potential" so when the medium of "space-time" is "stretched" to its limit - that is where only 4 equations reach their limit. I suggest you take another look at "The "Universal Force" equations "Derived From a More Perfect Union of the Axiomatic and Empirical Scientific Method" (using all the original 20 physical equations) by Dr Charles W.(Bill) Lucas, Jr. in his Vol.1 of the above named publication, which incidently derives all forces - including gravity - in one equation...

Yeah, only a few months ago Mentor Pilot, an airline pilot & aviation KZbinr, did a video on MH370 which was entirely prompting by recently developed method of tracking planes by radio interference which largely agreed with the satellite tracking while providing a far more limited area to search that, as that videos posting hadn't been searched Also, oceans are massive & trying to find a plane in one without having a really good idea of exactly where it touched down is like looking for a needle in a haystack, heck I've watched some videos about folks using sonar to find submerged vehicles to try & close cold cases & sometimes they have to check the same location multiple times across seasons or years before they finally find the vehicle they were looking for & these car vehicles in lakes or rivers that are generally less than 75ft deep, whereas an airplane at the bottom of an ocean is miles deep & generally not in one piece meaning you're looking for a region of a bunch of small unusual sonar signatures on the bottom of the ocean and/or relying the few submersible drones in the world that can go that deep & hoping someone notices something on the camera feed. The black box locator "pings" make finding submerged planes much more practical, but they're batteries only last for so long & radio waves typically don't transmit very well in water having a reduced transmission range compared to broadcasting in air; Basically trying to find anything in water is a challenge, trying to find a plane in an ocean is way more grueling

The pilot could theoretically pull the circuit breakers on the ACARS, FMS and other systems. However, pilots are not trained in ALL the systems to the level of detail of every item and what controls it. There are system manuals in the aircraft which will show every system and what powers it, in the event there is an issue and the captain needs to contact their ground maintenance personnel to troubleshoot a malfunction.
@ernestv104 ай бұрын
10 years ago I as an amateur, theorize simply that a fire caused a problem w electronics, causing the pilot to fly blindly. The captain knew instinctively, and approximately where there was an international airport was so they could land and immediately turned in that direction. But for some reason, he could not find it or became incapacitated, and eventually, MH370 crashed in the ocean.

Ashton is so full of $hit. The flaperon did drift from the South Indian Ocean as proved by the modeling performed by experts in Ocean Currents; specifically the Indian Ocean. The Flaperon was made of a honeycomb material and it floated and turned in the water. A specific side was never submerged underwater for an extended period of time. And Boeing did confirm this Flaperon did match MH 370 based on the serial number. Furthermore, is Ashton better equipped to discuss what electronic parts of a 777 can be turned on and off than 777 pilots with over 20 years of flying experience? Go listen to the experts in aviation Jean-Luc Marchand & Patrick Blelly or Capt. Simon Hardy who flew 777s and was a pilot for BA for 20 years!!
