That's what separates Tampa from Polk.. They have a rap video about Grady from actual residents. Some kids made the video.. One thing I really enjoyed about home were the fruits and seafood. We hardly paid for the fruit growing up. So many groves some usually go and picked the fruit. Our grandparents had mangoes tree,avocados,kumquat,tangerines,and guava. The fishermen always returns to Port and come to our town with tasty choices. Boy,do I miss all of that.

You missed me! Lake Wales is the center of the country's population this year, not only that but the best citrus in the world come from here, we do have a few BBQ joints and the famous food truck P.R. Tiene Sabor. To visit and learn a little history there's spook hill and Bok Tower! And the people from Lake Wales is the most friendly and humble I've seen in the whole country.

Eh I don't know if I'd consider it "low crime" community. In this video he only went mainly through down town a little, near Central, down 1st street past the Seminole appt. a few times, down Washington to Florida ave to Spook Hill and back to Burns Ave. and I saw him go by locations of at least 4 murder scenes. The most recent one being the quadruple murder at the Sunrise Appt. on Old Scenic Hwy. Well technically one of the was the killing of a K9 officer in MLK Park but to me that's still a murder scene. Then you have the murder in downtown at the Insurance agency. Where the man went inside and set two women on fire, one of them 6 months pregnant. Both women and the baby died. Just a few nights ago a man was shot in the head in the neighborhood behind Walmart. A month or two ago there were two drive by shootings in two separate neighborhoods. It's getting crazier and crazier and the population is booming with the building of several new appt. complexes and subdivisions so I don't see the crime rate decreasing anytime soon.

They also have a lot of really OLD houses that just look really run-down and ghetto. And also, Lake Wales plans on boosting the town up ALOT, I'm moving to lake Wales soon and my house is in a very expensive community and there's more of the same community's coming, they also are planning on renovating or destroying parts of the teeny tiny ghettos they have plus adding more shopping places and restaurants. and expect at least 10-15,000 ppl coming/moving to lake Wales in the next 5-10 years. Not trying to be disrespectful but its not actually that bad. 🤭🤠

According to Neighborhood Scout with a crime rate of 32 per 1,000 residents, Lake Wales has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes including the smallest towns to large cities. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime is 1 in 31. Within Florida, more than 88% of the communities have a lower crime rate than Lake Wales. When you compare Lake Wales to other communities of similar population, then Lake Wales crime rate (violent and property crimes combined) is quite a bit higher than average and higher than most. Violent offenses tracked included rape, murder and non-negligent manslaughter, armed robbery, and aggravated assault, including assault with a deadly weapon. Lake Wales's rate for property crime is 26 per one thousand population. This makes Lake Wales a place where there is an above average chance of becoming a victim of a property crime, when compared to all other communities in America of all population sizes. Property crimes are motor vehicle theft, arson, larceny, and burglary. Your chance of becoming a victim of any of these crimes in Lake Wales is one in 39. Lake Wales crime index is 9 with the safest being 100. This means LW is safer than only 9% of US neighborhoods. Oh and btw, if you think that living in "a very expensive community" excludes you from these statistics then you're sadly mistaken. Mountain Lake is only considered the 10th safest community within LW and it is protested by not only a gate but by more than one security guard at all times and anyone coming in or out has to check in through the guard station and if there for something such as a delivery, must be accompanied by a security personnel at all times. Yet 9 communities are considered safer including my neighborhood and it's a normal middle class non gated community. But you go on believing that having money keeps you safer.

Fun fact. The area you stopped and enjoyed the view around 29:50 you are on the highest point in the peninsula of Florida. Bok tower is the absolute peak but you’re literally right next to it. Also, if you look at the Florida map you can see “Lake Wales ridge” from space it’s this long brown line right down the center of the state.

Yes I was wanting them to turn around the whole time because Bok Tower is almost directly behind them. Also fun fact that Bok Tower is a "headstone' of sorts for Edward Bok who was buried just outside the brass door. It's a national historic landmark

I'm from LW born and bred! Left a couple of times but back now. I enjoyed the fact that you were interested in the HOOD instead of focusing so much on the HIGH RENT areas. Would've been nice to see ALL of our lovely town but you can't in the time frame that you video in. You should come back and see how many new homes have been built in the HOOD and how much the downtown area has changed since you did this video. I went to Bok towers a few years ago and we stayed at quite an interesting hotel/motel. I don’t recall the name but it sits on a small lake about 1 mile from the tower and is made up of a number of small buildings that were moved and connected in the 20’s. Been there a few times and really enjoyed the room above the restaurant that had a balcony and a dumb waiter which they used to send your food up to the balcony. The room also had a round bed about 8’ in diameter. This place was a true gem.

I Worked for unit 6 Polk county roadway. That was my district for roadway maintenance. It is a bit of a dump, there are some nice places... If you own a citrus farm. They do car shows downtown on Saturday night. Some good back road street racing out that way too. As well as an outdoor rifle range right behind Rural King,

I moved to Lake Wales back in 2003 and got the brunt of the 2004 hurricane season that tore central florida up. Back then not much there to do outside Eagle Ridge Mall or drive to Winter Haven for everything else. Good to see things are better now there was a nice quiet place. Lived off Central close to the lake.

Old does not mean hood. Why does everyone call old towns that do not tear down and modernize everything hoods? Lake Wales does not care if it looks like it is in the 21st century, everyone is happy there with what they have. The basic old houses were built back when many orange grove workers were there before the machines took over. Mostly migrant farm workers now there. At times Walmart and Winn Dixie makes store announcements in Spanish before English because of the population ratio. Lived there 2003 - 2005 and never felt uncomfortable anywhere I went.

After you left the old downtown area you took a trip through the worst, slummiest part of town. You should have gone east to the lakes and the "high rent" district. 100 year old homes built across from Lake Wailes and Crystal Lake.
