Blond girl saying Hungarians don't get sarcasm might be more of a language issue if she doesn't speak Hungarian and they don't speak English well . From my experience Hungarians are very sarcastic , way more than the typical American , however I understand the language .

@@karinneeskens Blindingly brilliant addition to my comment ! (stated in a sarcastic tone) Typically sarcastic people actually get others sarcasm . It's a witty means of communicating . I doubt Blondie speaks Hungarian so she likely doesn't get an insiders view into the culture and the Hungarians she might be dating may not be able to understand what she is saying in English or express themselves in English. It takes a level of fluency in a language to be able to get sarcasm , be sarcastic and have it understood .

Yeah it's very accurate :) I'm from PL, and it's rather normal, that in first few weeks of dating, you'll be asked for your plans or so. Ok, maybe not to live together, but at least of your plans. I rather wonder why all these people are so surprised. Isn't it obvious, that when you don't clarify your expectations on your own, when you are constantly "walking around the garden", you'll be asked straightforward to do that? Just: bro, name your needs, directions and values in your life :) if you don't know them, so how do you want to build a relationship? You want only affair, or what? What do you need me for? What are those meetings about? Ofc things are changing, and younger generations introduce more of those "situationships" or ghosting used as default method of managing relations, but it's still seen as sth ridiculous and sort of disorder. On the other hand - the younger the person, the easier to talk about emotions straightforward, which older people usually can't do. I'm moving to Norway, and my first priority is to have a handful of meaningful and close relations. It costs a lot of hustle and frustration, but there is no other way to meet my needs there. I understand that independence is a part of Norwegian culture, but it comes with loneliness as a cost, which I don't want to pay. I don't need that much of independence :) Norwegian culture have a lot to offer, but its attitude towards relations is not its strongest part, so I decided to not take it for me :)

I resonated with the Polish girl a lot. I'm Slavic too, and my husband is Hungarian. I always felt like I'm rather old-fashioned when I lived in Western Europe. Hungarian guys are the best; judging by my many colleagues and friends here, they are hospitable, caring, NOT judging, and family-oriented already under age of 30. There are exceptions of course. I couldn't imagine myself in a relationship with a Western European guy anymore tbh.

On the marriage/family aspect: maybe emigration is also a huge issue here? All former Eastern bloc countries have this problem, but it seems like in Hungary it‘s been a particularly big problem in the past 15 years. I remember when I first visited Hungary in the early 2000s, there was still this euphoric, post-revolutionary mood all over the place and people were looking brightly into the future. From what I hear, this mood kind of vanished, and nostalgia is now creeping in.

I'm guessing the United States is the least committed country in relationships. Woops, I spoke too soon, it's Latvia. Interesting.

Why Latvia has the lowest commitment rates? Faulty research methodology, that's why : D No way in hell we're higher than Portugal in "living together unmarried" and divorce rates. I'd love to see the actual research paper but couldn't find it :D

The things ain't that good with the marriage rate as you'd think. As great as that 6.7 looks now (compare to Latvia's 4.7), the truth is that marriage rates been dropping since the 70s; from 9.9 (1975) to 3.6 (2010-12). From 1996 to 2015 never been more than 4.7 (Latvia's "worse" today in Europe), 2009-2014 it was even below 4. The goverment in 2015 decided to give money to young, married couple who promise they'd have a child (more children = more money). That is the reason why the marriage rate went up, not because people want to be married. And it looks like the bubble has burst already: 2021 - 7.5, 2022 - 6.7, 2023 - 5.2 (for 1000 people).

True. I'm Hungarian, aged 51, and have a 34 yo brother. In his surroundings I know plenty of rushed marriages made only for the so called "child benefit", that all ended in divorce within 1-2 years. The problem is that when you apply for the benefit, you oblige yourself to stay married and have three kids with your spouse in 10 years of time. So the young, divorced couples are in a huge mess these days as they have to pay back the loan, a money they obviously do not have.

Here in Hungary, the moral and emotional intelligence for correct 'situationships' is mostly lacking. Here, they don't understand why you should be fair and respectful to others who don't want to plan long-term with you, they think it's an insult, maybe their self-confidence is weak, or they've had a lot of bad experiences with people. For example, why would you hold the hand of someone with whom you had sex before, but you know that you are in a 'situationships' - they do not understand this here.
@AndreAndre-yd5gw15 сағат бұрын
Nah, you don't get hungarians. We don't conform to your foreign culture. You come here and you better conform to our culture or if you don't like it you can leave.
@annab318414 сағат бұрын
Situationships by definition are when one person is interested in a committed relationship and the other person isn't and is using the other one. The term you're looking for is friends with benefits. In other places men mostly pretend to do the "correct non-relationship" and be feminists so they can get what they want. Regardless of what they say they have no respect for someone they're not official with because most men's minds still live in the 50s in many ways - consciously or not. So it's almost better if men say how they actually feel from the start.
