Hey guys!!! because you demanded it, in Weekend Wankshop 185, Uncle Ben Eller here is gonna show you guys the real way to play the intro to Quintessence by Mastodon off their incredible Crack the Skye album!!
Not a lot of accurate lessons/tabs on this one, and with good reason! This one is full of Brent and Bill's typical wizardry, with lots of hybrid picking, open strings, and strange harmony. Its a blast to play and a great exercise for your hybrid picking chops!!! I'm also gonna give you all some tips of fretting and muting so you can keep this riff squeaky clean.
There's SO MANY other great Mastodon tunes off of Remission, Leviathan, The Hunter, and more in need of accurate lessons, which should i do next?!

Ok, so this is just the first uncle Ben video I searched for. That dumb b string! Is fucking smart! When you tune the B and E to C and F it makes all the scale shapes all weird and stuff. Thank you Uncle Ben for making me ask myself why that damn dumb B string was so dumb. I finally get it I feel so dumb. This fret board is starting to make more perfect sense every day. and its all thanks to rad dudes like you.

in the 3 hours since i posted this I've just been up toying around and i just get it now. i know scale patterns I've never played before and how they fit together isn't even complicated. i didn't even learn anything new i just understand what i knew better if that makes sense but it was that little push i needed to just get it. when i look at a fret-board it just makes sense now. its like i knew how to speak Russian and what words kinda meant what. but then it just clicked and now i really understand Russian. that's the only way i can word it really its like my brain is truly understanding a foreign language for the first time.

I recently got myself an Ibanez RG and I love it, but the fretboard is kind of wider than my previous Charvel/Kramer-ish guitars. So I'm kind of struggling reaching on the fretboard where I could reach before. What's your experience/thoughts about that? Thanks!
