Okay, let's check the numbers. Total MLAs and MPs in India around 4914. Assume every state and Parliament had 15 elections since 1947 and every MLA and MP was elected for only 1 term (Which is not the case), the total number of MPs and MLAs eligible for pension will 7371 (~74,000). And they draw a pension of 1 lakh pm (Which is again a higher figure). The annual pension bill will come around ₹8,820 crores. And now compare that with defense budget of India which ₹6.2 lakh crores.
