How would you rig up for maximum catch, tackle, bait etc., if effort and expense were no object?
@EISAlaska3 ай бұрын
That's hard to say. There's not a lot more you could do on a boat our size in regards to improving gear. Line could be added to the reel if the spool were bigger, letting us fish more hooks per day, and so then buying more hooks would be necessary. But really, we set ~1200 hooks/day we could probably push that to ~1500 or so, but anything more than that, another crewmate would be required. It just gets to be too long of a day and not enough man power.
@edmundhenderson65593 ай бұрын
@@EISAlaska I was thinking a couple of things. Put a float on the droppers to keep the bait off the bottom. Also putting a good swivel next to the hook might make for more hookups. Ever tried live bait? Very impractical I'm sure but it would be interesting to see what it would do. Could you fish live bait on your reels in a good area?
@EISAlaska3 ай бұрын
The floats are something we've thought of too! Probably a wooden one of some sort, since the depths would crush foam overtime? Maybe we'll experiment one of these days. We have about 20% of our gear swiveled on the snap end, they certainly helps to keep the fish on. We'll keep raising that number as we build more gear. ooAs for live bait, nah. Like you said, its just not practical. Since we don't have a live tank (its filled with the catch or ice), and also baiting while setting would be impossible to get many hooks on.
@edmundhenderson65593 ай бұрын
Hadn't thought about the crushing but you are probably right. A swivel right next to the hook helps the hook rotate into position as the hook is pulled out of the mouth. Really helps with hookups I think. Standard with drum rigs on the outer banks now. The way they do it is hook, then 2 or 3 inches of 100 lb test mono, then a good swivel. Might also try bait cut into long strips that look like a fish. Anyway it would be fun to see you try a few an d see what happens.@@EISAlaska
