Got to live on the island back in the late 60's as a kid. The place hasn't changed much. Been trying to go back for years. Maybe someday. King Crab Festival was the big thing back then. Jake Amokanak was the talk of the town. Seal skinning and crab racing on big boards.

Glad to see that all your hard work has paid off and finally out on the Emerald Isle. She looks beautiful and also very functional. Matt, offering your hat to the fishing gods didn't help much with the first two fish coming over the rails were a dogfish and a big skate. But then again maybe it worked, and they allowed you to get that beauty 60 incher! You guys are a great team and its fun when you bring us "landlubbers" along. I do think though, you will miss not having stabilizers on board in rough seas. Hopefully the next sets will be strings of 30-pound fish!!! Tight Lines. Karl

When I worked construction we used to use scraps of Romex to tie up our extension cords after coiling them as there's always scraps lying around the job site when the electricians are done and you could use that same wire several times before the copper cores would break and you could just grab another at the next job site or if you lose it just snag another.

Oh that's handy! We're loving it for the tie, works great. Unfortunately, no herring, seems the porpoise cleaned them out.

I really appreciate when you show the beautiful views you get to enjoy every day. I know when you're close to beautiful landscape, and you grew up with it, it can become mundane, just blending in as normal. But for many of the rest of us, you live in an incredibly beautiful environment.

We always love to read comments like this. Like you said, there's many things that don't stand out to us but might to others. One thing is for sure, we do appreciate our "office" haha!
@chriskulpa405618 күн бұрын
Possibly because I started out in the city until I was 13 and now live in the "country" the last 40 years but I still appreciate the drives through a wood lined highway that hasn't been made into a subdivision yet from the urban sprawl of the suburbs or a farm field of grain or hay or the one farmer that plants an entire field of sunflowers, but yes, it is so much nicer to appreciate the nature around you. There's quite a few lakes in Livingston county where I live and there's just something calming about being out in even my kayak on the water that you just don't get anywhere else. Except maybe around a bonfire watching the flames lick the escaping gasses off the wood in the fire.

Those star fish types must breed every couple of years and are thicker than flees on a dogs back for a while then die back, I don't remember you bringing up so many in the past. Matt I know what it's like to lose a favorite hat, five or six yrs. ago when we were still living over in Tillamook, OR I was walking out a pier in Garibaldi, OR to do some fishing when a gust came up and lifted my hat off and threw it in the bay. That was my favorite hat, it was a straw hat with a wide brim to keep the sun off the neck, I miss that hat!
@EISAlaska20 күн бұрын
Aw, it's always the favorite isn't it? Nice and broke-in and comfortable. The wasting disease the starfish had was 4 or 5 years ago now, so its interesting how many have come back. If I recall correctly, they say it killed ~90% of the population from Alaska down the west coast of the US.

Thanks for watching Christian, we’re having a blast! Big change from the Fish Tale. We're excited to get out on her. We also look forward to giving the FT some love next year.

Shake down cruise, fish to come later. Just gives more time to check things out. Matt, question for you, is there anything left visible of the steel hull of the I believe the FV Cindy W? If memory serves me right, she ran aground about 1970 on Left Cape, probably not its been over 50 years. Just remembering growing up seeing the hull of that steel sailing ship that went aground inside Monoshka Bay. Sorry, I had to laugh when you made your offering to Posiden, I've done that more than once myself..

We've never noticed any remains at Left Cape but we weren't aware of a wreck there either. I'll have to watch for it next time. The one in Monashka Bay is still there, but only a little bit of steel left nowadays. I think the plating is all gone, and there was just some frames left.

nice way to christen the emerald isle , how was the rocking without the booms . are you going to put them on ?

She handled the seas well, a bit rolly when taking it on the beam, but any boat is going to in the trough. Bucking into it and in a following seas she handles excellently. We'll certainly be adding the stabilizer poles once we wrap up the halibut season.

You guys didn't end up getting any herring in your prospecting runs I take it or were you able to find some?

Lol I'm sure you are a little apprehensive now that you're on the bigger boat a lot safer for the bad weather

Yep! Nice to have the first trip jitters out of the way. Everything worked as intended with very few changes needed. We have already gone through a bit of weather. It's safe to say that she can take a bit more than the little Fish Tale.
