The fish tale looking at the Emerald Isle coming in proud after its first productive trip reminds me of the children’s show Thomas the tank engine watching Gordon coming home proud after a days work. All Thomas can say is “hi Gordon” and Gordon responded is “Hi Little one”

Well the Emerald Isle looked and worked brilliant for her maiden voyage,awesome footage as always ,you guys make everything look so easy. Got to admit seeing the new boat with a big steering wheel strange as Fish tales had like a joy stick if I remember right? Stay safe guys
@EISAlaska7 күн бұрын
Thanks, gazellis! Everything went so smoothly! Yep, we actually don't even steer with the Fish Tale's "joystick" haha! We use the knob on our autopilot control which controls the direction of the rudder. The Emerald has a bit different of a system, since it has a steering pump hooked up to the engine.

What a trip!! I love it! All the hard work has paid off! I said this before. Emerald Isle will be fishing for your family long after Len has retired. Got a question? When you become a processor and you’re not tied to a shore outfit. How will the ice work? Buy it? Or have an ice make on board. Your friend Eric
@EISAlaska7 күн бұрын
Great question, Eric! We'll have to buy ice directly from a plant. Usually around $150/ton. The good news is the fish hold held the first shot of ice we got for a crazy long time.

That bigger boat can handle the larger swells better than the venerable Fish Tale. Thanks for the scenic views of Alaska. It hard to Imagine that where you're sailing about 20 thousand years ago it was all dry land at one time, a crossroads for the megafauna during the ice age.

catch some halibut,head home to Kodiak Island,cut into 2inch cubes,soak in buttermilk for 3 hours,add your dry coating of choice and dredge again and back to panko or flour mix and into oil at 350f.halibut bites are so good,miss it as im in NC near outer banks and flounder just isnt the same lol. I use GEE today-clarified butter- has 450f smoke point and so good.Dad opened the airport on kodiak in 1967 for western airlines,parents also were house parents at kodiak Baptist Mission for 5 years,I even fished in bering for king crab on Patricia lee early 80s before joined Coast Guard and stationed 2 times on kodiak.

If you run 1550rpm, I think that's your best fuel consumption is. It sure spreads the water off the bow hey? Great run, a blessing fully. Woohoo ❤️🇨🇦🍻🇨🇦❤️
@EISAlaska7 күн бұрын
We're curious what the fuel consumption looks like! We haven't had a way to really gauge it yet since we don't have sight glass on the aft tanks which we're running off of. Very happy with how she scoots along though!
@GoldVP...7 күн бұрын
@EISAlaska it does move well. Full holds would keep you more stable. What about having those fins that hang off the sides? Can't remember what they are called
@william65268 күн бұрын
The Emeral Isle seems to weather the heavier swells better then the fish tale.im sure once you get the out riggers on her she wont roll as much and be a lot more comfotable in rolling seas. She sure seems to run great and the amount of room you have to work is fantastic. One thing I would like to see is your sleeping berths and where you guys get rest on your over night trips. I may of missed it when you gave a tour of the boat ,but I don't remember you ever showing where you guys sleep. Do you ever target ling cod or are they just bi catch when you cod fish.
@EISAlaska7 күн бұрын
Yep, we'll certainly do a big tour of the boat once we wrap up fishing. Ling cod are by-catch only here, we usually catch them when we jig for rockfish.

Looked like you could have used those stabilizer poles that haven't been remounted, that could have slowed the roll out there.😊 So what was your landed weight on that load of halibut? So that cod you caught is ending up as bait eh? When we were jigging cod we never ate any we had halibut or rock fish for dinner as far as fish went. We did eat burgers and steak we brought with us from Kenai, Kodiak prices were crazy.😮
@EISAlaska7 күн бұрын
The staby poles will make a huge difference. We did use the cod this time for bait, more value that way since the cod price is so low anyway.
@zerog50418 күн бұрын

We don't have to pay for the ice if we deliver to the same plant. Same thing for the offload, they take the fish off with their own crew.

What’s your fuel consumption? My boat, w/2 lemans ran about 6 mpg @ 900 rpm. 6’ keel
@Retired-nohurry8 күн бұрын
When you are out overnight, do you eat prepared meals or cook fresh, and of course do you eat fresh fish.
@EISAlaska7 күн бұрын
A mix of the two, depending on how tired we are. Sometimes we'll eat canned stew or something like that, others we'll put more effort into a good meal. Fresh fish are also a staple on our journeys.

hi, when it comes time to re-power consider an IH 466 roller cam engine they were in light, medium duty trucks and buses, no computer, 250-300 hp 800 ftlbs torque, would make that yacht sail, not highly expensive, reliable, easy to get parts anywhere,
