I was 'only' driving the ball 210 yds with driver and it was making me crazy. I was constantly trying everything to add distance and nothing worked. I just kept hooking and slicing more and more and losing balls constantly. Then I just accepted I'm not going to be able to Boom it like other people do and instead focused on keeping it straight and smooth. Low and behold, my drives started creeping up to 240+... Amazing. The last round I played I tried to be as smooth and confidential as I could whilst being mindful of my setup for hitting up on the ball. Result? Only 1 fairway missed and easily 250+ every drive, even hit one 270. Thrilled. And when I finished the round my arms and back felt better than they ever had before. Less is more boyfriends!

Thx Matty Boom-Boom. I used your “way of the playa” today for the first time for an entire 18 holes and had my lowest scores in months, a 94 on a 137 Slope course with the greens running 13.3 on the stimp. Only one lost ball and just two 3-putts. The ⅓ putting, ⅓ chipping, ⅓ range practice philosophy is paying off. No hero shots, a few lessons, and a track man session this week to learn my real distancia (I was one club off from what I thought I was hitting), all added up to a great round for me. Most importantly, you lowered my expectations of what amateurs can do and I feel totally better about my game and myself. Breaking 90 is around the corner!

I’m an athletics coach. A regular Joe asking to get faster at the track, would require better technique, coordination then at least a year of regular training. Most people can’t commit to this. Even at elite level, athletes rarely train at 100%. Yet I’m seeing the golf industry think they’re unique by recommending uncoordinated amateurs with poor technique, all sorts of tips and tricks. Get fit, strong, work on technique and you’ll get faster.

I’ve recently refined my swing and am hitting more accurately off the tee. Incidentally, I also hit my longest in play drive ever (measured on the course, not counting driving range) at 318 yards. Being able to strike the ball more accurately will naturally increase distance for the reasons you said.
@MichaelSisley-fw3xr4 ай бұрын
I have a 48 " length driver I use to calibrate my timing. I use it as a training aid. It forces me to slow down and really feel what I am doing. After a few shots, I can get it going the right height, direction and distance. All of your body parts must function together and in order. I switch then to my 3W on a tee. It seems effortless to hit them straight and I get 225 to 235 IF I remain smooth and like you said not trying to act all overly strong and go as fast as I can. The only thought is smooth and easy. At my advanced age, I will live with that distance I am getting. You are SO RIGHT about penalty drives from the tee. Water, sand, out of bounds, woods, all are terrible. I do not carry a driver. It does not reward me in any way. I do hit 5W or 7W a LOT from the tee and that 3W when I can. I have a 16 handicap. Being a short hitter, I do practice mostly on the shorter clubs and putting. Those are my money shots. All of my irons I know my distances with a half shot. That alone is like having twice the number of irons. I spent 28yrs in the Army, infantry. I have trained a lot of soldiers. We have a saying, smooth is fast. We worked on drills with weapons to put them in action smoothly, zero mistakes. Once smooth is achieved, tiny increases in speed will naturally come. Smooth also allows the potential for accuracy (given all the fundamentals of shooting are correct, much like a golf swing). I love your videos. You motivate me to do better with my golf. My war against poor golf can only be won by winning the mental side of said war. (course management, high percentage shots, eliminating lost balls, etc.). THANKS!

They're the same distance as the 5 hybrid (or less) and the ball is probably going to the next zip code. I've taken over a dozen lessons and I hate them. The instructors are like "do this, do that, that was perfect, do that again" Me- do what? I know what to do but it seems like my body can't replicate it reliably. The only thing I get from lessons is tired trying to wail on ball after ball.
