It was actually micrograms actions which mass produced underwhelming armour. Lore is an after thought like why the elites look different. Halo reach didn't have microtransaction and yet in the lore many different companies made their armour. Microtransaction was the biggest factor in this as they could add less halo looking armours and also restrict the good looking more memorable halo reach and 3 armours behind pay walls like the memories of reach pack for example where you pay a hefty sum to get very little but it's halo reach so of course the fans will get it. A cash grab for 343. One I hope they'll learn to stop doing

And if we’re being completely honest the main reason why there are so many armor sets was so 343 had something to fill the Req Packs with so they could make some good money selling them.

@@roosty2266 the more limited customization was a result of struggles in development, have you ever wonder why H4 doesn’t have full armor sets and plenty of armor only has the chest, shoulders and helmet? Well it wasn’t lack of creativity, was a result of extremely short time to develop such ambitious game, In H5 was even worse due to huge last minute changes, bad engine, new hardware, etc., people tend to believe many of the issues in H4/5 were result of incompetence from 343, or with evil intentions, but nobody bothers to tries to see it from their perspective, the task wasn’t easy

I don't care if you would want to play that game, it's not Mario as he was established. Unfortunately 343 are putting emphasis on what you put on top of the armor and not the armor itself. Interesting, the lore reflects the reality of H5 armor development. The lore explanation is kind of curious though, it seems risky from a strategic point of view, by opening up Mjolnir armor development to third party companies the UNSC by course made the specs of Gen 2 Mjolnir public knowledge. Seems that'd make it relatively easy for private groups or civilians to get their hands on functioning power armor. Are the next wave of insurrectionists going to be decked out in pirated power armor?
@AscendHyperion
@AscendHyperion 3 жыл бұрын
Funny enough, the flavor text of some of the armor hints at this issues. Certain armors are virtually illegal and pose massive privacy breaches. The Buccaneer armor is assumed stolen, the Olive helmet is the product of a rogue programmer, and they dont even know who made the Shinobi armor. Wild west of spartan armor
@unknownpack5717
@unknownpack5717 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think such variations in armour is smart from a strategic standpoint. Why not just use one standardized armour set that is modular in design to add attachments and what not. Why would the UNSC want such variations? Why can't they just make it a compeition for best design and contract them to produce in mass?
@AscendHyperion
@AscendHyperion 3 жыл бұрын
Well, in a way what youre talking about is what is called the GEN II Platform, which is the, let's call it "Operating System" that is used for spartan armor. Essentially, a contractor takes the GEN II platform and builds a specification onto it, in order to achieve a highly focused product that would have been impossible in GEN I. Now there are armor sets from Halo 5 that aim to do exactly what you mention. Marauder for example makes improvements on the GEN II platform but are intended to be more modular. Some GEN II armor is mass-produced, like Recruit and Warrior.
@alexfrost2799
@alexfrost2799 3 жыл бұрын
@@unknownpack5717 variation makes more sense when it comes to Specialization for specific tasks. As a result, Spartans now have sets of armor that are better at certain tasks (EVA, EOD, underwater, tracking, long-distance observation, etc.). Yeah, Spartans should be a jack-of-all trades soldier in theory. In reality, though, Spartans are beefed-up and modified humans, who are already not the same and have different strengths and weaknesses. No amount of modification to a current set will be as good as a set dedicated to a specific task. Take the difference between the M4A1 and Barrett M107. Sure, you can _try_ to modify the M4 to be as similar in function as the M107, but at that point it is practically a different weapon altogether. Same principle goes with the MJOLNIR Gen II armor

It's a gamble the UNSC/UEG was willing to take politically. They needed more assets after losing everything in the war, they had no choice to go public with everything for in return get needed assets. It's no different than the real world, an example is the nuclear weapons program, the US was hesitant at first, but gave in to the friendly nations to keep the balance of power against the Soviets during the cold war, for that, information is freely public how to make dirty bombs & nukes, if a terrorist organization has to will & means, they WILL do it. So far, Governments around the world are working around the clock to make sure material assets & the weapons themselves don't fall into the wrong hands, it's only a matter of time really for cracks in security for someone to make one or obtain one.

I'd also say there's a couple other issues going unmentioned. Number one is that, no matter the rose-tinted glasses, there were some not-great looking armors in 3/Reach. For example, I personally think Halo 3 Scout looks really squashed compared to the two later iterations of the armor, and as much as everyone loves Hayabusa, its shoulder pieces do struggle to match with any others. Similarly, I think Reach ruined EVA from its H3 incarnation, and I've never been fond of Commando's helmet. Hand-in-hand with those statements is number two: personal preference and execution of ideas. Legionnaire is actually a really cool, logical way to take an armor given the Roman influence behind the UNSC. It makes sense they'd base an armor off Roman Legionnaires! But because it's so unique, it comes across as strange. Finally... there really is a cherrypicking problem. People complain about all the bad armors, but there really is not enough love for the good ones. Helioskrill's the big one, but there are plenty of less notable armors that look fine! And honestly, I'd go as far to say there've been some armors improved in H5 - up until Reach PC came out with its improved graphical quality, I was of the opinion that the Legacies of Reach armors (Vigilant, Indomitable, Wrath, and Intruder) looked a lot better than legacy NOBLE team.
@reachingnoblenoble8493
@reachingnoblenoble8493 3 жыл бұрын
I agree with quite a bit of what you said, although, some of my personal tastes differ, I would like to mention that I think one of main problems, at least for me is that even a lot of the armors that are less wild or even likeable, are still cluttered with useless details and are simply very different style wise than what had been established in other games and even brought back as legacy armor. I know that sequel must being change, and in game time goes on, but the jump was really drastic. Also, I know the general art style differences between the Bungie and 343 games is a topic of it own but I think it's valid as this falls under style.

I think that the variety is nice. There is usually something for everyone, and people have different tastes. Some people also dont think for themselves and jump on the bandwagon, hating whatever someone else likes or doesnt like just because they heard another talk about it, with no real analysis from themselves. And some people just have regardless. For me, it's gotten to the point where I genuinely like seeker. Is it my favorite armor? No, but I think it's sort of cool. The armor itself adds to the undersuit which i cant recall another armor in halo 5 doing that. The helmet is loud and so unique, its grown on me. Some of the paint jobs could be better, but it's not overly disgusting. However, it certainly does not come close to anything before it, and this I can see why people disapprove from an art style perspective

Yep. I knew this from day one from Halo 4. Just common sense that's not so common anymore, people aren't thinking deeper. It's like getting Russian weapon manufacturers making stuff for the US or my country Australia, you're gonna see inconsistence visual design between military assets.

Personally Id actually appreciate reach and 5's customization, but in the style of the classic games. (In Halo Infinite) I get that 4 and 5 have a bad rep, personally I don't like 4 or 5 as much, as well. But you have to appreciate that 343 gave us many customization options for Halo 5. It doesn't make up for the micro transactions, but then and again, it's just what I'm stating.

I wanted knight based armor, not exactly the Achilles armor but more like For Honor, just think of the possibilities, instead of creating armor from pure imagination, why don't we use inspiration from time itself. Then modify it already existing form to create something new, yes I can see how that could be a problem for many reasons, lack of raw material, lack of said imagination and creativity in the design. But, if done correctly could be game changing for both the game itself and the players, just think of the amount of people doing castle wars in knight armor or watching people sword duel in samurai armor, (yes I know there is the Shinobi armor and the raider helmet in h5) but the amount of creativity coming from the community alone would be both crazy and full of style.

I get that 343i didn't have total control over the creation of the different armors, but they're the ones who set the framework in the form of the artstyle. Not to mention they're completely capable of performing quality control before implementation. Many of the designs were straight up trash honestly, and the fact they didn't give any of them the boot prior to release is entirely their fault. And the addition of the different manufacturers into the lore was put in place to justify said lack of quality control. Let's just acknowledge that there were many bad, non-halo designs through and through and not let them get away with doing in again, if they do

I want to see stuff like the one set with the heavy bevor we saw with the December inside infinite.

Kolaar Manufactorum, The group that made Helioskrill. The concept of multiple different groups creating their own stylized armor is cool, but it didn't work for two reasons. 1. The armor was randomly earned (For the most part) through loot boxes. 2. The armor came in two pieces, Helmet and Body, unlike the Halo Games directly prior. If we had the same control over the body pieces in Halo 5 as we did in Halo 4, Halo 5 would still get slammed for Micro-Transactions, but people likely wouldn't have cared so much about the "Stranger" armor sets in the game.
