My first teaching job was at a school in the countryside in Khao Chang Prain. I learned so much about life in my short stint in what was also one of my most difficult times. The people of the village were brilliant to me and would do everything for me. They never asked for anything in return and always protected me as a young man of 27.Same went for the principle Mr.Wannachai and my students. I remember my last day of teaching at the school and had to turn my back to one of favourite classes who were 17-18 the years old so they could not see I was upset but they knew and came up to console me. Even now at 44 I recognise this as one of my happiest times. I hope someday I get to return.

I mean, it's a double edged sword. While there are some good things about less "health and safety" regulations, it means more kids on motorcycles without helmets getting into accidents, which is unfortunate and people having no qualms getting shi%faced and getting behind the wheel, because they know there are no consequences. While the former is not really THAT bothersome to me, the latter is something that really isn't acceptable and I can't stand when the rose colored glasses apologists defend it. That's just me. I feel like people have the right to be out on the road and not to have worry about drunk drivers, of course, there are drunk drivers all over the world, but when people aren't held accountable for their actions, it's a really unfortunate situation. This is something that SHOULD not be defended, would you defend it in your home country...probably not, so why would you defend it in Thailand? And you know, saying that Thailand is "eternally free" disregards some of the real issues that this country has with actual freedom. I mean, the people can't even go to the ballot box and have their voices heard for Christ's sake, I don't know how much freedom there really is. Sure, you can ride around without a helmet and drive drunk as a skunk, but is that the freedom people actually need when they can't even have a say in their own future?

I was once chastised in Pattaya by a Scandanavian guy because I gave a homeless man some T shirts and shorts I no longer used. I did not like to do this myself because I did not want to feel like a benevolent Farang and virtue signaling so I got a Thai girl in the bar to give them to him. This Scandanavian guy demanded to know why I had done this. I told him it was none of his business if I wanted to give someone who was less fortunate than myself something and mind his own business. Some people are really strange. Anyway enjoyed your video again Ryan...take care.😂

My wife’s family live up north in rural Thailand they don’t have much but they all pull together in their village and take care of each other. People from the west would probably describe their way of life as a life of poverty but honestly what little they have they share with each other and they are happy. Going there and seeing how they live and how they get along together has been a real eye opener for me. Keep doing the great work you do and enjoy living your best life. If buying some helmets for the children in your village makes you feel good then do it. I am pretty sure doing it will be well appreciated by the families there and who knows you may save a childs life.🙏

The villagers are probably buoyed by their simple lives. In Britain, people are greedy and the more they want, the more they get, but they don't necessarily want to earn that right. It makes life complicated and the more complicated it gets, the more unhappy people get. I retired last year at 53 years old. I've never felt so happy. My life is simple. It has less people in it spouting far less crap...which means there is less gobshytes in my life. I loveit

As I prepare to move to Thailand, I am getting questions like - "Will you have an inside toilet?" Yes, stay true to who you are and don't shy away from expressing your views. Everyone should remind themselves however, to express themselves in a respectful, even toned way. Our worldview is shaped by experiences, interactions and views of others. Be open to those differing views. Blunt, dogmatic, disrespectful people are difficult to like. Vloggers need to remind themselves that commenters simply criticizing their view or how a video is made, does not make them "trolls" - any more than a vlogger is a troll for taking a critical view on a particular subject. I don't believe it is the case with this particular presenter, but all to often, vloggers have very thin skin and quickly become defensive in the face of criticism.

Hi Ryan, been following your channel for at least a couple of years now. I have lived and traveled in Japan and been to Hong Kong and have kept up on asian culture in various southeast asian countries for many years now. Your commentary on not being an ATM was good advice from someone who's lived in Thai culture for awhile now and that advice also applies to other asian countries, and countries in general as well. It was just common sense advice, nothing less, nothing more. As you said, there are westerners who travel to some of these countries looking for a wife who are otherwise pretty lonely and socially inept and a target for those who would take advantage of them. This could occur in any country around the world but the advice to be safe, be aware and to not let yourself be a target is something that hopefully others might take into account and use that to find a partner who will genuinely care for them regardless of the thickness of their wallet. Enjoyed the walk around the neighborhood, but especially the end where you arrived back at your home and there was the boys and your wife waiting for you. Like a ray of sunshine! Keep doing what you're doing, I can't remember a time where I regretted watching your videos and many times when they have put a warm smile on my face. 🙏

Famous quote which sums it up to perfection.... "Haters gonna hate". Always have and always will. Karma dictates it's just revisited upon them, thankfully. Re helmets, we've all bumped our head on a door, a cupboard, a lamppost or whatever. In Bangkok I once walked into a signpost I'd not seen as I was talking to my daughter, walking behind me. A lot of blood, not insignificant amount of pain and EIGHT stitches to my head later, it occurred to me that a "brisk walking pace" (and I wasn't even going that fast) is around four miles per hour. What state would my head have been in, had I been travelling at 20, 30, 40 or more MPH? Hardly bears contemplating.

I wonder if the US is worse than the UK? i just watched a video of an elderly gentleman in the US that murdered his disabled bedridden wife as he couldn't deal with having to take care of her when he had his own health issues. The police were at the house early in the day and he kept telling them that he can't take it anymore. They asked him why he didn't check with a social worker which he said that he did and got no help. A few minutes after the police left the house he put a gun to his wife's head and shot and killed her. In a country like Thailand this elderly man could have hired help and the people are so respectful to the elderly. But in the US the middle class cannot afford to hire anyone. The folk in California are all for immigration as they depebd on hired home help as they earn better salaries than anyone in the US and can afford to hire them. The US should have allowed for immigrants from Thailand and especially Philippines because they are good caregivers, innto the US. They did not do this and we have a crisis in the US. I wish you could give us your take on why you think the UK has failed. i know here in the US i need to get some plumbing done but i cannot afford to pay them those high rates. I took my vehicle to the repair shop and they gave me an estimate of over $3k. Most people would put it on a credit card but i don't have that luxury as my credit was destroyed when I got sick and couldn't work and lost my home. But the cost of living is through the roof. If the US had taken in plumbers or car mechanics and in every area i think things would be much better now.

I love to learn of your real life experiences, you dont have to explain yourself, what you say is true in most cases and in other cases some individuals are switched on and quick to learn,as is the way of life.

Everything I own is here in Thailand so luckily I have somewhere to store it. I think your well balaced in your views. Everyone is different. I get on with everyone but I'm not a drinker so my life if a lot different to most. Watching walk down that road makes me realise what I'm going to miss while I'm away. Great Video Ryan. Interesting video :) Honestly though when you look at it, English people are some of the jolliest folk considering what we go through. Going back years and years to post-war depressions, economic turmoil, high levels of taxation, job scarcity, horrendous rainy weather and harsh winters, we always find a way to have a laugh and a joke somewhere; especially Northerners, It definitely gets worse the further south you go though, having lived / worked in Cambridge (elitist, old money families, complaining, overly sensitive etc) I liked your talk on self honesty, i think this is why a lot of youtube channels fail, the people just aren't authentic to themselves.

I agree with your views about having opinions, ok you are not going to be right all the time but you are entitled to your opinion. I have been to Thailand many times and find that going out to villages and talking to the what I call the true Thai is not just seeing a different side to the country, but also what you were saying they do not have a lot but always seem happy and friendly.

Forming one's own opinions does not require speaking one's opinions out loud, does it? I think that it is the latter, which tends to get some of us in trouble (yeah, I am one who cannot keep his opinions to himself... lol) There is also having/speaking your own opinions and ignorantly parroting the opinions of others. I also think it is the latter which tends to frequenty get society at large in trouble. Thanks for providing so much food for thought. Watching your channel helps to keep my aging brain active.... :)

Thanks Ryan. I think it's great you are a mature thinking Farang in Thailand, who can speak Thai and talk about life. It's quite okay to express a reasoned opinion. You shouldn't worry too much about those who protest about anything. Those who protest are doing so unseen from behind a profile on the internet. They have no willingness to accept you have legitimate, well-meaning opinions that you're prepared to express publicly. How can you understand the viewpoint of every other person? You can't and viewers should know that. So don't worry about the loud protesters who may very well just enjoy attacking others 👍🏻

Hi Ryan, everything that you said is spot on. I guess that being a vlogger is hard work and being criticised is to be expected and thank good ness we all have different standpoints on things in this world of ours. Life is not necessarily about being liked or disliked, it is about being true to yourself and sticking to your own rules. You can admire someone whose views you do not agree with but who is consistent and honest in their views. There is one vlogger who produces daily vlogs, and on camera says that he doesn't mind if people disagree with him, but then blocks all those who have other views to his! Real friends accept people for who they are and can have disagreements but agree to differ. There is a lot to be said for the simple life and just dealing with things on a daily, happy level. Also in villages in Thailand there is a community spirit and people are genuinely happy if someone does well and commiserate with and help those less fortunate in a quiet but practical way. Overthinking things is a curse suffered by today's society and I include myself in that. Now at 76 years I realise that simplicity is best. God bless you Ryan for being you and being true to yourself and family. 😀❤🙏

Blunt but uplifting honesty. How to square up an Ahole - A wise man, a Priest, once told me: “Don’t deal with people, deal with issues” Get a professional, a Lawyer or whatever and sort them out. Life’s for living 🙂 I don’t care for material things anymore. Chasing my tail to acquire expensive things that are just stuff. The only thing that really matters in life is being loved. I just wish I was as level headed as you are 30 years ago. But I got there in the end.! Smile on …

The words "know thyself" or Gnothi Seauton were inscribed above the entrance to the temple of Apollo at Delphi in Greece. Although this phrase has been attributed to Socrates as well as Heraclitus, Pythagoras before him, This is one of the 147 maxims of the Delphic Oracle, which is important throughout Greek, Roman, and late Western philosophy. Their origin is unknown, but they appear to have been put forward before the time of the Buddha. Lao Tzu said "knowing others is intelligence, knowing yourself is true wisdom. Buddha taught that the sense of self is an illusion.

I think humans are the same, whether good or bad. No one is perfect; some people are lucky, and some are unlucky. The most important thing is to know ourselves, recognize when we do good and bad things, and adapt to the situation. Accept our mistakes and make amends by doing good. For me, I remember better from watching videos than from reading books. When I watch your videos, I feel like I'm in a classroom or the library, and I also learn a lot from them, which helps me greatly.
