So I was playing through Yoshi’s Island on the Super Nintendo for the 17th time the other day when I realized something. This game isn’t even 3D! What am I doing with my life?
While Nintendo was excited by the success of the 3D effects developed by Argonaut Games, they weren't done yet. What they needed now was a title to fully utilize the development and show off its potential. This brings us to what would become StarFox and the debut of the Super FX chip.

I rarely comment on KZbin, but I wanted to say that these are some top quality retrospectives you've been putting out. Makes it hard to believe that this channel doesn't even have 700 subscribers yet. I'm no expert on KZbin, but I think if you keep doing what you've been doing lately, this channel will become very successful - or at least I hope so because it's now among my favourites.

That really means so much to me. I wish I could say I knew what I was doing, but I'm just making stuff that I think I'd want to watch and I hope you all enjoy it. The fact that people can give me almost an hour of their time is still so wild to me. Thank you so much though for the kind words. My list of videos to do is still HUGE and I'm addicted to this now lol. Here's to hoping you enjoy what's still to come :)

Retro thrusters are a real thing though. Retro just means backwards, so retro thrusters or shortened to retros on the Arwing are forward facing thrusts to slow the craft down. If you wanted retros on your car, you'd need wheels that spin that in the opposite direction.

I'm only like a minute and a half into the video I'm so glad you got those old commercials talking about bits! You will probably mention it later in the video since I'm saying it now, but one of my Wolverine comics has a 2 page ad for Neo Geo, the only thing on the pages is a set of Steel silver balls with the headline reading "you have to have a pair of these to play one of these" advertisements were so much better and so much worse back than, I love it! I know that's a little off topic but all of those old ads reminded me of that
@Zerbraxi

There's definitely a charm to how visceral, and almost condescending, a lot of advertising was only 35 years ago. I think it's mostly better nowadays, though I do have nostalgia for the raw trash talking that used to go on.

I remember asking my mom for this game for my birthday and showed her something from Nintendo Power similar to 2:30. Then she noticed me watching Hey Arnold on Nickelodeon and commented on how the characters were drawn. Then for Christmas I asked for Earthbound and showed her another Nintendo Power ad. I overheard her talking to my dad about how she was worried I was getting too interested in weird/creepy shit lmao. Ended up only getting some SNES hockey game.

Wait hold a second, whats with the label on that Yoshi's Island? It's shaped like a NTSC cart, but the label is totally different. Unless it's just PAL, but I thought PAL shared the Japanese cart shape for some reason.

That there is called "15 year ago me spilled whiteout all over my cartridge and thought it would be fun to use a fan made label online" Yoshi's Island label. I actually make reference to this, along with another game in my collection that had a similar fate, in my digital vs physical video.

You can press select in the space levels to bring the view back to third person. Just in case you didn't know. Yeah, Star Fox 2 wasn't the first game with view switching. I think you can even do so in Star Fox 64 as well. And well, Star Fox Zero does it too. Only with two screens to add to it.

I did find out near the end of my time playing that you could switch perspective. I didn't mention it in the video, but mostly because I wanted to discuss the levels "as intended" so to speak. Something I didn't know is that you can switch perspectives in Star Fox Zero? As in turn the cockpit view onto the TV? Is that what you mean? PLEASE tell me that's what you mean. That might change SOO much of how I feel about that game.

I picked up Star Fox on Wii U on clearance for $5 due to the completionist recommending it, however 99% of everybody else says but that game is hot garbage so I have a new copy collector's edition never opened and I spent five bucks on a used copy so I could actually play the game oh, but I still haven't done so it's on the backlog as well, I've been putting it off because I hear the control scheme is really hard to wrap your head around and it's much easier with a second player but I don't know anybody who could play with me so it will stay on the backlog because I'm kind of intimidated to try it.....Myamoto says it's the most underrated Wii U game....so I'm at least interested 😅

I know 64 in and out, but the original has always been too tedious for me and never really played it. It looks like they hadn't yet fleshed out the idea, of what the Star Fox team actually is? Because the general refers to "his arwings" and keeps asking, how they do. Is the Star Fox team supposed to be a crowd of especially skilled pilots - without own ships? I dunno, I really like it in 64, how they are simply mercenaries and get hired for defending the Lylat System. And how they present their bill in the end. =)
@Zerbraxi
@Zerbraxi 6 ай бұрын
The jump from the SNES game to 64 is pretty substantial and easily why having a remake so soon after the original entry is completely overlooked. In some ways the SNES version still does have some higher points than 64, Space Armada stage is actually nuts and such a shame to be absent from 64, and the SNES Corneria theme is WAY better, but in general it's a wonderful remake. Also, I read your last reply and didn't comment over there but I'll do it here. Yes, I do use Davinci Resolve and thank you SO much for the advice and tips, especially on the sound effects being mono. All of my editing is completely self taught and with that comes some very silly and overlooked mistakes lol so the assistance is super appreciated. I'm more cognoscente of it now and while currently editing the Star Fox Command episodes I'm keeping my eye out for such issues.

@@Zerbraxi The channel I am setting up will coincidently about a cartoony fox character to be the protagonist. I am planning to have one episode showcase, what I'd like to have as a new Star Fox game. My character kinda jumping in for Fox who's on...... vacation or something. An original 64 Arwing taking the role as 2nd main character for this episode (though as my own enhanced visual design). Despite it being awesome beyond believe, we gotta see if I could pull off such an ambitious project. But if my channel would be successful and our in a bit of money, that I could use for hiring someone to help me with it, it will definately come. About DaVinci, I used to solely work with Adobe Premiere. About a year I needed to start with DaVinci because of my new job. It was hell at first, because DaVinci is much less intuitive than other programs. It takes quite the effort to get into it and especially understand all the stupid querks and also, bugs it comes with. I was so lucky to receive some training in it, and today I am a pro. Finding out new ways to get something better done than before every day. I could give you a whole list on what you could probably do to create your videos more easily. Feel free to ask questions about it. I am giving you 2 tips right here, that opened the eyes of some people before, who didn't know about it: 1) Use Fusion for effects and also digital camera motion and zooms. Getting keyframes to properly ease in and out in the Edit page is a pain. In Fusion, you can use a node system (every node is like a layer above the other, one effect comes after all before it) And it works way better to ease keyframes. For doing so, select the node, in the bottom right you can select keyframes, and for easing them reliably, just press Shift+S. To have harsh keyframes, press Shift+L. 2) Use Adjustment clips. You can find them under the effects panel in the edit page. Adjustment clips get placed like video clips. But they are basically an empty shell, where you can place any kind of adjustment and effect in. And since they are placed like video layers above each other, the effects stack respectively - an adjustment clip will affect everything below it, but not above it. This way you can have effects and adjustments in different clips to grab, it doesn't all need to be within the actual clip receiving the effect. Also, selecting anything on the timeline and pressing D, you can disable/enable it. Hell, if you would be open for that, we could manage some kind of video call at some point, where I can show you all this stuff. Certainly works a lot better than over text. Whenever that would be an interesting idea to you, let me know.

Hyrule IS screwed 🤣 do you remember when I was having disconnect problems with my USB Switch controllers? Turns out they are just cheap 😅 the wire connection spot is micro USB and doesn't do well to get pulled on very hard and my little guy doesn't always watch where he is going and he has tripped on the chords a few times usually resulting in the controller going flying but he's done it a couple times to each remote and it's damaged the connector inside both of my USB controllers so unfortunately I won't be able to use wired switch controllers, so it stinks, but at least it's not my Switch that's messed up. I've actually not played many console games recently, I got my 1st PC, (Asus Rog striggs g16) I know absolutely nothing about computers and didn't have any media devices that were 4k capable so being able to play games so absolutely clear its blowing my mind, new games, old, Metroid Prime for instance there is so much the environments that I never noticed before it's almost like playing them for the 1st time or at least a remastered version 😅basically I'm enjoying the PC much more than I ever thought I would

Hey there! Sorry for the later response than normal. Took a MUCH needed break this weekend and just finally played some games for myself on Saturday. Also went on a good couple hour hike this afternoon. Phew! I love my games, probably more than I should lol, but getting away from working for a day or so is nice. Good news that it's not the Switch itself. Still unfortunate because some of the controllers, especially good ones, aren't cheap. Better that though than the console itself. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your PC! I leaned mostly into PC gaming for the majority of my life. While I've almost exclusively covered console games on the channel thus far, it's hardly been my main focus over the years. Any particular games you've been playing? Any that you are excited to try? You mentioned Metroid Prime. Are you playing that on PC, on Dolphin? If not, I do believe that Dolphin has a 4k 120hz support patch for all 3 of the Metroid Prime games. When I eventually cover those games on the channel, this is almost definitely the way I'll be recording them despite owning all 3 plus the trilogy collection. Can't wait to hear more about your PC gaming journey in the future!

@@Zerbraxi I'm super late to the Tomb Raider Renaissance, been "trying" to work my way thru it, it's kinda video game junk food ingaging enough to keep me interested but easy to jump back into when life keeps me away from "serious" game playing time. Absolutely! Gotta have a life outside of looking at a screen, I've been building my little guy a club house out of recycled wooden pallets but it's going to be usable for camping winter or summer (mosquitoes are horrible here) and it's in position with my fire pit and projection screen so it's just as much for me as it is him 😂 I was using dolphin, just a quick test I played the opening sequence just long enough to see how i could run it (resolution, fps, anti aliasing etc) played a little crash insane trilogy, had it on Switch, so to see it at 4k resolution with 60 or better fps is pretty shocking, I've never really considered myself a graphics guy, I'm a Nintendo kid so obviously I'm not, but making such a huge leap in visuals after playing on what basically amounts to what the Xbox 360 is capable of for the last 15 years (ps3, wii U, and Switch have been my most current consoles for some time so visually all very similar) the leap in quality reminds me of being a kid when it was SNES to N64. Yes graphics have improved, but since the Ps2 Era I've kinda stopped being impressed by new hardware due to the leap not being so drastically wider. Wow....that was a rant 😅 glad you took a brake, don't burn yourself out, remember "if you aren't having fun, your not doing it right"

the difficulty and simplicity of the original Star Fox is it's selling point to me. You just suck at Starfox. Get better or die, that's the trick.
