Whenever someone starts any sentence with "no offense". that's usually an indicator that something offensive will follow.

The female recruit should not have bothered with "no offence"; the phrase just sets people up to get pissed about something because it makes them automatically on edge.

He almost punched the instructor. We tend to view "almost" in the sense that whatever it was missed or was further along in the process (i.e. winding up the fist). "Joe" was in the mental state of doing so but someone else snapped him out of it before "Joe" could go further along the line.

My dad used to tell a story about his basic training at Fort Jackson. They were in tents like the ones in M.A.S.H., with screen doors. Out of 200 men, dad figured there were 18 college grads, about 150 high school grads, the rest never finished and several were completely illiterate (apparently the army had a reading program to try to help those guys). Few had ever been away from home. One of the men in the neighboring tent would get homesick, and one of his tent mates (the antagonist) would ride him about it until the guy would would cry. One of my dad's tent mates was a tall black man named...I think it was Isaiah. He came into the army weight about 120 pounds, but at the end of basic he was pushing 180 - had access to food for the first time in his life. Dad was very fond of him, and always described Isaiah as one of the most gentle souls he had ever met, but one night, with the guy driven to crying again in the other tent, Isaiah got out of bed and said "That's enough." It was pitch black, but dad heard their screen door open and shut, then the neighboring tent's screen door open and shut. Then seconds later, one solid "WHACK". Then dad heard the screen doors again, and Isaiah returned. Dad says "What happened"? and Isaiah says "I took care of something". The next day, the antagonist's face is a wreck. His eye is so swollen it is almost shut, and he can barely open his mouth to eat breakfast. Dad asks him what happened, and the guy says he walked into a door. Some door. He never bothered the homesick guy again.

Needs to be proper mental health screening before going into training. Met a kid that had autism and was passed through on Parris Island. Dont think that kid will ever be the same. For most people, that place would be enough at most to keep that anxiety of fucking up in your mind for years to come at most, that kid might as well have been tossed into operation desert storm. Probably still replies to his parents with aye sir, no sir, aye maam, no maam

John Cable My brother was an infantryman and went to Ft. Benning. When we went to his graduation they were at the part where they do a bunch of marching and there was this one platoon that became off sync on their marching and it was very noticeable. After the ceremony when we took my brother to town he asked if any of us noticed that platoon and we all said yes and then he told us that the DI that was in charge of that platoon was the worst one (in terms of attitude) that has been at the base in years. The next morning when we picked him up he told us to drive to this one part of the base and pointed out that there was the platoon from the other day and told us they had to wake up at midnight and do exercises all night. Sorry if I got the terminology wrong, never been in the military and I've never learned any of that stuff.

@@bigmac7077 DI's are allowed to defend themselves if assaulted by a recruit during training. I remember during 2nd phase one of our DI's always had a loaded M-16 with them when we were in the field. I never knew why til much later. Because of the availability of live ammo on the range and during field week, there was always a fear a recruit would snap and try take out another recruit or one of the DI's.

When I was in boot the alternate or nighttime drill sergeant got mad at the platoon. The platoon won all the ribbons and to him we where smarting off. The drill sergeant threw his cover and top off and stated we deserved to be taught a lesson. Unknown to the sergeant we had a professional boxer that was in boot just to be an army boxer. The drill sergeant got the shit kicked out of him and was released from instructors duty the following day.

Hey mate true story. My 45 on the rake didn't pass the protractor inspection the CC pulled my rake apart, overturned my sea chest. Massed me until my lips fell off. After getting in my face, I could feel his nose hair against my nose (didn't touch me), explained what a ASMO was. And explained that I would collect my Navy pension before I graduated Boot Camp. I gave the 3 mile stare and didn't make eye contact. As he turned to walk away, I exclaimed (mumbled under my breath) "I like to put a ice pick in his back". I didn't think anybody heard me. That day forward my nick name was...yes "ICE PICK". We graduated with all the flags and that included the big & little "E" flags. We were the first company to pass in review, and, lead the Division. The same CC asked me to carry the big "E" flag as we past in review. That night after review, on our first liberty, he came to the E-club and bought us all a round. So now I got pissed because I couldn't hate that SOB.....damn Gunner's Mate! True story.

Well that sure was clickbait. The only time you mention any sort of punching is at the end when you say that the lesson is to not try and punch the instructor. Meanwhile the story you told had nothing to do with punching. All he did was get up in the face of the instructor. Sure he might have punched him if things wen't any further but you didn't even mention the possibility of that while telling the story.

No, he would have gone to federal prison, then gone to seps, then got tried in the civilian justice system and possibly gone to jail again because double jeopardy laws don’t apply for the military, I’ve been to seps with people in that situation and seps sucks I was there for 3 months, my division graduated weeks before I came back to the civilian world

They had a place in Boot Camp for people like Joe in the 80's. It was called PosMo. A separate unit the trouble makers were sent to. The name is short for Positive Motivation and the unit was ran by the Seals. Intense small group training with trouble makers who either completed PosMo and restarted Boot Camp or were eventually kicked out at unfit. This was in the Navy in San Diego. Saw a huge ass Seal manhandling a Posmo recruit when we went to report in from our perimeter patrol. I do not know what the Posmo recruit did, but he was definitely regretting it.

SEALS? yah you're full of shit. Maybe BUD/s duds but not SEALs, think about it like this there were only 260 Navy SEALs who served in Vietnam. 36 we killed that left 224 to run BUDs and man at that time two active SEAL teams. Do you really think they were sending Navy SEALs to straighten out recruits with attitude problems? Me thinks not.

There's a story on reddit about a real punch. Hot headed arrogant dude comes into a room where drill sergeants are planning stuff and starts yelling at his drill sergeant. They just sit there calmly and watch him leave after a minute, likely just planning what they'll do to him. Five minutes later he comes back and punches his drill sergeant square in the face, angry at getting no reaction or response. Last time the witness who told the tale saw the recruit was when he was escorted away in the back of a military truck, never to be seen again.

The sergeant should be sent to take Karate classes. The first thing they teach a white belt is how to block, and punches to the face are the easiest to block.

I saw many conversations between the drill sgt and the troop, went something like this, "troop, you know your left from your right...yes drill sergeant...drill sgt: I DONT THINK SO...then stomps the troops left foot and says: the one that hurts is your fucking left."...a week or two later we are marching along, happy with our marching improvement, when the drill sgt jumps like he was dunking a basketball and slaps a troop in the middle of the formation on top of head, staggering him, then remarks "stop bobbing your fucking head, you are not a pidgeon"...yes we had some team building conversations with the drill sgts...

I'd watch it if you go USAF maintenance. You'll deal with the day shift jerks who break everything and you gotta fix it on night shift. Its all work though man, no matter what you pick, there will always be poison, and always be fun. Depending on what you pick, you'll pretty much end up smelling like fuel at the end of your shift for maintenance jobs. being USAF is fun though, cause anytime my bro and sis call me chair force, I just grunt back saying, "Y'all to dumb to think of anything else?? Naawww I love you." With my hands making a heart shape of course.

As an Army recruit, I was in an progressively louder argument on the CTA. A drill Sergent came around the corner to see what was happening while yelling 'What's going on here?' The glare I gave him made him take a step back. Granted, if I had been stupid enough to swing (and the DS or other recruit) I'm 100% positive that DS would have wiped the floor with me.
