I was 11 and couldn't get a enough of this scene. The combination of seeing main engineering, the saucer separation, view of the main and battle bridges, and then shuttle bay 2. The Galaxy Class starships were a thing of beauty and I really do miss the Enterprise- D.

Then, while the Borg focus on the perceived real threat, the shuttle is launched from the saucer section to effect the rescue of Captain Picard (the only use of the Shuttlebay 1 in the series). The antimatter spread serves to obfuscate the Borg sensors and screen the shuttle's approach.

And then I saw the conclusion and was like they're going to RAM the Cube? Does that mean some clever transporting the entire ship's crew elsewhere...as they just kamikaze the Cube?

No, if the captain ordered the enterprise to target the cube and jump to warp, humanity would have been hanging in the balance and there was no time to evacuate the ship. The cube might destroy the enterprise or get away, you have to simply sacrifice the ship and the crew to destroy the cube in most circumstances, if you cannot stop it or destroy it by other means. Letting it reach an undefended Earth was not an option. Billions of lives were at stake, and an assimilated Earth at the heart of federation space means trillions more lives would have been doomed. Were it up to me, I probably wouldn't have waited when Data requested that I "standby" without offering an actual alternative with the request. Either you have an alternate plan right now, or I am ordering the helm to engage warp engines. Frankly, I might just disregard. Cannot risk the cube getting to Earth, time to die in the line of duty. That's the correct call, it's just that this is a TV show so, we can't kill off the cast like that. And we can give the characters on screen some brilliant last minute solution that conveniently works. Were it real, the correct call would have been for the fleet at wolf 359 to kamikaze against the borg cube once it was clear the battle was lost. Not just one ship, all remaining ships. Make sure it cannot reach Earth. There is no kill like overkill, and when it comes to the Borg, you have to shut down every single one of them, or kill them all dead, or you're just going to be assimilated anyway. That's the fate of countless species that came before humanity... Well, actually, not true. The Borg did keep count.

I think it's a flaw in the effects that Worf and Data see the nacelles of the engineering section at 3:30. The saucer had long since moved away from the engineering section ("hundred meters per second and increasing") and they did evasive patterns alpha and beta, those would be at impulse speeds so wouldn't the engineering section be millions of km from the saucer?

Riker’s never lied to Picard which means he’s always told him the truth

No, he's withheld the truth from Picard before, without lying to him. He concealed the secret mission to create a federation phase cloak, by simply never speaking about it. It is possible to not tell a lie while also not telling the truth. In fact, Riker is doing much the same here. "Time to prepare our people for assimilation" means time for the federation fleet to be reassembled and more time for Earth to prepare defenses, for the assimilation to come. The more Riker delays the cube, the better humanity's chances are. And there was every risk of the enterprise being assimilated as well. He also told Locutus he was going to intervene right before he did, and concealed his plan to retrieve Locutus from him. Very good walking the line between lying and telling the complete truth, not that Riker owed Locutus the truth at all.

He was conscious he just had no control over himself, there is a scene during his assimilation where his skin tone fades to gray he has a tear run down his check. After being rescued he mentions remembering everything including being responsible for all the federation ships destroyed at wolf 359. The reason Locutus referred to Riker as number one though had nothing to do with Picard trying to reach out, it was just the Borg taunting Riker. When Picard is first turned to Locutus he tell Riker the knowledge and experience of Picard are part of them know, he then goes on to say resistance is hopeless number one.
