5:00 Got a really funny story about Aha... My dad had to take my sister to see them with a friend and they had front seat tickets! Anyway, my dad used to be in a band in the 60's and is quite well known still in the music world back then. So my sister was in the front seats, and my dad met one of the stage hands who remembered him and he was let in to the VIP room with the band and hung out with them before they went on stage... 😂😂🤣🤣😂😂 As you can understand after the show when my dad told her, she was gutted!

Believe it or not, Simpson is still in business and the 260 VOM is still being made today in all its glory. It's up to Series 8 now and I'm pretty sure yours is a Series 3. Other than being able to have and an LED light now, they haven't changed much. It's a truly legendary piece of test equipment.

They remind me of the AVO meters we used back in college in the early 80s. They were ancient even back then. AVO was the manufacturer I believe named after Amps, Volts and Ohms. Much more fun were the Meggers. A kind of crank-wound generator that produced thousands of volts, but negligible amps. We had great fun wiring them up to each others workstations and zapping the bleep out of each other. It never got old.
@aladdin4d
@aladdin4d Жыл бұрын
@@TheDavidPoole Yeah that was the British Simpson. Or if you're British, Simpson is the American AVO. I think they quit making the traditional AVO 15 years or so ago and Megger actually owns the brand now.

Some give me the tide information, some I can snorkel with, some look classy, some are all analogue, digital, or a mix, some are super tough, and some have fashionable colours. • I still have my old Casio calculator watch I got for Christmas when I was about 9-ish. The band broke a long time ago and a pin hole where the band's pins hold them in cracked & broke hence why I am not wearing it today. 😀 • Interesting tidbit: Americans are mostly unaware that a-Ha is still producing albums and touring. They are huge in Europe, of course. I think their 11th album dropped in Oct. 2022, after a short band hiatus. (I love their Living Daylights song for the Bond movie of the same name.) • Terminator/Back to the Future CROSSOVER?!?! Take my money now! • Harleyfractic just commented: "I'm going to be a superstar? Yay!" (Yes, she is as fun as you think she is- except at bedtime.) • I would love one of those little arcade machines! But I am borderline inept to put my Pi 3 inside and get it running. HAHA! Do they have instructions printed for goofballs like me? • Does the air purifier do toast on one side? 😀 • Ant Attack! LOVE that! • That 1993 pen drawing was pretty cool! Kudos! • Peri's Full-Circle Star Wars letter… priceless and heart-warming. A wonderful retro show as always. Thank you Lord & Ladyfractic!

Another magical RRetrofest with another superbly calming RRetroshow. It is like Valerian for the soul. Harleyfractic is fast becoming a legend in her own lifetime. A star of both today and tomorrow. I was never able to complete "It Came From The Desert" successfully on the Amiga. So the new game might be interesting. Was the music during the unboxing inspired by "Suburbia" by the Pet Shop Boys? It was vaguely reminiscent of that piece. Great to see the Knight Rider Court video showcased. That was a very audacious prank he pulled. The MIDI SID music reminded me of the progressive rock movement from the 1970s. Great production by the Laird and Lady of Retrotopia.

Another Doctor Who link in this episode - in the Rainbow clip you hear Zippy talking. Zippy's voice is provided by Roy Skelton, who also was a voice for the Daleks in some stories. And for another David Tennant link - he was in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, a film who also had a cameo by someone else who looks vaguely familiar! I forgot to check the wand store at the end of the Harry Potter Making Of studio tour near London (after seeing David's and a few other cast members in the vast array of names), however in the queue to get in before the pre-show is a number of large stills on the wall and one of them is the Weasley twins in their old form after trying to trick the Goblet, on of which (Fred) I believe is a certain Perifractic.....
