This would be perfect for the return of Russ. A huge battle raging with Guilliman and Angron at the center. Guilliman trying to mustar all his might and skill, but Angron is either taking ground or forcing him to a knee. Angron feeling that he has won, raises his mighty axe to deliver a killing blow. Guilliman bracing to block. As Angron raises his axe overhead, as flash of golden light grabs his attention. Angron is swiftly snatched off his feet, sending hurdling back into his forces. Guilliman in complete shock hears a voice, all but forgotten. "Last time we met on the battlefield, I sought to teach you a lesson. A mistake I intend to not repeat. " Angron raises himself to a knees, his chest burns, his armor cracked. That's when he see a golden shaft sticking out, the emperor's spear. Howl's echo over the battlefield and vox coms, Russ and his sons have come to join the fight.

I'm taking this in another direction. With half the Imperium bathed in darkness, it needs a primarch who is at home in the warp. I think Corax returns and fights against Angron, maybe he even has the ability to banish Angron himself. Imagine a giant Raven like warp entity fighting against a giant warp Demon monster. I also think it could be symbolic. Guilliman is always bathed in light, he is the leader of the light side of the Imperium, Corax would fit as the leader of the dark Imperium. I would love for it to be the Lion but I think we get thrown a curve ball here. There's also Ghazghkull out for blood. He could possibly banish Angron with his strong latent psyker potential.

The return of Angron and the World Eaters sounds like a great plot tool for bringing back Astartes groups at the legion level. What happens with Angron, if he can't be banished back to the Warp, when a Grey Knight sticks a power sword through his mouth and out the back of his head?

@Raft Guy the point of the marines is that they take out high level political and command points essentially making communication and coordination impossible. With how quickly they can move across a planet and their control of space via cruisers and barges they can destroy any remaining defensive forces with impunity. Much of the populace would give up on fighting back after stories got out describing how effective the marine forces are. That said, the numbers are low considering how far spread through the galaxy the marines are.

Of note, this is the 3rd such beacon we have heard of. First was the phaeros beacon found durring the heresy. A second was found and used some time ago by the sisters of battle and managed by an alpha level psyker turned imperial Saint who was taken away by the alpha legion, and hasn't reincarnated similar to how celestine does so presumably is still alive. Now this one. It seems these warp beacons, while still rare, aren't so singularly rare as once thought. Weve seen it suggested that the emporer didnt originally build the astromonican. Perhaps it was originally one of these smaller beacons that he has massively overclocked somehow? And if that can be done, perhaps it can be done again at a smaller scale to establish a string of islands of stability in the warp? Putting one at the sanctus side of the nacmund Gauntlet would likely do some good

I don't think, even taking the nails away from the equation, angron could ever be loyalist. The very second big e made him watch his fellow slaves die for nothing big e sent angron on that path, lorgar just sped the process, angron always would fall to khorne. the only universe he doesn't rebel is the one where big e drops the war hounds on nuceria to assist the gladiators, but he'd never do that because the leaders/slave owners were already a part of the wider imperium

It's not so much "what if Angron didn't have the nails?", as it is "What if Angron was cloned from scratch, with all the knowledge of what his past was and where his choices led him, but without the rage and resentment of having experienced it directly?" Imagine the knowledge of what he became, what he did to his sons, processed by a pure mind that never experienced slavery or the nails. He might very well come to the same conclusion that the Khan did: The Emperor is a tyrant - but that's still a better option than chaos.

Angron doesn’t seem like the adversary the Lion was planned to take on. But, with his whole unbanishable trait, it certainly creates a convenient plot mechanism to slide that in and make it have zero consequences. Maybe he devastates the Rock and takes out the fancy toys they have back there. But then loses to the Lion, who doesn’t have possession of his sword yet. Im fairly confident the dark angels can out tactic Angron. The Lion is one of the better candidates to beat him in a 1v1 anyways. He is THE duelist. But Cypher and Luther are going to be mixed into the Lions story, so who knows what it is. The Somnium stars have the Lion’s name on it. Maybe we will learn a bit about the lions sable?

He shrugged it off, completely, and all that was happening is that he was slowly being drained by the lack of bloodshed because they wouldn't stand and fight him. After kiting him halfway across the continent, he finally became weak enough for Perturabo to dip in, and lay him out just long enough to lock him up. Deploying him like a giant, angry pokémon at Terra. The Lion is a beast, but he couldn't take a fraction of the punishment that it took to take Angron down. Even knowing his true name the Grey Knights were still beaten down like red headed step children, and only due to plot armor was he finally banished.

@@thalastianjorus According to who exactly? Sanguinius was a monster in offensive fighting but nowhere is it suggested he was the best at tanking damage. So technically other primarchs could take on similar damage but it's the offensive output that is the subject of debate. Morty, Vulkan and Perty are the best at taking damage but remember Morty literally beat jaghatai into an unrecognizable mess yet jaghatai was able to run circles around him then decapitate him after willingly tanking many of his blows and the scythe through his guts to prove a point. Infact the only serious blow sanguinius took was a blade to the gut which he used to rip angron's butchers nails and kill him. The lion doesn't indulge in that sort of sentimentality and he's an absolute monster himself in fighting though there hasn't been an opportunity for him to show his beast mode like sanguinius did during the siege of terra. He will be a match for angron demonic boons or not. There is a reason Horus was weary of facing him and/or sanguinius.

Yes, The Emperor's sword can permanently kill Daemons. Valdor no longer has Appolonian, it was placed into storage on Terra when he disappeared and has very rarely if ever been used since. And Dionysian, or The Spear of Russ is a sacred artifact of the Space Wolves. Currently on Garm. Although it is said that during the Wolf Time Russ will return and claim the spear and once again turn it against the enemies of The Emperor. Could the fall of Imperium Nihilus count as The Wolf Time..?

So let's play this out. If the Lion wakes up and doesn't immediately start killing everyone for what they have become and has found some patience during his little nap, has the Lion ever faced daemons? Has he faced a daemon primarch? As best I can recall only Guiliman, Dorn, Sanquinius, Khan, and Vulkan have seen and faced their brothers after they transformed. The Lion knew they were traitors but I don't know that Johnson knew to what extremes his brothers fell to. It might bake his noodle. GW has to spin one hell of a story here. Or they could release a primarch that would make a better fit in Vulkan...

Just as we read in the Siege of Terra series, Angron's ties to the material existence are based on hunting, killing, and venting his anger. He doesn't think about Khorne or doing it for the glory of Chaos; in fact, he doesn't think much at all. He actually dreads leaving realspace, but feels his footing become more "solid" every time he unleashes his fury, and every time he kills. So his desire is that, plus any residual effects of the Nails biting down on him whenever he isn't killing. With the boundaries between the Warp and the material weakened, he probably finds his ties to the latter much stronger than ever. He is in constant agony, and this is the only thing that brings him (momentary) relief. As to Abaddon: he isn't as individually powerful, or physically giant as a primarch. He also refuses to embrace demonhood, giving him a unique position among Chaos powers as he can remain in material existence or in the Warp without being a full-blown slave to the ruinous powers. (And no, the Warp can't just mutate or change someone without some element of surrender.) As a Warmaster, however, one could argue he is better than Horus ever was. He has shown more patience, and looks at the broader picture; whereas Horus just wanted to make a b-line for dad while knowing his vessel of a body couldn't contain the Chaos battery for very long.

I'm still dubious about the return of Lion. As someone who has collected and played Dark Angels for 30 years, I would love nothing more than to see his return. But it's made sense before, it's been rumoured so many times it's getting silly. Plus, the line about 'An ancient knight kneels in victory and weeps' could very well be in regard to Luther. I mean, he's an ancient knight. He just so happens to be free once more and getting in contact with the rest of the Fallen. As far as he is aware, he was victorious in killing the Lion upon Caliban, and let's not forget it kind of broke him, with the threads of his sanity clinging to the belief that Lion would return and absolve him. If he's lost that belief and now thinks he can never be absolved of his sins, he's quite likely to be a wee bit upset. Perhaps upset to fall to his knees and weep.....

The fact that he is now unbanishable, is a good thing for the imperium. It means that he can now be perma killed with no chance of regenerating in the warp and popping up somewhere else.This allegedly is one of there upcoming story arcs to stream line the much fragmented primarch aspect of 40k so they can kill off unwanted loose ends. It also makes 40k easier to understand and follow as far as newbies are concerned which is a priority of there's now as the movie side of things will attract a whole new fan base / and money.

I’m all for them brining some more loyal primarchs. Russ, Vulkan, Lionel come on… gimme one of them. I think Lionel and Russ I would prefer, vulkan can chill on the back burner or right now. Russ and Lionel could really push the imperium out of the decay and really be increase their offensive approach. Then bring back Vulkan, have him idk be on terra working with the emperor. Maybe doing something with the golden throne, maybe letting his dad know he can easily reform yourself should your physical body perish. That my fan theory but I really want some more loyal primarchs. Don’t drip feed us, give us two at once.

Just watched a battle report where Angron fell in the first(!) turn by mere pox-walkers(!) 😳 Man, it was such an underwhelming debut on the table top. 😂 And, yes, I know tabletop isn't lore-accurate but, damn, if that and Perty tanking one of blows after his demonic elevation made me think Dante will be fine.

Oh man, I really like that idea. All that teasing about the Lion returning, and nope - it's Corax, the one loyalist primarch who really is capable of defeating a daemon primarch (Lorgar doesn't count) in a 1v1.

I love the idea, but I genuinely believe angron only cares about lorgar. There's just to much evidence suggesting it, and my hot take is lorgar genuinely cares about angron too, the main reason he took angron on his campaign was to save him from the nails the only way he knew how, binding him to a God that actually would save him, no matter how backhanded the deal was.

Could you do a vid on Angron attacking Imperal Nihilus and the Choral Engine? The Engine was giving Angron huge headaches and annoying him badly so he went full on butchers bails "fuck these guys, this planet, and light machine" and went ALLL out to destroy it. Id love for you to go through that attack by Angron, it would be AWESOME! to hear it from you.

How many times has a demon primarch beaten any non demonic primarch? Angron lost to Perturabo and Sanguinius. Mortarion lost to the Khan, Fulgrim beat Ferrus before he became a demon and as a demon he was beaten, I believe it was the Khan or Dorn who did that. Fulgrim also couldn't seal the deal on guilliman who isnt the guy to beat in combat among the primarchs. Magnus lost to Vulkan (not that he had a chance). I just cant think of a time in which it payed off for them. Of course its the nature of chaos to screw everything up, but it just feels like the demon primarchs aren't as exciting as they could be in the story themselves, and are more just a sign that somebody else will do something notable in dealing with them.

Calling it now! Angrons new ability to return so quickly meets Gazguls waaagh and the endless waaaagh erupts which pushes the orks to evolve to the point GAZ becomes a KORK! And then Abby invades and attacks the Blood angels and Dante has his last stand killing Abby but is loosing the battle and in the last min a reunited dark angles chapter under a newly awakened Lionel Johnson arrives just like ole Bobby G did and starts a crusade to purge the dark imperium of traitors and orks alike!

@@Luciusthestorms "Legion" was kind of a rough number. I believe the T-sons were around 30- 50,000 where as the the Ultras were up to 150,000+. I think the WE were 60-70,000. So, even at 20,000 they could be "legion" strength. If they're Really back to 70,000 they're Eating whole systems.
