We’re missing an important piece of lore here because the Abaddon book series was never completed. We still don’t really know why an Abaddon that denigrates the Chaos legions joined Chaos. Abaddon isn’t his own man no matter what he thinks. His Mark ensures it, as it does for all others who have accepted Chaos Marks.

They know it's just that they can't move against either as of yet. Vashtorr is their one and only arms dealer while abbadon is likely the only one left who can coordinate the long war against the corpse god and his servants. But it's likely like horus he will be used and tossed aside should he fail or succeed.

Abaddon is basically Arthas from WoW. The traffic hero who took on the role of the villain to prevent an actual villain from claiming power. He did thus so that he could limit the damage. He is weakening the veil between reality and the Warp so that the forces of Chaos and the great devourer can be spent against each other.

I think similarly, but at just a little bit different angle. Let's say Abaddon bends the knee to one of the gods - the other 3 would be furious and it will be them who will ruin him. On the other hand it looks like staying "chaos undivided" is not an option. Also i have a head-cannon that Belakor was acting on behalf of (some of) the gods. As it is said they don't dare to go directly after Vashtorr, but using Belakor as a pawn/proxy is the perfect way to both hurt him and still look uninvolved.

Against all that stands in his way. And thats why he forces soldiers to submit to him alone when joining the black Legion directly. I never understood his endgoal. If the Imperium fractures and its troops are left crippled, then humanity will simply not have a way to defeat the other factions. He says he is using chaos as a tool, but after amassing such armies and increasing its power, thinking he can simply banish them away is very hubristic. So if he can at best achieve a pyrrhic victory, then what is ultimately the point ? Does he have an actual cohesive vision or is he just throwing a huge tantrum?

I'm going to be a little bit all over the place here I want you to think back to a movie you've seen in your life that you really didn't want to end because you were enjoying it so much now let's look at the four chaos gods. I believe to them the Galaxy is nothing more than a playpen. I even believe the Gods R constant throughout the possibility of alternate universes I believe they have always existed in a universe score timeline where they win. My assumption is that after they win there's nothing to do. So if they don't win oh, they get to continue playing the game. Therefore I don't think they will ever want to win. I believe they would much rather continue to be a nuisance on the Galaxy, and enjoy the heartache anguish and turmoil that they are capable of causing so that they can enjoy watching the reactions and the Fallout.

I dont think the chaos gods really care if abbadon destroys the emperor or vice versa. I think they only care to have a "unifier" in realspace aslong as chaos is the underdogs. If the forces of chaos gets to a dominant position in the galaxy as a whole ill bet the gods would withdraw their favour and with it the support of their followers. Have the mortals tear into eachother until whatever opposes them can regain the domminant position. The game MUST go on. If abbadon managed to claim the throne. To unify the mortals. To end the eternal war. Wouldnt that just make him the new bastion of order with which chaos is eternally compelled to contend? In their eyes abbadon is not a "destroyer" of the emperor. Hes a potential replacement. And his reign as warmaster would end if he bent a knee. The potential replacement needs to have that top level of defiance in him to fulfill the role.

I do not think the Four would allow him to win. As ADB mentioned, a win for Abaddon is ultimatly a loss for Chaos. Undivided individuals are harder to control for the Gods, and have their own agendas. Plus, Chaos is fighting amongst itself even more than against anything else. Such is its nature. By the end, Horus became a meatsack filled with chaotic energies, just a flesh puppet. Abaddon is not this. Sure, he may not be a Primarch, but he knows how Horus and the others (bar Perturabo I hope) ended up: as Slaves to Darkness. But he is too driven for that. He'd rather die than to bend the knee before anyone or anything. Sure, the Chaos Gods are manipulating Abaddon from behind the scenes, that is a certainty, yet Chaos would loose a greatt source of nourishment without the Imperium. The Imperium's failing drives people away from it into the arms of Chaos. It is a self-sustaining cycle, one that Tzeentch is all too aware of. That is why the Gods cannot allow Abaddon to get his win. He would create an empire based on martial prowess, ruled by the strongest humans, not by gods or worship. And that is a big no no for them.

I’d love to see Abaddon do what he did the End and the Death (*SPOILER*) and after that we know he has done through other lore… Where he begin to question and loses faith in Horus and begins to act deliberately in his own interests. See him say “Fuck chaos, I’m doing what I want” and become a true renegade faction distinct from both The Imperium and Chaos splinting chaos into civil war. You could match this with the Imperium going to war over the imperial cult and the astartes lead by Guilliman against the high lords lead by the Ecclesiarchy. Then you’d have the Eldar, Tau, make small gains and the Necron, Orks and Tyranids make large gains.

Technically the gods did most of the heavy lifting so horus their avatar losing meant they the tip of the siege lost.

Ok it is good that Abaddon knows that they don't want him as much as it it told they do. If he did I can just picture him finally making it to Terra a huge fleet ready to engage maybe he slips through in a gap and the Gods say to their dedicated/sworn followers 'Ok time to leave' so he looses at least a 3rd of his army. Ok can still work right? Wrong, how are the mortal followers going to take at seeing about half the Space Marines just leave. Any ship that isn't mainly Space Marine controlled is gone.

Abadon is Alpharius. He infiltrated the sons of Horus shortly after he delivered the final message to Horus before the siege of Terra. He refuses the "gifts" of Chaos lest he loses control of the final victory. "Abadon" beat Horus' clone in battle, has been detected as a 'clone' a number of times and this was the plan all along. Alpharius/Omegon the beginning and the end. He's been trained by the Emperor on Terra for just this task and he is the lynchpin of the emperor's plan. This is a lie.
