It blows my mind how you can commentate, remember lore, tell a story, etc. while playing at such a high level (chilly mixing in crazy reaper grenade micro). In the twenty seconds it takes my girlfriend to ask me a question and for me to respond while playing, all of a sudden I'm supply blocked, have 1k minerals banked up, forgot three things in my build, flew my medevac drop into a spore crawer, etc. etc... mad respect!

If you turn on "show XP" for unit kills in the options, you can see whether you get kills on units that just got into fog of war (or mass-recalled, in this episode). It also lets you see how many units were killed in medivacs and other transports based how how much XP pops up on screen.

Rise of nations!! Man I remember spending hours upon hours on that one. Me and my best bud were having a blast playing it, we also dug AoE II back in the day. Actually, AoE II was one of my introductions to the genre if not the first RTS I played regularly. Of course, there was SC, then SC2, C&C and Warcraft III. Lots of good memories with all these games. Anyways, golden ep today as well, impressive micro and multitasking!

A few RTS games I've never heard people talk about before: Armies of Exigo, Rising Kingdoms. These two games alongside with Wacraft 3 and Starcraft made my entire gradeschool and highschool a blast. Armies of Exigo had a nice vibe to it and great graphics for its time. Rising Kingdoms... The colony system makes it unique I guess? Although one of the factions there (Darkling iirc?) could've gotten some more love :D

DARK REIGN was a great RTS, came out around same time as SC1/Total Annihilation. It had really amazing AI controls. You could select a group of units and change 3 different sliders changing how aggressive they were/etc

the best Fantasy RTS i ever played was Warlords Battlecry 3. It is nigh unplayable now unless you have a potato to play it on, but it was an amazing game. you could level up your troops and some of them would join your retinue, and every one of the 17 races was unique. there were also 26 classes you could pick from . choice GALORE.

Regarding other RTS games, Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance (with the FAF community multiplayer client/mod) still has a quite active multiplayer community. You might want to check that out, since you haven't mentioned it. Warzone 2100 is also one of my favorite older RTS games, is freeware, still somewhat updated by the community, and supposedly has working multiplayer (I haven't tried it personally, I just enjoy it for singleplayer/skirmishes)

Yeah I realized I adore RTS - something about building and managing and conquering that I really enjoy. I haven't played Dune Spice Wars yet but Dune Deserts of Kharak is a true classic that I can recommend. Age of Empires 2 & 4 are good. Frostpunk was great for just getting lost solo but a little too scripted compared to SC's sandbox style - something most modern RTSs seem to have in common. Jurassic World was pretty fun in the same way Frostpunk was. Iron Harvest was ok but super super slow. Really looking forward to Homeworld 3 if it ever releases, and StormGate ofc. Wish there were more RTS of SC's caliber, but SC is still the beast king imo.

Here is a challenge idea I thought of. Start with being able to build two units, then in every match going forward you need to choose one unit to swap out and it goes on cooldown for one or two episodes before you can use it again. Also you can't use any unit for more than two matches in a row. Could be pretty chaotic. You could call it the bait and switch challenge or tag team to grandmaster.

I still want to see a challenge I think should be named "Valhalla" Thors and Vikings, its perfect. They can both attack ground and air units. And ofc, in a show honoring the Danes or Norse, drops would be allowed. Gotta raid people. So many options. Thor drops, Vikings flying in and landing. Just fast Thors or vikings, brute force. Mass Vikings and Thors. Think it would be pretty strong on their own. Its the perfect challenge.
