It’s weird that people are upset that once unique bending abilities becomes more common. That happens in all sort of arts. There are specialists who then teach others. Toph founded the Republic police and taught metal-bending. Not to mention, post-war the nations are more open to each other. It’s not as if only one year has passed. Aang’s youngest son is now in his 50s.

Right it’s like people are mad that zuko showed his people the true meaning of fire bending, like what was he supposed to do let his people keep fire bending out of pure anger?

I agree with your comment about bending and comparing it to Olympic sports is a great analogy. Before Toph, everyone believed that metal was different from earth. Perhaps some people tried to metalbend in the past, but since the earth content in metal was so low that it seemed impossible so it was established that it is impossible to bend metal. Then Toph comes along and proves that an earthbender can bend metal, she is clearly a prodigy to have discovered it herself. But once the information is out there, then other earthbenders would naturally want to try to see if they could do it. And it turns out that some of them could, that the teaching that metal was too different from earth was wrong, and the mental block telling them it was impossible was gone. Now we have metal benders. Same thing with other types of bending once seen as unique or elite. Katara never considered the idea that it was possible to bend the water in another person's body but once it was shown that it could be done, she was able to figure out how to do it under the right circumstances.

You were surprised that non-benders could fight benders remember that Sokka, Suki, Tye Lee and Mai were all non-benders and fought benders equally. Zuko even had a few fights as the Blue Spirit or against Jet where he did not use bending but was able to fight equally.

I like your take about the sub-bending abilities becoming more used by the rest of benders, completely agree. Everything evolves, it's just how life works.

In regards to special abilities becoming commonplace - real world history backs this kind of thing up ... many things did not exist until the first person does it, and after that, lots of people know how. And now you are talking about the Olympics which is a good example of the same thing.

Yup! Since I am a loose fan of figure skating, I saw a little video once on how the first time someone rotated in the air twice it was an amazing feat and seemed impossible at the time and now they are doing it four times. People have not physically changed and gotten stronger or faster bodies, but the knowledge has been built up over generations. I think I mentioned that in the video too, but yeah.

One thing that I really like about Korra is that there aren't really any "stormtroopers," bad guys that only exist to get deleted in seconds. In ATLA, unless you were a main villain, you were never really much of a threat. But in Korra, even lowly foot soldiers pose a threat to our heroes. Just a couple of henchmen sent to get some gang members were able to get the upper hand.
@lyrebirb838 ай бұрын
Early Korra, it's basically whoever strikes first wins. Because no one is used to fighting anyone else. You'll notice fights get longer as both sides learn to adapt better.

The technology change kind of throws some people. But if you look at our Industrial Revolution, we actually did go from a technology much like in Avatar The Last Airbender to what we're seeing here in Korra. And it happened in a matter of decades. Boom skyscrapers, planes, cars, etc.

Amon sure knows how to leave a heck of an impression.... On that note, it shouldn't be so odd to see strong nonbenders since we've already had a few prominent ones in the first series (Suki, Ty Lee, Mai, etc.). These guys are essentially the evolution of those characters, in a sense.

I really like how open you approach such series and films. Personally, I haven't been as curious about the new series yet. So far I've only watched your reaction videos. Yes, I know, but they were also the ones who made me watch "Avatar - The Last Airbender. (By the way, in Germany the series is called "Avatar - Der Herr der Elemente [The Lord of the Elements]")

I know other people have said it better than me about the unique abilities thing but I like this example: in the 90s all you needed to know to be a sponsored skater was basically just a kick flip. Nowadays a kick flip is pretty much nothing. The skill ceiling is always being pushed to the limit

In the real world, reading and writing used to be something that only the elites could do... Like how the Fire Nation royal family was the exclusive users of lightning.... Today, complete amateurs, with zero training can create films with decent visual effects... That's progress...

The turtle did NOT give aang the ability. She just taught him how to do it. She even told him that before element bending everyone possessed energy bending . So, at this point in the show, it is very possible for Amon to have learned the ability
@joegoodman82138 ай бұрын
The lion turtle gave Aang that ability when he touched Aang's body. It involves spoilers, so I can't elaborate. That's also a misquote. He said in the age before the avatar, it was energy being bent rather than elements. That's all. He gave no indication that everyone possessed that ability. The only explanation at this point as to how Amon can take away bending is if the same thing that happened to Aang also happened to him.
