Jesus, dude, your dedication and perseverance never ceases to amaze me. 80 minutes of cutting for all of us out here in Knifeland. By the way, that exacerbated 'fuck' would have come out of me way faster, and repeatedly, lol. That number was much higher than I thought it would have been. Maxamet is a name I will be watching out for now when checking out certain knives to buy.

Thanks for putting in the hard work to get us this data! I have a Native in Maxamet. I haven't worked it nearly as hard as you do, but I'm amazed at how much longer it holds an edge than a SAK blade. (I prefer SAKs, but they flat out REFUSE to put a decent blade steel in them)

So I got the same Native 5 the other day. It was lightly used but still had the factory edge. It would cut paper cleanly, but not shave very well. I put it on my KME last night to get it to where all my other knives are. Unfortunately, I had to reprofile it because it had 2 different angles. One was near 17 degrees, so I used the 100 grit diamond stone to get both sides to 17. It was a pretty rough edge like usual when I use that stone. I then went through my normal progression of 140, 300, 600, then stropped on 4, 1, and 0.5 micron CBN. I noticed after the 140 stone that the edge was still pretty ragged, so I looked through a magnifying glass, and the edge had several places that looked like small ragged chips. These stayed and I could not get rid of them as I progressed through the other stones. The edge I am left with just tears paper. It's almost like using a serrated blade. I know this has happened to other people as well. This is the first time sharpening Maxamet, so it's new to me. It looks like I might have used too rough of a stone and applied a little bit too much pressure. Do you have any tips on how to clean the edge up and fix what I did?

I got 810 cuts with that knife. A few different variables: different brand rope (3/8" sisal), different board, cutting style, and I was new to those stones. After more time with those stones Pete likely got a sharper knife. I'll test it again and see how it does. 4:13 is hysterical. I had the same "when will it end?" moment when I was testing this knife.
@darichard11
@darichard11 5 жыл бұрын
I read some Cliff Stamp's comments on testing. For us to get withing 20% of each other consistently would be good given all the variables. I think this validates Pete's process. Only one data point. I'll do a few more and see how they align.

I very much want to see a 20° included with a 30° included micro-bevel only for a few thousandths of an inch of the edge. I'm talking enough to barely see with the naked eye. I think it will have the ease of cut of a 20° bevel and the stability of the steeper grind. It might beat the current top score.

More of a coffee drinker myself, but I'd be down to try some tea. Anyway, didn't see a website anywhere. So where can I get some of that Sheepdog tea? Tried Amazon to no avail. I did happed to find Sheepdogdrinks.com but I don't think it's the same product. At any rate, Sheepdog tea seems like a product I would purchase. Would absolutely consider adding it to my EDC chest rig in case a demanding tactical situation arises. Granted, I'd have to make room for a tactical tea kettle as well but I'm all for changing up my loadout if it improves my lethality. Could probably swap out one of my Cold Steel XL Espadas to save space. Time will tell I suppose. Also been looking into a MOLLE compatible sugar cube pouch, so that'll be a definite buy. Anyway, somebody hit me up with the details. Thanks.

spider Outdoors only other downside is it’s not stainless, it doesn’t instantly rust like carbon iron steels, it will start to patina over time when not cleaned or oiled and eventually will start having little rust spots, but most people actually like it when their maxamet patinas over time.
