For those using Ableton: Add a Return-track; Click the little "post" next to the Solo button of the return to turn it into a pre-fader return; For your sidechaining compressor: use either the Ableton-compressor for everything pre-Ableton 10. In Ableton 10 you can use the Sidechain-section to the left of the X/Y pad of your plugin.

@kev9720
@kev9720 2 жыл бұрын
Fl fucks up sidechaining a lot, my advice is to use fruity peak limiter and trigger any knob (EQ or Compressor) by moving it and then clicking "Tools"->"Last tweaked"->"link to controller". I sidechain with this technique quite often because the real sidechaining often creates phase issues.

Amazing! Although, can someone explain the logic behind.. Assigning [Track "A"] to "Pre-Fader" & Sending it to a "Bus" with "No-Output"? The end result makes sense to me, but how can we still hear the "Bus" with the Reverb and Compressor on it if that "Bus" is set to have no output?

How about explaining to people who may not know, WHY you are side-chaining these in the first place. It's kinda important.
@matt.jones_dj
@matt.jones_dj 4 жыл бұрын
You sidechain things like the reverb of a lead so you can hear the dry signal of the lead clearer when it's played. When the dry signal of the lead finishes, the reverb on the bus will stop being compressed leaving the reverb tail to carry on at its normal level. This creates a much cleaner sound overall and allows a lot of reverb to be used without it drowning the mix. This is also used on vocals a lot. If you listen to any commercial track on the radio you will be able to hear this effect. It allows the dry signal to be heard much clearer which is how it's supposed to be heard. Listen to 'Dua Lipa - Don't Start Now' and you will be able to hear the reverb and delays side-chained to her voice at the beginning of the track. Hope this helped :)

Here’s a thought ... What about sidechaining the reverb Aux before the reverb. So your reverb isn’t being slammed but instead a more natural reverb is formed because the dry signal is already being sidechained

Hey, Nice tip and nice sounding track. I don't understand why you turn the 'bus' output to off. It's just an Aux track that's automatically created whenever you assign a new 'bus'. You can just delete it in your mixer window as it doesn't serve any function other than to add more visible tracks in your mix window and more total tracks to your session. Make sense or am I missing something?

BTW I am pretty sure you don't have to set up a send in Logic to sidechain to a compressor. The sidechain menu should have the name of the channel in there already without doing an extra send.
@Usenabt
@Usenabt 4 жыл бұрын
I think it has to do with 'No Output' & Pre-fader on the bus and being able to control the signal levels being pushed to the sidechain compressor without making the original track louder quieter.
@catalystdrums123
@catalystdrums123 4 жыл бұрын
@@Usenabt More control is not a bad thing, I hadn't thought of it like that, but wouldn't adjusting the threshold of the compressor have the same effect as changing the output level of the key input?

What's the difference in using this method and using pre-delay on your reverb?
@uwmsc
@uwmsc 4 жыл бұрын
2 reasons... First, in the case of the synth melody, every note may not be the same length so you'd need varying pre-delay times and second, in the case of the kick,the tail of the reverb won't be lowered in volume when the next kick hits. It will, however, be turned down with the sidechain.
