Well he just got his own studio, and he felt he was too restrained with NC, he wanted to take full advantage of the studio and all, and since NC was just him with a white wall, it wouldn't work. But after Demo Reel bombed and he had to face that he needed the NC again, he found a workarround by making the reviews more complex and making more skits to take advantage of the studio. I think its undestandable, he wanted to grow up and was misguided for a sec there, but he eventually found a better way while keeping his signature character.

But Demo Reel _has_ taken over NC. How many minutes did skits use to take up vs now? That's Doug trying to break out of NC and back into DR. He has to at least attempt at keeping it NC, at least at face value, otherwise he'd lose even more viewers, but he wants DR so badly it's almost palpable.

i just gotta give Doug a ton of props for how he's handled the reaction to demo reel. It was a project he was really excited for and it can't be easy to get such a negative reaction on something you love so much, but through it all he's managed to keep a good sense of humor about it. I've been an NC fan for almost a decade, and while there have been ups and downs with the sites, the content, and creators, Doug has really grown as an entertainer and as, i feel at least, a person. Sure i can say "give us the old NC!! We want the old style!!!!" and maybe he'll sprinkle in that style every once in a while. But even if he doesn't, i can fully appreciate what he's created for a decade now. He has given up countless hours of his life to bring us entertainment, and if that means sacrificing some formats in order for him to remain happy while doing it, then i say God bless him, the man works hard. I appreciate the hell out of you Doug, thanks for the years of laughs!

Oh, man. I first discovered the NC the week he cancelled the show. I remember binging through all of his stuff in those six months, an after school tradition. And I still remember how damned excited I was when The Review Must Go On came out. I don't watch NC quite as much as I used to, but he will always have a special place in my heart. Angelo Desanto patreon is more for small artists who can't make it off of KZbin revenue alone, Dougs got a bigger audience and his own site, and seems to be able to survive without it.
