When I was in middle school I had this fantasy about being able to control time, and the things I would do if I could. I took it as far as establishing the method by which I would control said powers if they were real: a convenient, inconspicuous wrist watch. No more than a couple weeks later, I saw a trailer for Clockstoppers for the first time. My mind was absolutely blown...it was a very jarring experience seeing a fantasy I'd only recently conjured up being fleshed out into a full movie.

Everytime I saw a movie like this as a kid, I'd spend my entire free time(until the next similar movie came across my path) thinking how perfect my life would be if I could just figure out how to make a watch that stops time/get a laser that cuts through metal/any other device used in a similar movie. I remember the rocket boosters in "Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 battle" getting stuck in my head for the longest time too. I was dead fucking convinced if I could just collect enough fire extinguishers, I could strap one to my feet, kick the top piece off, and go zooming around or fly wherever I wanted and use them like a bullet to do anything my imagination thought up. Those rocket things really got rooted deep into my brain for the longest time for some reason..... The biggest thing I was convinced was that if the device wasn't the main attraction in a movie(example: Any James bond device that WASN'T attached to the Aston Martin, and only had a brief appearance) it was probably real life thing I could get my hands on. My Mind basically said "yeah, a car that turns invisible and shoots bullets is obviously fake, which is why the movie leans so heavily on it, but maybe there really is a Rolex that can cut through prison bars, and if everyone else is distracted by the obviously fake car MAYBE I CAN ACTUALLY GET THAT WATCH AND ROB A BANK AND BECOME A BILLIONAIRE!!!!" I know someone with an accent that heavy, but with perfect grammar (or at least on par with average native English speakers). She lived in Peru for the first 18 years of her life, and then moved to America for the next 20-ish years (I'm not sure of her exact age). Her mother also lives with her for 6 months out of the year, which helps keep her Peruvian accent strong.
@bobbatcher60217 жыл бұрын
To be honest, you're right, my friend is the exception, not the rule. Most latinx (or non-native speakers from anywhere) I've met have either a heavy accent and imperfect grammar, or a light to no accent and good grammar. With a name like María Fernanda, I'm guessing you also notice it more than me as a gringo. What really gets me in this movie is the accent widely swinging from thick to almost non-existent.

ajmrowland thing is, the old jokes are still funny. It's when they're overused and brought up when not needed is when they overstay their welcome. when Doug did the back in time sketch, he seems very cynical of his old jokes. I admit, a lot of them got overused, but if they weren't funny in to begin with, he wouldn't be where he is today. as long as they're appropriate for the moment, I don't see any reason why he can't use some of these old jokes that are still funny. hell, linkara did the "take over the world 'of course' " joke and I laughed. From both nostalgic and genuine comedy

6:30 Michael Biehn can play an equally good hero or villain. He can also do physical comedy, but he was never given that opportunity very often because he always got typecast as a military or police "tough guy" character (occasionally a lawyer or something, but almost always some sort of professional). But even when he plays a villain, he plays a believably human villain. His personal favorite character of all he's played is Kyle Reese. I know that because I'm a Michael Biehn fantard (seriously, he's totally my Burt Reynolds). 6:40 "Biehn" is pronounced the same as "Bean." It's an Irish name even though it looks German. Interestingly, "Reese" is also an Irish name (more specifically, the Irish version of the Welsh name "Rhys"), so it makes sense that they incorporated that into Kyle Reese's backstory. His mother was Irish. 9:41 Don't you mean, "Oh YES, we got put in a John Woo movie?" 17:16 Let's take a moment to appreciate the irony of Kyle Reese getting T-1000'd.

According to Einstein's Theory of Relativity wouldn't going that fast actually make you younger then everyone else.
@juhaniaho66987 жыл бұрын
James Elphingstone I guess that is the first of many violations to the laws of space, time and basic thermodynamics in this movie. I should also point out that if you move so fast, that everything else around you seems completely frozen, you should AVOID ANY AND ALL PHYSICAL CONTACT WITH YOUR SURROUNDINGS. Seriously, if you just tap a wall with your finger in hypertime, you would still break your entire arm and most of your ribcage. Furthermore, liquid nitrogen would be a key ingredient when building a FREEZE RAY, NOT A TIMESTOP RAY. Since nitrogen temperature in liquid form is very close to subzero, it would stop any movement at any molecular level, preventing aging. That's also how cryochambers work.
@jameselphingstone78177 жыл бұрын
Juhani Aho LoL
@Wright8056 жыл бұрын
+James Elphingstone Not exactly. See the whole "moving at light speed makes you age slower" is based on the assumption that the person travelling at near-light speed is accelerating away from Earth. Say you were on a spaceship moving that fast. To you time would appear to be moving normally. Now say back on Earth I look at a monitor showing what's happening on your ship. To me it would look as if time on your ship was moving slower. That's because we're in different reference frames. When Zack goes into hyper-time he's not on a spaceship accelerating away from Earth, he's still on Earth. His reference frame is the same as everyone else.
@phreakazoith22376 жыл бұрын
Juhani Aho That's the point aint it? it's pretty dangerous to operate in hyper time mode. And the clock is more or less pointless for spying purpose either. You cannot even infiltrate a normal facility let's say an office building There are elevators. You cannot use them cause they are frozen. There are doors opening on contact or by using keycards or codes. They wont open. You can't view or download data.
@phreakazoith22376 жыл бұрын
aint it more easy to invent a device that makes you faster than one making everything else slower? Accelerating the clockbearer? okay - slowing down or even stopping the universe? nah!! from the clockbeares perspective it does not make a difference I agree. longterm effects might be another issue.

To be fair, late 90s and early 2000s gave us Pierce Brosnan as James Bond AND the start of Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible. Plus, despite being heist movies, the Ocean Trilogy does have a sort of spy thriller-esque quality to it. With all this, it’s honestly no surprise that spy movies, whether good or bad, were the big trend at this time.

@ezydenias85057 жыл бұрын
thirteenfury you mean Eurovision song contest? Which actually wasn't much about pop music first and today is more like for cheap music. I only know they wanted to send xevia nei doo once but because he said something about being a citizen of the German Reich (probably the Kaisers one)nwe didn't send him but I hope so because he is terrible and annoying. So if TRL is worse. Fuck that. But Eurovision from the 90s? No clue. I Don't remember such things from the 90s mostly radio and tapes and cheap plastic shit that we threw away. Well except the mobile phones. Those still works. Even have an old Motorola from 92? My first car was from 92 too. And I was born in 92. Some of my stuff was Born with me. My poor mother had to birth a whole car. Xd
@thirteenfury7 жыл бұрын
Ezydenias Yes, that's the one. I know the Eurovision song contest is cheesy as hell but at least it has some good musicians occasionally. TRL was like giving an annoying 90s radio DJ a tv show and an audience of screaming teen girls while playing a minute or less of the current popular rock and pop songs. For hours at a time, every day of the week. As much as MTV sucks now, at least you were young enough to miss out on one of the most irritating parts of MTV in the 90s and early 00s.
